Experiments in biophilic design have reached a tipping point, and the notion is reshaping cities, house design, workplaces, and hotels. And it’s more than just plants; it’s all the ways we can incorporate nature into architecture and the built environment, whether through natural light, fresh air, natural materials, or the usage of organic shapes that replicate nature’s own design.
Characteristic Of Biophilia Architecture And Space

1. Environmental characteristics. Natural environment characteristics and elements such as sunlight, fresh air, plants, animals, water, soils, landscapes, natural colors, and natural materials such as wood and stone.
2. Organic shapes and structures. The modeling and imitation of natural shapes and forms. Leaves, shells, trees, foliage, ferns, honeycombs, insects, various animal species, and body parts are examples of botanical and animal shapes.
Biophilia: A LongTerm Future of Architecture and Design, Not a Passing ‘Trend’
3. Patterns and processes found in nature. The functions, structures, and principles that characterize the natural world. Designs that, for example, stimulate several senses, imitate the properties of organic growth, promote the organization of complexity, or reflect the processes of aging and the passage of time are examples.
4. The use of light and space. The spatial and lighting elements evoke the feeling of being in a natural location. Natural lighting, a sense of spaciousness, and more subtle expressions, as well as the integration of light, space, and mass, are examples of these.
5. Relationships based on location. Buildings and the distinguishing topographical, biological, and cultural qualities of specific places and regions. This can be accomplished by combining geological and geographical elements, using local and indigenous materials, and making connections to specific historic and cultural traditions.
6. Human-nature connections have evolved. The feeling of being in a coherent and legible environment, the sense of perspective and refuge, the simulation of life growth and development are all basic inborn impulses associated with nature.
