An easy anniversary for CDW A year on since launching its EasySecure door, CDW Systems has reported above expectation first year sales for the product. It has also been installed as part of some impressive projects and CDW Systems’ Managing Director Jerry Webb is delighted with the impact the product has had: “As a matter of course we look to launch a new product or initiative every year and for 2012 this was the EasySecure door; and it’s gone down a storm with our customers and has boosted sales which is great.”

A former Ministry of Defence housing estate has been transformed from boarded up shells to desirable private housing with the aid of Eclipse PVCu doors and windows from Window Warehouse, the Portsmouthbased Halo fabricator and installer. The Rowner Estate in Portsmouth, built by the Ministry for naval personnel and their families during the 1960s, is now owned by Annington Homes. When the homes were deemed surplus to requirements by the MoD and handed back to Annington, they decided to refurbish the 85 homes and sell them on the open market.

EasySecure is an evolution of one of CDW’s best-selling products, the SAPA Stormframe Easyway door and is ideal for the new-build, refurbishment; residential, education and light commercial market. As Managing Director Jerry Webb explains, the EasySecure door boasts a number of unique features and benefits: “Any hardware can be fitted to EasySecure- including Dorma, Axim and Adams Rite- offering extended customer choice and improving security credentials, while a co-extruded bead makes the glass more secure within the door leaf. “Another exciting development was the new one-piece anti-finger trap stile designed to suit all types of exit devices without the need for a mid-rail. There is also dual weathering all the way around the perimeter of the door which minimises air and water infiltration and ensures the product performs better for longer. It is also a multi-functional product. It can be used for automatic doors, DDA compliant doors, doors into curtain walling; and it complements our product range of thermally broken commercial doors, framing and curtain walling.”

One EasySecure project of note was a brand new office block in-front of a Garbuio Dickinson factory in Winchester. Garbuio Dickinson is a world leader in the design and manufacture of Tobacco Processing Machinery. The EasySecure door now acts as the staff main entrance door in the office block. “Much thought and design time went into manufacturing and modifying EasySecure, together with SAPA, so we anticipated it would be well-received and we’re delighted it has made such an impact and given our trade customers a standout, high-quality product that can help them win lucrative contracts,” Jerry concludes. Edgetech helps spread joy at Easter While most of us took the opportunity on Easter Sunday to indulge in some rest, relaxation and, of course, chocolate binges, Mel Jones, Territory Sales Manager South West at Warm edge technology manufacturer Edgetech was busy taking part in the 10th Annual Easter Ride Out. The event, organised by the Taw and Torridge Classic Bike Club, saw members set off in convoy around the South-west. The proviso to participating was that riders had to bring an Easter egg or two that they could distribute along the way to deserving children at locations such as Northam Lodge and Chelfam Mill Schools, Fremington Children’s Hospice and North Devon District Hospital. Mel’s employer Edgetech, a Quanex company, takes its corporate social responsibility very seriously, and so was delighted to match the riders’ generosity by providing more than 100 Easter eggs to distribute.

Mel comments: “The Annual Easter Ride Out is always a fantastic event and it’s great to see the kids’ faces when the bikes turn up. I’m proud that Edgetech has once again been able to provide so many Easter eggs for us to give out.” For more information on Edgetech’s range of Warm Edge Technology, call 08700 566844 or visit www.edgetechig.co.uk.

“We chose the Eclipse range not only because it met our energy and security standards but was also aesthetically attractive, with slim sightlines and the option of a grey foil finish, which we specified for the doors and windows at the front,” said Angela Walsh of Annington Homes. Window Warehouse, the fabricator and installer, redesigned the windows to the three and four bedroom houses and two bedroom maisonettes so they were wider and fitted them with specialist fire escape hinges. Halo – the UK’s leading manufacturer of energy efficient doors, windows and fenestration packages and a company of the VEKA UK Group – offers a wide range of coloured foil options that can be applied to virtually any fenestration design in the range and, in this case, supplied Finesse “sand effect” grey foils which have a slightly textured finish, with great tactile appeal and which reflects light and shade in a very attractive way. This was one of the foils available to order on an ‘Xpress’ level of service for fast track turnaround so Window Warehouse was able to call off the materials as they were needed. Other options – including nine within the Xpress collection – range from an attractive suite of woodgrain effect finishes to strong contemporary and traditional colours such as blue, red and green.

It is possible to produce A rated WER windows using the Eclipse profile with just double glazing if constructed using Halo’s unique thermal profile insert. A chamfered edge system, Eclipse has a high level of interchangeability with Eclipse esthétique – its sculpted sister profile – so that a huge range of styles, performance benefits and sales options can be sourced from a single systems supplier. There is also a wide choice of finishes across the Eclipse range, including white, rosewood, oak and rosewood-on-white and oak-on-white which, combined with the ancillary profiles and beads, means that doors and windows can be personalised to suit individual tastes. The decision to refurbish and sell the homes was clearly the right one – so successful was the scheme that they all sold within weeks of handover. Tel: 01282 716611 – www.halo-uk.com

Manufactured with three or four fully enclosed chambers for strength and thermal performance, Eclipse’s 70mm profile matches most timber sections found in UK homes, and installations can be completed with minimal ‘making good’ after the removal of timber frames, or old PVCu or aluminium windows. Eclipse doors and windows meet the highest standards of security including PAS 23 and 24 and Secured by Design, the crime prevention initiative developed in the UK by ACPO CPI (Association Chief Police Officers, Crime Prevention Initiatives).
