Dear Girl Scouts, Girl Scout camp is an opportunity for girls to leave their screens behind and get away from it all in a safe, girl-only environment. She’ll discover the world around her at Ducktail Day Camp, meet her Girl Scout sisters from across the valley (or across the country!) at two resident camp options in California, and take part in traditional campfire songs at Songfest Jamboree. Whether she’s up for an outdoor adventure or wants to stay closer to home, at Girl Scout camp, she’ll choose her own adventure! U LT I MAT E U TAH ADV E N T U R E SUMMER 2019 Calling all Cadette, Senior, and Ambassador risk-takers! Weâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;re heading east to Utah for an outdoor adventure! Certified staff from the Carbon County Recreation Department will lead Girl Scouts as they white water raft, rappel, and hike. Participants will experience college life as they sleep in dorms on the campus of Utah State University. Transportation is included. Check the GSSNV website for dates!

SONG F E S T J AM B OR E E O C T OB E R 4 - 6, 2 01 9 Join us for the 2nd annual Songfest Jamboree! Our 2018 event was the largest multi-Council gathering of Girl Scouts in the Western US with guests from 11 states and 17 Girl Scout Councils. In 2019, we will be returning to beautiful Pali Retreat and Conference Center in Running Springs, CA from October 4-6, 2019. Campers will sleep in cabins and dine at Huckleberry Hall, Paliâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s cafeteria. Days are filled with workshops that include high adventure activities, badge work for every level of Girl Scouts, beginning guitar classes, songwriting, archery, hiking, songs, and more. Evening activities include campfire, sâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;mores, SWAPS, and even more songs. Each guest will receive a sweatshirt, fun patch, and songbook.

CAM P A Z AL E A T R AI L S & S K Y L AN D R ANC H S I S T E R S F OR T H E S U M M E R Camp Azalea Trails is a 12-acre camp located in the San Jacinto Mountains near the town of Idyllwild, CA at an elevation of around 6,400 feet. Camp is surrounded by beautiful canyons, tranquil streams and hundreds of pine trees providing the ideal resident camp setting. For over 75 years, thousands of Girl Scouts have experienced the magic of Camp Azalea Trails and Skyland Ranch. In partnership with Girl Scouts of San Gorgonio, campers will participate in STEM, campfires, and more!

AT-1: Outdoor Cooking June 17 - June 21

Join our sister Council and be a Chef! With cooking sprinkled throughout the week, girls get to have all the fun of camp and still make yummy things to eat while they learn the basics of cooking â&#x20AC;&#x201C; heat, measuring, ingredients, and method. Girls will create a cookbook, make jam, tortillas, and use a number of different cooking methods. They will become eggsperts in egg making as they try their hand at cooking eggs on everything including a stick, if they are brave enough for the challenge.

AT-4: Makerspace: Metal & Clay June 28 - June 30

TRANSPORTATION INCLUDED TO LISTED SESSIONS

Spend the weekend making beautiful and unique art using metal and clay. Girls will have a chance to pound, pinch, squeeze, roll, coil, twist and squish clay. Once they have their art the way they like it, we will let it dry to finalize the piece based on the design. Girls will also have a chance to try forging metal, using tools to hammer and bend. Come create in our makerspace using the materials we have on hand to let your inner artist soar free.

June 28 - June 30 Celebrate your adventurous soul as you take a trip around the world with our international staff without ever leaving camp. Learn about other countries, games, and crafts all while you enjoy archery, hiking, crafts, and more. You’ll enjoy awesome food, songs, make S’mores over a campfire and sleep in a cabin! All participants must be Girl Scout members prior to attendance and adults must be background screened. Adults are responsible for their own girls at all times.

FEE: $125 per person (no horseback) $160 per person (horseback)* *Horseback riders: Age 7 & under ride in the arena. Age 8 & up can go on a trail ride depending on their comfort.

AT-8: Training Camp for Hunger Games or Magical Congress July 15 - July 19 In this session, girls choose between The Hunger Games or Magical Congress where they will learn fencing, survival skills, stealth, and more. Use problem solving and science to prepare for a game of strategy.

