Gamma Iota Lambda (GIL) is the Brooklyn-Long Island Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc - the First Intercollegiate Fraternity founded by African Americans at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY in 1906. GIL was chartered on May 5, 1945 by eleven extraordinary Alpha Men, many of whom were sons of World War II as well as civic and faith leaders. GIL would be called home by the Fraternity's Past General President and Chapter founder, Myles A. Paige, Jewel Eugene Kinkle Jones and a diverse array of talented servant leaders. GIL has an incredible past and a bright future. True to our Fraternity motto, "First of All, Servants of All, We Shall Transcend All", we invite you to join us in empowering our community in Brooklyn and beyond.
