Stop abuse of Driver Certification
Stop abuse of Driver Certification Program: TTSAO
The Truck Training Association of Ontario (TTSAO) has called on the provincial government to take immediate measures to stop the abuse of the Driver Certification Program (DCP).
In December, Ontario’s auditor general said in a report that the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) was allowing some partners of the DCP with a poor history of collisions to test their own employees for commercial driver licences.
The TTSAO also noted that community colleges in the program were testing their own students who are not going to be employees of those colleges.
“The TTSAO would like a full audit on all community colleges, government organizations, safety organizations and private businesses who offer the DCP,” the TTSAO said. “Additionally, the TTSAO believes a moratorium should be put on all community colleges who offer AZ testing and those students until an official investigation and audit can be facilitated.”
It said community college first-time pass rate is over 90% compared to 60% at the government-licensed DriveTest Centres. “The TTSAO believes the program is flawed,” it added. Mike Millian, president of the Private Motor Truck Council of Canada (PMTC), said his organization had been vocal over the years in its disapproval of the program. “The PMTC believes it is a massive conflict of interest to allow anyone to test their own drivers and/or students.”

Kenworth will collaborate with Meritor on the development of an electric powertrain for Class 8 Kenworth T680E battery-electric vehicles.
The T680E will be a short-hood day cab in tractor configurations of 4×2 and 6×4 axles, and as a 6×4 axle straight truck, it said.
The T680E will offer an operating range between 100 to 150 miles, depending on application.
“The Kenworth T680E development in collabora tion with Meritor is a major advanced technology step in Kenworth’s evolution of zero-emission electric powertrain solutions for our customers,” said Kevin Baney, Kenworth general manager and vice-president of Paccar, the parent company.
Initial production of the T680E is expected to begin in the fourth quarter 2020 and ramp through 2021.
“We look forward to working closely with Kenworth to help develop the Kenworth T680E as an important, viable battery-electric answer for the day cab market,” said T.J. Reed, vice-president of global electrification for Meritor.
Meritor is a leading supplier of drivetrain and aftermarket solutions for the commercial vehicle industry. ô̶äÆ H çÆÁ» Õ¶éòðæ àÆFH@ÂÆ ìËàðÆÇÂñËÕÇàÌÕ ×¾âÆÁ» çÆ ÇÂñËÕÇàÌÕ êÅòðà̶é ÇòÕÃå Õðé ñÂÆ Õ¶éòðæ î¶ðÆà¯ð éÅñ û޶çÅðÆ Õð¶×ÅÍ
