Foreward The Buckingham Literary Festival began in 2016 and by 2017 had already established itself by its wide and varied programme which includes some of the best authors writing today. With a stellar line up organised for the 2020 literary festival it was with a heavy heart the team responsible for those wonderful festivals to date made the decision to cancel the 2020 festival due to Coronavirus. (Festival Director Christopher Woodhead echoes the thoughts and feelings of every member of the Festival Team) “Our festival family is incredibly saddened by [this]. Ultimately though, we’d rather plough our efforts into assuring that 2021’s festival is a show stopper, giving our authors. our audiences, our sponsors, staff, volunteers and our festival friends the space they may need this year to cope with all that this horrible situation may throw at us.” With 2021 just over the horizon we here at the literary festival have produced this catalogue of drawings to remind you of the dazzling authors who have given you a wonderful insight into their world during the last few years. “Thank you for your support, stay safe and keep in touch we look forward to seeing you in 2021” www.bucklitfest.org

Introduction Gino Ballantyne, Buckingham Literary Festival Artist since 2017 is an international artist. The scope of his work includes: painting, multi installations, sculpture, large performance drawings and sound composition. He exhibits nationally and internationally and has work held in public and private collections. He has been awarded and shortlisted for prizes in the UK, France and the USA. Recent exhibitions include “Take Over Times Square” New York 2014, “Exposure Awards Premier” The Louvre Museum, Paris 2015, 15th Scope Art Show, “A Meditation on Place” Miami beach, Miami 2016, “Notations”, The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Glasgow 2017, “Resonance”, Glasgow School Of Art, Glasgow 2017, Artbasel, “Art takes Miami” Miami 2018, Buckingham Parish Church 2019, The Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh 2018, 2019, 2020. The drawings in this book portray some of the authors and speakers at the festival between 2017 and 2019. The last author during 2019’s literary festival was Terry Waite interviewed by Sir Anthony Seldon, drawn by Ballantyne. He has since created an analogue drawing as a visual transcription of there interview which he scanned and translated into binary and subsequently completed a portrait in oils of Terry Waite which was added to Ballantyne”s series of paintings titled hostages. These weaved extensions were informed by his interest in Bigdata, sound, language, violence and the “Other” and how these effect human consciousness. Ballantyne is also currenly Artist in Residence at St Peter and Paul, Buckingham parish church where he is working on large scale paintings of the “The Crucifixion” which will be unveiled in late 2020.
