Plans unveiled for $4m Beerwah intersection upgrade

Beerwah locals have been given their first look at plans for the Queensland Government’s $4 million upgrade of the Peachester Road and Old Gympie Road intersection.

The project will include a new signalised intersection, additional turning lanes, safer pedestrian connections and dedicated bicycle lanes.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said the upgrade would increase capacity and make the road safer for Beerwah State School families and the 7,800 motorists who used the intersection each day.

“We committed to upgrading this road, and we’re delivering,” Mr Bailey said.

Detailed design is now under way, with the upgrade to also include 1.5km of resurfacing along Peachester Road from Old Gympie Road through to the Blackbutt Street.

“This is a busy stretch of road also used by heavy vehicles accessing commercial areas on Old Gympie Road,” Mr Bailey said.

The road widening and additional turning lanes will accommodate heavy vehicle movements, making it easier for heavy vehicles drivers to navigate the intersection.

Construction is expected to start in early 2020, weather and construction schedule permitting.

Mr Bailey said key stakeholders would be engaged soon to seek feedback on the design for the project.
