Maleny to feature on MasterChef

by Lea Parkes

MasterChef Australia earlier this year filmed in Queensland for the first time, providing an opportunity to promote the state’s unique local produce and world-class restaurants.

The state government provided support to bring the cast and crew to Queensland through Tourism and Events Queensland.

As part of Queensland Week, on Tuesday, June 4 the top-rating show featured our stunning hinterland.

The unique, authentically rustic wedding venue The Old Dairy Maleny on the Landsborough-Maleny Road, with its panoramic views of the glorious Glass House Mountains and spectacular sunsets, hosted Masterchef.

It must have been an exciting opportunity for the venue to showcase both the best in local produce and the area’s stunning natural beauty. The show kicked off the week in Brisbane before travelling to Maleny for an immunity challenge.

Tourism Industry Development Minister Kate Jones said hosting MasterChef in Queensland would generate great exposure for the state’s tourism sector.

“Millions of people around Australia tune in to MasterChef each week. By hosting MasterChef in Queensland, prospective tourists will have beautiful images of our state beamed into their living rooms,” she said.

Maleny Commerce president Nicole Hilton said it was wonderful for our local area to be a part of the production and, with Maleny known for its many award-winning dairy products and wedding venues, it seemed like a perfect marriage of what the area was recognised for.

If you are reading this before the show goes to air on June 4 make sure you tune in at 7.30pm to see the contestants cooking up a storm in the kitchens at The Old Dairy.
