Patti Jones considered herself a typical female since she was a very young boy named Peter. She earned her degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rochester Institute of Technology, joined the family machine and tool design company, taught skiing and snowboarding, raced sailboats, was “happily married to a wonderful woman” for 24 years and had a daughter. It was at the age of 50 - in 2004 - she formally transitioned and has since been dedicated to Western New York’s LGBTQ communities as an activist and mentor.

We are saddened to learn of the passing of our friend Madeline D. Davis. Madeline founded the Buffalo Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Archives (now the Dr. Madeline Davis LGBTQ Archive of Western New York) in 2001 and is a noted gay rights activist and past member of the Imperial Court of Buffalo. She was the first openly lesbian delegate elected to a major political convention in 1972 where she addressed the convention in support of the gay rights plank in the democratic platform. In 1972 she also taught the first course on lesbianism in the United States. Because of her activism and tireless efforts in the area of LGBTQ+ rights... we are forever indebted to her. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of her friends and family especially her partner @Wendy Smiley, Stonewall Nation by Madeline D. Davis

From the Desk of the President Good Evening Esteemed Colleagues and Honored Guests, Warmest of greetings and welcome to Coronation 30, “Return to High School - Graduation Day,” a Virtual Presentation! Tonight we celebrate Emperor 29 Marty Crawford, Empress 29 Anita Mandalay Alexander and the 29th Reign of the Imperial Court of Buffalo. The evening will culminate with the crowning of Emperor-Elect David Millitello and Empress-Elect Pup PJ Wolf and the official start of the 30th reign of the Imperial Court of Buffalo. Picture it, Buffalo, New York, March 2020! The world as we knew it changed with the state of New York being placed “On Pause.” Businesses were shut down and a Shelter-In-Place order was enacted. The election process for the Monarchs of the 30th reign had already begun and we moved forward, hoping to hold our Coronation gala later in the year. As time progressed it became clear that would not happen and Coronation 30 would be postponed until May of 2021.

pen. Standard events were reinvented and new ideas were brought to the table, all in the hopes of continuing to raise funds for our charities. Online events and Facebook Live became the standard and our members rose to the occasion. While every member did help and support as best that they could, there were some individuals who definitely stepped up to help make it happen and I want to extend a special thanks to them. Zac Dornsife, aka Imperial Prince Royal Pup Bolt, for being our technology wizard. Making virtual events a reality for us, figuring out the glitches and bugs so that every event ran smoothly. As well as extending your knowledge and assistance to our friends in the Imperial Court System who needed it. Empress CoCo LaTique, a literal Major Domo, keeping events scheduled, promoted, and able to accept donations. A presence both behind the scenes as well as in front of the camera to help make events successful.

It was also decided that during this “Pause Reign” the College of Monarchs would take charge of the FUNdraising efforts of the Imperial Court of Buffalo to ensure that our designated charities were supported and that the court continued to move forward during these changing and challenging times.

During this “Pause Reign” we reinvented the way that we raised money and we were able to have a successful year doing it. Leading the way was Empress Connie B Concepcion and her monthly “Cocktails With Connie” virtual show. What began as an idea to “see how this might work” developed into an increasingly popular and successful virtual event. Thank you to Connie, all of her guests, the support staff that made it happen each month, as well as those who tuned in and supported. Another new and successful idea was “Pup PJ’s Pantry,” where Empress-Elect Pup PJ and Empress Jade Jette delivered delicious soups and desserts on a monthly basis, using PJ’s love and talent for cooking to raise funds while serving delicious food. Thank you to everyone who ordered and supported each month, as well as Emperor Eli and Emperor Fanny who helped with food prep each month. I know many of our ICS friends were wishing delivery could extend outside of the Buffalo and Western New York area.

It was all a start of “The New Normal” as we adapted to Zoom Meetings and Virtual Events. We learned, we adapted, we stayed relevant within our community, and we continued to support our designated charities. A big thank you goes out to the membership of the Imperial Court of Buffalo and every one who stepped up to make it all hap-

While some events needed to be cancelled, other events were reinvented and able to be held in a different way. Our successful Annual Spaghetti Dinners were revamped into Pasta Delivery Events. Emperor Eli’s Annual Corn Roast also became a food delivery event. We also tried our hands at different events as well, holding our first

In the interim it was decided that the Imperial Court of Buffalo would have a “Pause Reign” or as some have referred to it, Reign 29-Point-Five. The Monarchs of Reign 29 were welcomed to the College of Monarchs and the Royal Family to Reign 29 was considered as having successfully completed their reign. The Monarch Election results were announced and David Millitello and Pup PJ Wolf would be known as Emperor-Elect and Empress-Elect until crowning at Coronation 30.

