ALL LIBRARY MATERIALS ARE NOW PAST DUE!

Mrs. Readerpants Now that summer’s upon us, you’ll have time to investigate potential good reads. There are a lot of great resources, but here’s

one

blog

I

discovered

that

is

informative for every audience: students, parents, and teachers. It’s called “Mrs. Readerpants,”

and

aside

from

the

elementary sounding name, it’s really got some great recommendations for middle and high school readers. The author is a librarian

for

a

college,

but

she

stays

current in children’s and teen literature.

The final date to turn in materials was May 1st. Any materials turned in after that time are past due, and there is a charge of 10¢ per day. If a book was lost, just call, email , or stop by to find out what you owe for it. MIDDLE SCHOOL summer READING TITLES

Your summer reading guide is just a click away. We’ve included all of the suggested reading lists for our middle school students on the SMMHS LMC website. Just click here to see some of the exciting titles your teachers have picked out for you. Do you know a teen who’s an aspiring writer?

Her blog entries include a summary, her review, “the bottom line,” read-alikes, an informative rating system, and a cautionary section

for

warnings

of

language

or

content. You can find books grouped by genre or theme. I highly recommend this for personal reads or classroom planning!

Lotsa Fun!

Barnes & Noble is partnering with A Novel Idea to host a camp for teen writers from June 2-26. The 15 participants will receive one-on-one direction from publishing professionals & graphic artists to complete their novel. In December they will receive their published works and sit down for their first author signing. For more information click here, or contact Kelly Flemming at Barnes & Noble Hamilton Place. Space is limited, and scholarships are available.

SHELF AWARENESS By M. Glover

As you’re searching for a good book this summer, remember to check out our page on the SMMHS Library website for some recommendations!

We’re closed, but you can still visit the Chattanooga Public Library or the Signal Mountain Library! Keep on reading!!!

Planning to spend some of your time cooling off this summer in a movie theatre? Chances are you may run into one of your favorite books come to life, but is the movie always better than the book? Most would agree the answer is usually no. There’s a challenge in bringing to life someone else’s imagination and when bringing a book to the big screen, filmmakers have the tough challenge of not only making the author’s words become real on screen, but they also have to dig deep into the imagination of the all of book’s readers, and this is a vast and deep pool. According to Barnes & Noble there are at lease “6 Reasons the Book is (Almost Always) Better than the Movie.” See for yourself who gets it right this summer and who misses the mark as several of our favorite reads are brought to life in theaters:

Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert Drama starring Ezra Miller, Mia Wasikowska, and Paul Giamatti Release Date: June 12

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl by Jesse Andrews Drama starring Olivia Cooke, Nick Offerman, and Jon Bernthal Release Date: June 12 Want to be sure you receive the newsletter directly to your email?
