Summer Zine

A Summer State Of Mind
Welcome to Summer 2025/26 - a season full of exciting trends, fresh new colours, textures and natural fabrications. We’re so excited to showcase some of our upcoming collections and projects for SS25/26. For us, summer is all about taking the time to seek out new sources of inspiration and explore new places to recentre ourselves and inform the year ahead.
This zine captures the nostalgic charm of a classic magazine; the kind you’d pick up before a flight and linger over poolside. May these pages inspire you to find your own sense of summer escape.

Time Capsule: Ghosts of
1918
Glassons began in Christchurch, New Zealand, founded by brothers Charles and John Glasson. The open warehouse offered everything from womenswear to men’s and even children’s clothing. The brand was famous for its made-to-measure suits and coats crafted to fit perfectly.

1930’s
Through the Depression years, Glassons stood out for offering high quality garments at accessible prices, a value that continues to define the brand today.
1950’s
The first official Glassons store opened on Lichfield Street, marking the start of its retail story. What began as a warehouse evolved into a trusted destination for women’s fashion, with stores soon opening across the South Island of New Zealand.

1960’s
A new chapter began when the brand turned its full focus to womenswear. Leadership passed from Jack Glasson to his son Tim, continuing the family legacy and ushering in a modern era for the brand.

Glassons Past
Step back in time as we reminisce on Glassons’ 107 year history. From humble roots in Christchurch, New Zealand to a leading Transtasman Brand.
1980’s
Glassons merged with Hallensteins, forming Hallenstein Glasson Holdings — a partnership that sparked fresh momentum and set the foundation for national growth, whilst continuing to operate independently.

1990’s
A decade of expansion and modernisation. With new stores and contemporary ranges, Glassons became synonymous with accessible, high-quality fashion across New Zealand. In 1998, Glassons crossed the Tasman, opening its first Australian store at Melbourne’s Highpoint Shopping Centre, the start of an exciting bi-national chapter that continues to grow today.
Today
More than a century on, Glassons remains a proud family-led womenswear brand, with the family involved across all senior roles of the business to this day. Now, with 70 stores across Australia and New Zealand and a growing global online community, the brand continues to evolve while staying true to its heritage.

Responsible Linen
Since 2017, Glassons has been committed to its sustainability journey. Explore this summers’ collection of 100% linen styles, made with certified European Flax.
Glassons have always made with care, from the opening of our first store 107 years ago. Back then the focus was on making good quality garments in good working conditions, for fair wages. Now, Made with Care is our pledge to bring affordable fashion to our customers as ethically and sustainably as we possibly can - it applies to the life cycle of every fashion garment; from the fabrics we use, how it’s made and supplied, how we package it, upcycle it, and how we can minimise waste at the end of its life. Part of this journey is adopting the use of sustainably sourced, 100% European Flax™ linen.
European Flax™ is the guarantee of traceability for premium flax fibre grown in Western Europe, a 100% vegetable and vegan fibre produced in compliance with the rules of the International Labour Office. It meets a set of criteria that ensures no irrigation, no GMO seeds, a local rotational crop, low use of fertilisers and pesticides, natural dew retting in the field, 100% mechanical fibre production, and that this is a zero waste fibre (all parts of the plant are used).
*Information from Alliance for European Flax-Linen & Hemp
Ensuring that our Linen is responsibly sourced is just one step in a wider journey of improving our footprint as a business. There’s always more we can do and wherever possible, we’ll continue to improve sustainability and visibility in all areas of our operation, so our stakeholders and our customers can see what we’ve done, how we’ve improved and what we have planned to minimise Glassons environmental impact on the planet and be a force for good.
“Our pledge is to provide affordable fashion as ethically as we can.”
To care for your linen, hand wash in cold or lukewarm water and lay flat to dry. Part of becoming more sustainable and responsible for the planet is learning to care for and mend our garments correctly to prolong the lifespan. Linen will pill from time to time. This can be resolved with a small cashmere comb or eyebrow razor.

Summer Skin

We sit down with friend of the brand and makeup artist Jo My God to talk all things summer, skin, and how to achieve that perfect glow.
Q: What’s your #1 rule for glowing summer skin?
A: Hydration! Drink plenty of water and always reapply sunscreen. Skin hack: Naked Sundays does a glowy sunscreen spray for when you are on the go and need a top up!
Q: Tell us about your “no makeup” makeup routine.
A: Bronzing drops mixed with sunscreen, blush for cheeks and lips, brow gel and a lip balm. My go to lip balm right now is the Prada Lip Care, it’s PH reactive so adds a soft sheer pink for lips and cheeks.
Q: What’s your favourite face sunscreen?
A: Mecca’s ‘To Save Face’ Sunscreen is my most trusted.
Q: How do you refresh your skin after a long beach day?
A: Caudalie Beauty Elixir is the most refreshing spritz of heaven. Brings your skin back to life in an instant.
Q: What’s one skincare product you can’t live without in summer?
A: I absolutely can’t get enough of the La Mer Renewal Oil at the moment. It’s lightweight but delves so deep into your skin and adds so much smoothness. Perfect for a hot summer afternoon glow! Another alternative for this is the Emma Lewisham Supernatural Face Oil.