AT-12A: Star Wars vs Star Trek July 29 - August 1 We’re blending Star Wars and Star Trek into one epic camp session. Participate in fencing with light sabers, star gazing “exploring” new worlds, scientific experiments to discover the flaws of the Death Star, deciding if phasers or Photon torpedoes are more effective, and trekking through “alien” worlds using only your communicators to communicate between your ship mates. The blending of two “universes” Star Trek vs. Star Wars will lend itself to a memorable science fiction filled universe exploring session. Join us and become one with the force.

All participants in Girl Scout programs, events, and activities shall adhere to the specific refund policy as defined on the registration/information materials for the specific activities and events. (e.g. council approved flyers, web information posted on the councils official web site or distributed in official council e-mails, council approved day and resident camp brochures etc). Unless otherwise stated the refund policy is:

If a mandatory deposit is required it is nonrefundable regardless of reason. Activities costing over $15 will be subject to a 15% cancellation fee; activities costing $15 or less are non-refundable. Written notification of cancellation must be received at least thirty (30) days prior to the activity to be considered for a refund. In case of emergency cancellation, a written note must be received within ten (10) days of the activity’s conclusion to be considered. If emergency is medical in nature, a written doctor’s statement must be provided to be considered for full or partial refund. If a participant leaves an activity early due to homesickness, unacceptable behavior, or parental request, no refund will be made. If a participant must leave early due to illness or injury, request for prorated refund must be made in writing within ten (10) days of the activity’s conclusion to be considered. A full refund including deposit will be made if the activity is cancelled by council. A full refund including deposit will be made if the participant cannot be placed or does not meet the event guidelines. No-shows are non-refundable. Membership registration fees are nonrefundable.

CAM P A Z AL E A T R AI L S FAQ’S How can I prepare my camper? At the beginning of April, planning guides are e-mailed to registered girls. If you register after the beginning of April, expect to receive the planning guide within 2 weeks of registering. Can my daughter request to go to camp with a buddy? While camp is a chance for girls to make new friends, we understand the importance of experiencing camp with a familiar buddy. During registration, you may list the name of a buddy and choose the same cabin or yurt. Be advised, cabins and yurts are organized by age. All buddy requests are on a first come, first serve basis. What if the weather is bad? The weather at Camp Azalea Trails is typically favorable. Activities are modified in the event of rainfall with the exception of the horse experience, which is restricted for the day. Can I send mail to Camp Azalea Trails? Campers love receiving mail, however due to the remote location of camp, it takes awhile for camp to receive mail. During our check-in process, we encourage parents to pre-write mail for their camper. This will then be delivered to girls on the day specified. How does camp handle unique dietary requirements? Camp Azalea Trails is able to accomodate a variety of dietary concerns. If you have particular questions, please contact the Girl Scouts of San Gorgonio at customercare@gssgc.org What about girls with medication needs? Trained medical staff will work with your camper’s medication needs at camp. Simply record her medicine and dosage information on the health form. All medications must be in their original containers with dosage information attached. If I choose a camp session that is not a “Sisters in Scouting” session but has the same dates, can I use the GSSNV transportation service? Yes, but you must notify Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada program staff at customerservice@girlscoutsnv.org so your Girl Scout can be included in counts. When is final payment due? Final payment is due four weeks prior to the camp session. Any registrations within four weeks of the camp session must be paid in full at time of registration. What is the last date I can register? Depending on session, final registration is 2-3 weeks in advance. Check the links for final registration dates for your desired camp session. Are scholarships available? CAM P SC H E R MAN S I S T E R S F OR T H E S U M M E R Located just a few hours outside of Orange County, CA in the San Jacinto Mountains, Camp Scherman has been a special place for Orange County’s Girl Scouts for over 50 years. Under the soaring Jeffrey Pines (that smell like butterscotch!), girls take on new challenges, learn to collaborate with others, become self-reliant, and develop lifelong leadership skills. Whether she’s hiking the Cedar Springs Trail, playing games in the pool with friends, kayaking across Promise Lake, or participating in Camp Scherman’s many timeless traditions, there are endless possibilities for her to connect with nature and discover her greatness.

