From the churches There is one thing that I quickly learnt about myself when I was teaching my children to drive a car. I like to feel in control and having a learner in the driver’s seat takes away my sense of safety. At least one time with each child we had a circumstance where I thought I had explained very clearly what they needed to do, only to have my words misinterpreted and the car hurtling in a direction that it shouldn’t have been going. On at least one occasion it was because the child had decided to anticipate my instructions. Over the past couple of months God has been teaching me a lot about surrendering – surrendering my control. Too often, like my children, I can anticipate God’s instructions and dart ahead or misinterpret them and turn completely the wrong way. Psalm 37:7 says, “Be still in the presence of the Lord and wait patiently for him to act” (NLT) or, in the God’s Word Translation, “Surrender yourself to the Lord and wait patiently for him.” Surrender in this sense means following God’s lead without knowing where you are going. Waiting for God’s timing without knowing how long you have to wait and trusting God’s purpose without seeing the big picture. It means instead of trying harder that I need to trust more. The Bible is full of examples where people

Auditions for Twelve Angry Men – and women

The Maleny Players will be holding auditions for their upcoming production of ‘Twelve Angry Men’ this Saturday, June 16, from 9am to 11am at the Maleny Playhouse. This powerful classic play which will be performed over the weekend of August 10-12, was written in 1954 but its relevance is just as poignant today. A 19-year-old man has just stood trial for the fatal stabbing of his father. "He doesn't stand a chance," mutters the guard as the 12 jurors are taken into the bleak jury room. It looks like an open-and-shut case – until one of the jurors begins opening the others' eyes to the facts. Whilst this was originally an all-male cast, female roles will also be sought. The Maleny Playhouse is at the Maleny Showgrounds, Maleny Stanley River Road. For further information please contact Rob Hobson on 0418 785 967. CONDITIONS: To ensure all community notices can be printed each month please keep your contributions to a maximum of 100 words.

surrendered to God. Abraham surrendered when he decided to follow God with no idea where He was going to lead. David surrendered when he decided to wait for God’s timing for him to become king rather than take it into his own hands and kill King Saul. Jesus surrendered in the Garden of Gethsemane when he decided to do things God’s way and give up his life as a sin offering for mankind. Surrender is not always easy. The more dearly that we hold something the harder that it is to surrender control of. And yet this verse reminds us that we can be still as we surrender. That it is okay. God’s got this! God’s got you! You can stop worrying and surrender.