Virtual Meat Raffle. Throughout the year members stepped up with ideas to raise funds for our charities, hosting online raffles, contests, and every kind of event that they could broadcast virtually. Thank you to all of them and all who supported these events. In the end the Imperial Court of Buffalo was able to raise over $20,000 for our charities this year, and this was with not holding an in-person event since February of 2020. Tonight David and Pup PJ officially take on the titles of Emperor and Empress and become the face of the Imperial Court of Buffalo. You have 30 years of history to follow, make this year your own, but always know that history is there with advice and support. Enjoy every minute of it because May 2022 will be here before you know it. In closing I want to thank you all for joining us tonight. For some, you would normally be here supporting and celebrating with us, enjoying the hospitality that the Buffalo community has to offer. To others, this may be your first time seeing what Coronation is all about. As things open up and we are able to hold events in person we hope you might come out and join us and possibly come to Coronation in 2022 to experience the full glory of an in-person Coronation Ball. Be well, be safe, and we hope to see you soon, In service to the Court and the Community, Vincent Ricci Jr Emperor 6 & 13 of Buffalo Imperial Court of Buffalo Board President

Imperial Court of Buffalo - Reign XXIX Welcome to our Virtual Coronation as we finally get a chance to end Reign 29. On behalf of the membership of the Imperial Court of Buffalo, and the Reign 29 Royal Family, I welcome you. This isn't a letter I ever expected that I'd have to write when I joined the court, as I never had the goal of becoming a monarch. My original plan was to work from the sidelines and support the court and it's charities without becoming the public "face" of the organization. Times and priorities changed. First among the many people to thank is, of course, my best friend Mike Tara. We met in a bar in June of 2008 as I was beginning the journey out of the closet, and he has been my guide and confidant since then. He introduced me to the bar scene, the drag scene, the Court, a real live drag queen as a person, and many of the people I now consider to be my closest friends. I joined the Court because of Mike, and have had his support since day 1. If anything, this is all his fault. My Empress: Anita Mandalay (Justin Curtis Harris) actually had a rough beginning when we first met. Justin was working in EMS, and I had done that for 20 years so I figured we should talk shop when I saw him out. He was shy, and quiet, and thought I was a bit overbearing. I do miss the shy and quiet Justin, LOL. During Reign 26 we worked well together as ICP's, and developed a very close friendship. We even had the crazy idea that we should run for Emperor and Empress the following reign. In case you missed it, Anita was elected Empress 27, and Emperor Rex Heart trounced my butt in the election. RIP Linda Shamrock. We miss you. Anita and I continued our travels together and grew closer. She "consented" to running again for Reign 29, as we really felt that we needed to reign together and complete our mission. We often find ourselves finishing each other's sentences, and having simultaneous thoughts. "Stop reading my mind" has been said more than once by each of us. I honestly think we only had one disagreement while reigning, and I conceded whatever the point was. I could not have asked for a more compatible partner in crime to reign with. Ah well, we'll always have Chicago. (have fun golfing) The Family: I asked David Militello to step up from the IPR role in Reign 28 and become the ICP for Reign 29. We didn't know each other all that well, but boy would we learn. I did learn that David gets nervous and likes to be

told that he's doing a good job. Early in the reign he didn't think I was going to keep him around because I wasn't telling him that he was doing well. I had to sit him down and tell him that the opposite was true. If I wasn't happy, that's when he'd hear something. No news is good news has always been my family motto. Once we got that settled, David truly stepped up to the plate and did everything he could to support the reign and our charities. He is a good friend now, and I look forward to his accomplishments as he takes the reins as Emperor to Reign 30. I thought Zak Dornsife was a young, enthusiastic newer member, so I asked him to serve as the IPR for Reign 29. He was a little hesitant at first, but that soon wore off and he took to the role with gusto. He worked tirelessly to support our charities and has come up with some of our better ideas throughout the reign. He also had some ideas we won't discuss in public, but that's another story. When he decides it's time, he's going to be an exciting and successful monarch. The princesses, ICP Scarlet Feva (Nicholas Mastin) and IPR Heather Van Detta are Anita's additions to the family and are rightfully hers to personally thank. I could not have made better choices myself. They both worked as a part of the team, and injected ideas and laughter when we needed it. We should have all stepped down nearly a year ago, yet we're still on the reign chat group almost every day sharing something within our little group. My Imperial Mother: Chevon Davis, what can I say that hasn't already been said about you. You're both timeless and ageless. You are the first drag queen that I ever met that I got to know as a person behind the makeup. Drag Megastar for all eternity, twice an Empress in Buffalo, the founder and originator of many of the LGBT events we now take for granted, and I was still lucky enough to become your friend and get referred to as Officer Marty. Thank you for your wisdom and your advice. My Imperial Father: Thomas Branscum Carrington Sugarbaker, this is partially your fault. You dragged me kicking and screaming away from my nice cushy Treasurer spot and asked me to become your IPR for Reign 25. That meant that I had to learn to plan events, and even to perform once in a while. Eek! Our many travels together have given us several hours to talk and learn from each other and to help me to discover this path. I will be forever greatful for your guidance and friendship.