Artrageous Get your creative juices flowing and let your imagination go as you make your own unique jewelry, colorful tie-dye creations, and intricate lanyards. Explore camp and create art out of nature as you find inspiration in the beauty of the mountains. All materials provided.

CAM P SC H E R MAN FAQ’S How can I prepare my camper? Camper packets and forms are e-mailed. Please make sure to use an active e-mail address while registering for camp. Check out our Camp Scherman Board on pinterest! pinterest.com/girlscoutsoc. Can my daughter request to go to camp with a buddy? Girls can bring a buddy from their troop or a friend who is not yet a Girl Scout. Buddies are placed together according to program session, age, and Girl Scout level. Be sure both girls list the other under “Camp Buddy” during online registration. Non Girl Scouts will be asked to pay an additional $35 to attend. What if the weather is bad? All sessions are held in rain, sleet, sunshine, etc., unless the determination is made that conditions are unsafe. Can I send mail to Camp Scherman? You can send letters and packages, or you can sign up to send one-way emails to your camper (fees apply). Information on Bunk1 will be included in the camp packet. These emails are printed and delivered daily with the rest of camp mail. NOTE: At this time, we do not have the capability for campers to send outgoing emails. We encourage all campers to write a letter home. You may want to provide your camper with a notepad, pen and stamped envelopes with your home address pre-written on them. How does camp handle unique dietary requirements? If your camper has food allergies or dietary restrictions (such as vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free), please be sure to indicate this in the “special needs” field when registering your camper online. You will then be contacted by the Camp Director, Health Center Supervisor and/or Food Supervisor to discuss any allergies or dietary restrictions, the type, and reactions. We are able to accommodate most food allergies and dietary restrictions. We also have a successful system in place to limit cross contamination and ensure that safe and healthy meals are provided. Camp Scherman is not a peanut/tree nut-free camp but we are “peanut/tree nut-aware.” We do have respect for each individual camper and their needs. We are mindful about camper sensitivity and reactions to peanut/tree nuts and residues, including if a product is manufactured in a plant that processes them. What about girls with medication needs? Camp Scherman has a health center stocked with the most commonly used over-the-counter medications. Please do not send Tylenol, cough syrup, etc. The Health Center Supervisor will distribute medication as needed. If your camper needs to take prescribed medication, it must come to camp in the original container with her name on it and a physician’s authorization must accompany the medication. More Information will be available in the camper packet. When is final payment due? Final payment is due four weeks prior to the camp session. Late payments may result in loss of placement in the camp session and forfeit of deposit. Any registrations within four weeks of the camp session must be paid in full at time of registration. What is the last date I can register? Registration must be completed two weeks prior to the camp session and paid in full. Are scholarships available? A full refund, minus the deposit, is available if a request to cancel is made more than 4 weeks prior to camp session. No refund will be issued for cancellation requests less than 4 weeks prior to camp session.

