CEO'S CORNER

Your GBGA team is working hard to arrange a variety of working groups and events to bring the industry together and enhance collaboration and drive the value for all members. We are planning many changes including bringing in new team members to support you and as part of this we are delighted to introduce the new look of our newsletter, in which we will introduce all our new initiatives and items of importance.

Over the next months we will role out the new GBGA format which includes many initiatives during which we also expect to receive the New Gambling Act. Once the new Act has been presented, we will set up a Group to review and collate feedback based on what it will mean for the Gibraltar industry and for our individual members.

OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SERVICE OHS aims to provide, bespoke occupational health solutions based upon organisational profiling, which means that your company receives the exact health services that it needs. This is with an additional objective of generating less work-related ill-health; reduced staff absence; direct and indirect cost savings for the company and ultimately a healthier and happier workforce Their Mission is to enhance the productivity of companies, and the health and wellbeing of employees across Gibraltar. To accomplish this, they believe strongly in the need for a dedicated objective medical service that provides clear trusted advice to the employer and an independent knowledgeable ear to the employee.

The first and only dedicated occupational health provider in Gibraltar The OHS offer a 10% discount on all their Occupational Health Services to the GBGA membership.

In addition, each member will receive a free 20min presentation from a Wellbeing Consultant. This mini taster workshop can be presented to as many employees and line managers as needed.

For Employers For employers, OHS offers a full suite of health surveillance, medical assessments, training and absence management services, all underwritten by their ethos of fully understanding your place of work and nurturing effective two-way communication.

Should you require reports from them, they will firstly be timely and the advice they contain will be clear, concise, with advise on relevant aspects of Gibraltar law where appropriate.

For Employees For your employees, OHS offers a host of services that can help monitor their health and give them the opportunity to identify signs of ill-health early. Their health assessments can help you as an employer understand that they are fit for the job that they have been employed to do and identify any needs they may have. They will advise you on any changes that need to be made to accommodate any injury or disease that they develop. In addition, they offer training that can help them understand the relationship between health and work, and offer tools that can enhance their own wellbeing and that of their colleagues.

CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE IN RESPONSIBLE GAMING TThe Centre of Excellence in Responsible Gaming (CERG) at the University of Gibraltar is an interdisciplinary research institute for the scientific study of gambling behaviour, problem gambling and related health issues.

Inaugurated on March 10, 2022, by the Honourable Albert J. Isola, MP, Minister for Digital, Financial Services and Gaming in the presence of the Minister for Education, the Hon Professor John Cortes, MP, the CERG is the realization of a shared vision and years of hard work by political leaders, industry leaders and the University of Gibraltar. the opening of this centre of excellence with the full support of our Gambling Firms demonstrates the maturity of this sector which has long recognized the need to do more to identify and support those negatively impacted by this industry

The CERG central goal is to identify risky ways of engagement in gambling and gaming and to understand factors that may lead to gambling problems.

The research to be conducted by the Chair of the CERG and his team at the University will be invaluable to the industry and the Jurisdiction and will lead to bespoke training for all customer facing staff in the sector. I am most grateful to the GBGA and the firms, as well as the University for working together with us to deliver this objective - Albert J. Isola, MP, Minister for Digital, Financial Services and Gaming

The research will provide gaming industry leaders, consumers and government with evidence-based knowledge about how to reduce gambling related harm, protect at-risk consumers and contribute to effective prevention, treatment and interventions.

In addition to research, it aims to contribute to the development of education programmes and interventions that reduce harm related to gambling. The CERG public lecture series will provide information to the wider public on gambling related issues.

Collaboration is key. We have a core team of international researchers and PhD students, and an extensive international scientific network. We work closely with other universities and research institutions, governmental authorities, gambling operators and NGOs. We look forward to growing our network of operators in Gibraltar.

As a first step, we will reach out to all gambling operators in Gibraltar to identify collaboration possibilities in research, education and services related to responsible gaming. In the coming weeks we will launch this consultation process with a survey of leaders in the industry. Please watch your inbox for our introduction.