My Halves: Trevor Reynolds and Adam Jenkins, thank you both for being my personal support team. The calls and messages of support were always welcomed and I appreciate your reassuring words when things got rough. Traveling to coronations and events in other realms has been both pleasurable and eye opening. We're all trying to do the same thing, yet we have found different ways to do it, as each community has different needs and abilities. I started with a quick trip to St. Catherine's years ago, and followed that up with visits to Kentucky, D.C., Connecticutt, Rhode Island, Chicago, Cincinatti, and of course, New York. The common element has always been the friendships made and the comraderie shared. I look forward to getting the world opened back up so that I can visit you all again. To any member of the ICS who may run for monarch at some point, I offer this humble advice. Plan your reign ahead of time. Be ready to hit the ground running when you get to victory brunch. Pick a great partner to reign with. Liking and getting along with your monarch partner will be crucial to your happiness. You are representing a business. Your Board of Directors will remend you of that from time to time. My Board was filled with people I love dearly, yet there were definitely days when I hated them. It's a business. Your College of Monarchs is full of people who have been there and done that. They know exactly what you should do and how you should do it because when they reigned everything was perfect, at least they think so. Listen to them anyway. There are nuggets of gold in there that you can put to use if you sort through everything and find the best advice. They will all offer to help you, and if you have the sense to actually reach out and ask them for something they will help you. I know for certain that there were times that I should have reached out and asked for some help. That about wraps things up. Our Reign came to a screaching halt last year with the restrictions that we had to follow during a global pandemic. No bars, no shows, no nothing, and then came Zoom. On the plus side, I'm still here to write this and you're still here to read it. I'm thankful for that.

Let's get Reign 30 started, and wish them a succesful year. Hip Hip Hoorah! In Service, His Most Imperial Sovereign Majesty The Purdue of Poultry Chasers The Ultimate Protector of the Lollipop Kids Emperor 29 Marty Crawford

Imperial Court of Buffalo - Reign XXIX Wow, what a ride this has been, reigning again, facing all sorts of new challenges, and ending with a pandemic cutting our plans short. It has been a crazy 2 years that is for sure, but I would not trade it for the world. Normally in a letter like this I would gush on and on about every little part of the reign, but here I sit well over a year from what was essentially the end of reign 29 and all I can think is the success of the organization does not belong to anyone I’m going to name in this letter, not myself, not Marty, not our family. This success belongs to the entire court, the entire community, and that is who I would like to thank for it. On a more personal noter there are a few people I will attribute my personal success to, and maybe a few people still having their heads… First and foremost, I want to thank my Imperial Husband, one of my closest and dearest friends, my sounding board, my chauffer, a man I truly adore. Marty, we planned this reign out for years, we didn’t get it the first time, then the second time was ruined by a pandemic, but I will gladly say…I’m not doing it again so suck it up!! LOL! You have been my rock for so many years now not just when it comes to court stuff, but personal stuff as well. I never would have imagined when we were chosen back in reign 26 to be ICP’s together that I would come away with such an amazing friend. I will never be able to thank you enough, but maybe I can find you a delicious little twink to call it even? My American Half, my mother, I could not have made a better choice in halves for my reign. You were there for me every step of the way whether it was to talk me off the ledge, listen to me vent, or just checking in to tell me you love me and make sure everything was ok. I am so proud to be a member of your family, and it TRULY is a family. We may pick on each other all the time, but every one of us