By Jem Lester Summer Salad:
There’s nothing like entertaining in the summer; daylight savings, sitting alfresco, and laughing until the mozzies make you move inside. When the days get long and hot, the last thing you want to do is spend hours slaving over the stovetop. A fresh, simple salad is the perfect antidote, and serves up perfectly both on it’s own and as a side.
“This salad could not be more simple, it comes together so quickly & is perfect for summer hosting, lunch or dinner and meal prep.”
- JEM LESTER, PRIVATE CHEF

Tipped

Kai, Photographer
Q: How did you begin your journey into photography?
A: I first got into photography after being inspired by editorial magazines like i-D, Dazed, and Vogue. I started out posting creative content on Tumblr and Instagram during the early days of social media, mostly taking photos and videos of my friends and family.
Q: Dream person to shoot?

A: Would love to shoot an album cover/music video for The Strokes or The 1975
Q: What’s your go-to snack on set?
A: Red Rock Deli Chips and chocolate.
Q: Give us your top tip for getting the perfect shot.
A: Good music and good vibes
Staff Spotlight Behind the Seams:
Get to know the faces behind the brand, what they’re loving, and where their summer inspiration comes from.
Maria, Designer
Q: Where do you draw your inspiration from?
A: We follow European influencers and fashion weeks really closely - not just the runway shows but the street style too. That’s where you can spot early trends before they blow up. We do a lot of vintage shopping on our buying trips, where we find the most unique and original shapes to rework. My favourite cities for vintage finds are London and Paris - and not just for the stores. The overall vibe and how people dress there are amazing; they’re constant sources of street style inspiration.
Q: Tell us about the top trends and colours for summer...
A: This summers’ trends feel so fresh and exciting - we honestly can’t wait for them to hit stores. The boho influence is everywhere, especially after the Chloe by Chemena and Isabel Marant shows, so expect to see more commercial takes on this aesthetic throughout

the season. Ponchos are definitely the musthave fun item, along with the balloon pant. Utility details are also a huge focus and will continue through the season. When it comes to colour, blue will be the standout - especially in fresh aqua tones. We’re also really excited to see purple come through as an emerging shade.
Q: What is your must have accessory or styling piece for Summer?
A: Bangles, fun belts, and statement jewellery - more is more, in my opinion, especially when it comes to summer styling.
Q: Go-to cocktail order?
A: My classic go-to is an Aperol Spritz (boring), but for a date night, I usually go for an Amaretto Sour or an Americano.

Atoc, Office Manager

Q: What’s the best career advice you have received?
A: Never say no to a new opportunity - you never know what doors it may open.
Q: Describe your perfect coffee order.
A: Strong Almond Cap! Nice and bitter because I’m already sweet...
Q: Give us some tips for landing your dream role...
A: There might not be one straight path to landing your dream role, and you may have a few detours along the way. If you work hard and apply yourself diligently to everything you do you’ll reach new heights never imagined!
Q: Dream holiday destination?
A: Lake Como or Positano

Something in the Hair
We sit down with Glassons Accessories Buyer, Katie-Lea, to discuss all things summer accessorising. This season it’s all about headwear.
There’s something so exciting about the resurgence of boho after the last few years of minimalism, quiet luxury and monochrome rule. The spirit of the modern nomad is back - effortless, undone, and full of texture. Rife with layering and adornment; the Chloe-effect is in full force. Messy, slept in hair is back, and accessories buyer KatieLea couldn’t be happier.
“Boho resin accessories & pendant necklaces are the ‘it’ pieces for the season.”
This summer it’s all about resin and tort detailing. Creative ways to pull your hair back without a slick back are trending, and gladly welcomed. French pins and claw clips are having their moment for that undone ‘je ne sais quoi’ of just throwing your hair up without a care.
“Scarves are the styling chameleons of the summer” says Katie. Tie them as a belt, headscarf or top, or weave them through your accessories - these are the it-piece that take any look from simple to standout. Crochet bonnets and caps add an unexpected textural element to both your outfit and hairstyle.
Wear It Your Way: Bandana Style
This is the perfect way to tie your scarf for a day spent out on the water. Whether you’re stepping onto a boat and need to protect your hair from the wind, or styling as a chic hat substitute, this is the ultimate cool girl scarf style.
Under The Hair
For a more girly and sweet style, tie your scarf underneath your hair. Retro nostalgia reigns here, with crochet and woven scarves adding the perfect amount of eccentric flair.
