Sky Line Rental Price Change Successful Multichannel Delivery for Sky The Challenge Sky operates the most comprehensive multichannel, multi-platform television service in the UK, Ireland, Italy and Germany. Legally, Sky must keep customers informed of any changes to their contract or rates within a strict time schedule. For price changes, customers must be informed 31 days before the new price is charged. Fiona Millard, Print Manager, Sky, explains, “Our team was challenged with informing 5.3m customers of the impending price change, within a mandatory time period, using 2 channels: Mail, and Email. This campaign would utilise a total of 141 template variants, across the 2 channels. This meant we required a supplier that had expertise in delivering integrated marketing campaigns with complex data builds, and a solution that would allow us to proof all streams together, regardless of channel.”

GI Solutions have managed Sky’s data for over 10 years, providing complex data and multi-variant template builds for high volume, fast-turnaround direct mail and complex daily transactional mail requirements. GI Solutions imported Sky’s data and assets and composed 82 email templates and provided HTML. At the same time, in the same stream, and from the same data and asset input, 59 letter templates were created and proofed together making it easier for the team at Sky to check and approve.

Results • On time - The 3m mailed packs were produced, mailed and landed within the mandatory time period, meeting critical KPIs. • Saved money - Using Mailmark® Sky saved £6,714, but more importantly Sky had full visibility of the mail landing. • Simple process - All email templates were set and the HTML delivered accurately and on time, at 1/3 of the usual cost, providing a considerable saving.

The Royal Mail’s Private Life of Mail used a neuroscience technique to measure engagement, emotional intensity and long-term memory encoding when the brain is processing advertising messages. The more effective results from using mail have been linked to its tangibility – the fact that you physically receive a letter which you open and read. The research also showed consumers have a place to keep the mail they receive – one outstanding finding was that mail stayed in the home for an average of 17 days, which shows how mail supports your brand awareness.