Alexanders would fight anyone who tried it with one of our 652 siblings. Again, I sound like a broken record, but I feel so honored to have found such a great friend in you, Love you Mummie! My Canadian Half Dusty Balfour, girl… we didn’t get to do everything we wanted to do because of Miss Rona, but I still would never regret choosing you as my Canadian half. Your support in both of my reigns was incredible, especially the random drop ins across the bridge (hopefully we can do that again soon.) I’m sad we got cut short but look forward to working together again after the borders open up. Our American Half Emperor, yes, I said OUR because Trevor you were just as helpful to me as you were to Marty during our reign. You are such an asset to your court, and the court system in general. I’m so glad I got to know you even just a little bit more over the last couple years. Our Royal Family: Our ICP’s David and Scarlet you two absolutely killed it!! I couldn’t be prouder of everything you two did during our reign and beyond. You 100% earned your titles! David, our “son” You are going to be an amazing Emperor, and even though sometimes (ok maybe all the time) I am a crotchety old B word you know I will be there right beside you helping in any way I can stand. I love you more than my crocs, and that’s saying something. You are such a great friend and Chinese buffet buddy! I’m always here for you whenever you need to yell about something, someone, or just because. Scarlet, our “Sweet”” Daughter” you were such an amazing ICP and I’m so glad I made the choice to have you take on that role. You were truly my right hand whenever I needed you. As long as I didn’t ask you what city in Canada, we were going to… Even though you are a traitor and moved away to Florida, I do really cherish our friendship and I’m glad that even just for a short while you came to Buffalo. You are truly missed up here, and I am going to need to come visit once Miss Rona leaves town.

Heather, our “Daughter” who would have thought the weird kid taking pictures of the grass would drag you into all of this. 2-time IPR, now a soon to be ICP. What can I say to you that I haven’t already said before, you’ve been my best friend for far too many years at this point, and I wouldn’t change that for the world! We have been besties, roommates, and coworkers, if we don’t calm down people may start questioning my homosexuality. I love you to the moon and back 1000 times. I can’t wait to see you blossom during the next reign! Zak, Our Puppy “Son” you really stepped up during the reign and during the gap reign as well. You took on the technological burden when nobody else wanted it. The amazing things you have done certainly did not go unnoticed. You are going to be a fabulous ICP for David, and like I said any time you need help you know I will be right here for you. You’re going to do truly great things I know you will. Toy and Luis, as much as at times I wanted to strangle you both, the advice you gave me was priceless. Even though you traitors are moving away I will still truly cherish our friendship. I certainly won’t be able to forget you as I’ve inherited half of your house at this point!! Vince, you old B***h, you got a lot of the brunt of my anger during the reign at knit nights, drives to retreats, before podcast episodes, and everywhere in between. You’ve become one of my closest friends and I’m very thankful for it…usually… We have now successfully created two places for people to watch for flying knitting in a meeting! In closing, thank you to everyone I may have forgotten, it wasn’t purposeful it was the old age…I’m 33 now ya know! There are far too many people to name in this letter that have helped guide me over the years and you all know who you are!

Imperial Court of Buffalo - Reign XXIX Step up, Step down, Step up, Stepdown…… Step up? Well, we all know I ran for Emperor now but this is not about that. This is about Reign 29. What a year we have had! I still remember meeting Scarlet the first time. All I remember is this Tall drag Queen I have never met coming up to me saying “So I’m going to have to deal with you next year?” I don’t think I would ever change that introduction because looking back now we became the best of friends. We had a stellar year and rocked it out with all our events. I have to say thank you from the Bottom of my heart Scarlet Feva because without you I’m not sure I would have survived. To Anita and Marty thank you for giving me the chance to step up farther in the family and be you Imperial Crown Prince. I had a ball working with you two and you are both truly family to me in every sense of the way. You taught me everything I need for the next chapter of my book here with the Imperial Court System and I know you have my back wherever this path may lead me.

To Pup Bolt and Heather it has been awesome working with you two and seeing you guys grow. And I have a feeling Ill be seeing a lot of you guys over the next 12 months. Stay strong and keep you heads held high. You are capable of anything. To Will Bennet, thank you for being you. You have helped me through so much this year and your always there to talk to at any time. Can’t wait to see you again hopefully soon. To Bella Rose Reynolds Deluxe. You are my Guardian angel, whenever I’m needing guidance, you are there with a clear mind and the right words to get me through it. To Joy My Original Wife, thank you for stepping up and helping me with everything this year you are amazing and I cant wait to see what you bring to the table this year. Here is where I’m going to cry …. To my Mother, you have been my Strength for so long and the person I could always call if I needed anything even just to vent. You raised me to become the man I am today and Welcomed me with open arms when I came out. I cannot stress enough how glad and happy I am to be your son. Thank you for believing in me even when I did not. I’m glad You got to see me win the election to become emperor and I know your watching me from a from the row in the clouds as I continue my journey I Luv You MOM!

