STREETSCAPE
The wide right-of-way on Howard Street and adjacent side streets, combined with the downtown’s manageable scale, provide space for on-street parking and wide sidewalks. This allows visitors to park once and walk throughout the downtown area.
Street lights are new and are placed in a rhythmic pattern along Howard Street. Benches and trash cans, however, are scarce and not placed in a manner that best serves visitors. Landscaping in most of Downtown could be improved with year-round use in mind.
Recreation Plan
Plan
Downtown Croswell’s Howard Street provides a “Main Street” at comfortable scale that is easily walkable. Howard Street is a pedestrian friendly, traditional downtown street with wide sidewalks, street lighting, and pedestrian friendly store fronts. Opportunities exist to enliven the downtown sidewalks with outdoor dining, interesting window displays, and landscaping.
One of the great strengths of Downtown is the Black River, yet businesses have not capitalized on the views and connections to this unique resource. The Black River sets Croswell apart from many other small towns in the Thumb area. There are many opportunities available to feature and connect to this unique resource moving forward.