CAM P DUC K TAI L Join the Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada on a fairy tale adventure at Camp Ducktail! Join us for 1, 2, 3, or all 10 weeks of Ducktail Day Camp thatâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s sure to fill her days with wonder! Daisy, Brownie, and Junior Ducktail Day campers will experience hands-on STEAM (Science, Tech, Engineering, Arts, and Math) activities, games, songs, arts and crafts, and additional fun with purpose activities. Ducktail Day Campers will also learn from subject matter experts while earning badges and completing Girl Scout Journeys. While Camp Ducktail is a great environment for younger Girl Scouts, Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors will have plenty of opportunities to discover, connect, and take action this summer! Cadettes can earn the American Red Cross Babysitting Certification including First Aid and CPR for infants and children. Cadettes have the opportunity to complete traditional Journeys throughout the summer while participating in traditional camp activities and assisting younger campers with arts and crafts, games, songs, and STEAM activities! Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors who volunteer at least 20 hours at Camp Ducktail will earn the Service to Girl Scouting Bar. Need some help learning how to keep your identity safe on the internet? Then you’ve come the right place! Campers will gain a basic understanding about how computers work and protecting themselves while surfing the web. REFUNDS / CANCELLATION POLICY Minimum and maximum attendance requirements exist for all programs. Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada reserves the right to cancel or change any scheduled activities due to lack of enrollment, severe weather, or natural disaster. Cancellation and refund requests must be made in writing thirty (30) days before the event to receive a 100% refund. No refunds within 30 days of the event. ☙☙ No refunds will be issued for no-shows. ☙☙ The $25 Girl Scout membership fee and $15 GSSNV Council Service Fee are nonrefundable. ☙☙ All refund requests must be made in writing to: customerservice@girlscoutsnv.org. ☙☙ Requests should include member’s name, address, program name, date, and reason for refund / cancellation.

CAM P DUC K TAI L FAQ’S Where is Camp Ducktail held? At the council office, 2941 East Harris Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89101 What is Check-in and Check-out process? On the first day of camp, we prefer the main caregiver to drop off the camper to go over forms and documents. At Check-out, the person picking up the camper must be listed on the Camper Release Form (completed online) and must provide proper identification. For more detailed information, be on the lookout for the 2019 “Preparing for Ducktail” packet. What do I wear to day camp? Old clothes are best and should include shorts, T-shirts (no tank tops or spaghetti strap), socks/shoes (closed-toe and no sandals), raincoat or poncho if wet conditions are predicted. What do I bring to day camp each day? Bring these items daily to camp in a backpack or similar type of bag. Mark the bag with camper’s name. • • • • • • • • •

A water bottle Hat or bandana Swimsuit and towel - on specified days Closed-toe shoes An extra pair of closed-toe shoes that can get wet A plastic grocery bag for wet clothes and shoes Raincoat or rain poncho (if rain is forecasted) Sunscreen Lunch (if special diet required)

If my camper has a game / event, can I pick her up and return her anytime? We prefer all campers remain at camp for the entire day. If it is critical to take your camper out of camp, you will need to contact the camp director prior to or during check-in on the first day. Your camper will not be able to return until the following day. Please provide a note with the day, time, reason, and who will be picking up your camper on the day of the early departure. Is there anything my camper can’t have with her at day camp? We do not allow electronic devices (including cell phones, tablets, electronic games and music playing devices) so that girls gain the full benefit of the camp experience Are scholarships available? American Camp Association (ACA) accreditation shows that safety is a top priority at Camp Ducktail. You can rest easy knowing your daughter is in good hands while she’s at camp! 18

Quiz Results 11-17 Points It sounds like youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;re not quite ready to take the plunge, but you/your daughter can get a feel for camp life at Camp Ducktail. Camp Ducktail is great for new experiences-you get to have all sorts of camp fun during the day and go home to sleep in your own bed at night.

18-25 Points Youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;re confident and ready to try new things / send your daughter to camp. She & Me would be a great way for you and your girl to experience the great outdoors.

26-33 Points You and your girl are camping pros or naturals! You/your girl love adventure, trying new things, and making new friends. Why not try out a resident camp session that lasts a whole week?

Looking into the Future A New Frontier In December 2018, Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada CEO, Kimberly Trueba, announced that our Council was the recipient of a property and land gift located in rural Lincoln County, NV, approximately 90 miles north of Las Vegas. Included in the donation: A Cowboyâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Dream Bed and Breakfast, Windmill Ridge Restaurant and Lodging, and undeveloped acreage all totaling nearly 70 acres. The gift, provided by the Charles and Phyllis M. Frias Charitable Trust and valued at nearly $9 million, marks the largest single private donation in the history of Girl Scouts. As we look to the future of Girl Scout camp in Southern Nevada, we look forward to providing girls a place to learn, explore, discover, and take action. Together, weâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;re embarking on a new frontier.