To My sister what is there to say other then thank you for everything you do. Although we have had our differences in the past, I look up to you for help and you are always there. I love you. To Dad I don’t think I was the son you expected when you and mom had me, but I have to say I couldn’t have asked for a better father. You have gone above and beyond, coming to events, and supporting me every way you can. I truly have no words to say other then I luv you and Thank you for everything! I’m truly blessed to have you and Mom as my parents not a lot of LGBT kids can say their parents are as supportive as you to have been. I can’t wait to show you what this year will bring. To my Imperial court of buffalo, thank you all for the support and help this year I could not have gotten through it without you all. We are a team and a family in this court, and it shows. In Service His most Imperial Sovereign Highness, Guardian of the shadows, Black diamond dragon of midnight, Imperial Crowned Prince to Reign 29 David V Militello

Imperial Court of Buffalo - Reign XXIX Greetings to the Imperial Court of Buffalo members, and fellow court members from all over the US, Canada and Mexico. I am not a queen of many words when it comes to writing things like this, so please forgive me if it is short and sweet. To the Imperial Court of London SW,ON, Imperial Court of Toronto, the Imperial Court of the WaterFall Empire, and the Imperial Court of New York it was great getting to know all of you, hanging out, and chatting at events, Miss Drew, who I still to this day to not trust when there are drinks on the table, thank you for giving me memories I will cherish, and for letting me co-mc one of your events. Bekka Blake, someone I called a sister of mine from even before I was a member of the Buffalo Court, I am so proud of the work you have done, and will keep doing. I wish we got more time to travel the circuit together, and to see what trouble we would have gotten into. Maddison Mansfield, so many things I could say about you but I wouldn’t have the time. You are one of the sweetest and kindest people I know. Your advices, guidance, and friendship is something I will always cherish. I cannot wait for you to come to Florida so we can chat like we always have.

To the members of the ICOB, from the bottom of my heart thank you. You accepted me as a member before I even joined and acted like I was always apart of your court. You trusted me to be your ICP after only knowing me for a year, and I hope I didn’t let you down. Even tho I amno longer in the area, I will always call myself a member of the ICOB. Marty and Anita, you accepted me as family and I will always be grateful for that. It was an honor to be your ICP and, as stated above I hope I didn’t disappoint either of you. Anita, yes I will always remember, when crossing the boarder where I am going….. Zac and Heather, I will always be here for any help you may need, or any advice I can give. I know whatever y’all decided to do you both will do it amazingly. And finally to David. We didn’t know each other vary well when we started this journey, but now I call you family. I still remember when we first met and I scared the ^#%$ out of you at Underground. During this time I have seen you grow and expand into someone I am proud to call a friend and a brother. I know you will do great in your adventures and I will be one of your loudest supporter. Sincerely The Coast to Coast Blood Red Ruby, Imperial Crowned Princess to Reign 29 Scarlet C.M. Feva.

Imperial Court of Buffalo - Reign XXIX This year I have enjoy the experience of being IPR 29. It has allowed me to grow and appreciate what the ICOB does for the community we support. Thank you to Marty and Anita for selecting me for to help Reign 29 be successful.

Reign 29 has been a very interesting one. I am very grateful to have been a part of such an amazing and caring Royal family.

I have seen what the other courts in the ICC do for their communities. It was inspiring. My many travels have inspired me to be more involved in the community more then ever. Throughout my travels this year I have meet so many great people. Thank you to the courts of DC, Chicago and Connecticut for their hospitality during their coronations weekend. On my first out of town coronation to Washington DC, I went by myself and did not know many people. Their court made me feel very welcome. I also met my pup family. Felton and Luthien, thank you for becoming my pup family. This year has been great. I definitely still have things to learn but the support from the Royal Family has been great. Thank you to David, Scarlet, Heather, and again the Emperor and Empress for dealing with me. I am a little bit of a spaz sometimes but thanks for working with me to make our events great.

Here’s is to the year ahead. Let’s all make it a good one. In Service Their Imperial Highness The towheaded terror of the raffle tickets. The speedy master of “have you tried rebooting it yet?” Imperial Prince Royale to Reign 29 Pup Bolt

Anita, you are my best friend forever and I love you so much! We butt heads every now and then, but we work it out and you’re just stuck with me. Marty, you were like the Papa bear, thank you for always being there when I came to you for help or advice. Scarlet, you and I had some good times together. I’ll always remember the awesome time I had hanging with your Dad at Marcellas. David, I admire your strength, you dealt with so much this year and still your perseverance and determination kept you going. Zak, my Imperial husband, you are always there for me, you always got my back, you are my brain when I can’t think, and my voice when I can’t speak, we truly are a power team and I look forward to future endeavors with you. Covid had impacted our ability to have in person events and we had to learn new ways to do what we do, and to everyone who held online events and/or supported ours, Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
