Words of Comfort

These past months since the coronavirus was first detected in the United States and in many parts of the world have been unusually cataclysmic. These are days of abnormal fear, panic, anxiety and hopelessness with towering ramifications on human health, financial security, social life and future goals. Fear, loneliness and stress have become companions in homes, even Christian households. When social and spiritual interactions are thwarted, not by choice but by circumstances beyond our control, we are forced to adjust. Consequently, doing church in these times of the COVID-19 pandemic has changed for all churches, especially predominantly black churches. This is because black churches and congregations have a great affinity for coming together to worship God in church buildings. But we want to remind our members that God is still in the business of protecting his own, so we encourage you to stay strong until the Lords delivering power is manifested over the coronavirus outbreak. God’s word assures us that God will never leave us nor forsake his own, and a genuine faith will dare to trust God in times of difficulty and does not look at circumstances but solely to God Many of our members have lost jobs already or are afraid of losing their jobs. At times, I know that many of you have set through sermons and teachings about faith and seem as though nothing can move us. However, the Christian’s faith will be tested during storms. I encourage you to find space inside your homes and to worship God intimately and individually, even as gathering together has become impossible. Prayers are going up for you on a daily basis, pray fervently. Because in Colossians 1:17, the Scripture said, “He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.”

Not only do I encourage you to stay strong but we also want you to know that we’re here to help meet your physical needs. Our church Pastoral support team, church team, and our Alpha teams will continue to make phone calls creating a food supply and clothing pantry to supplement whatever families may need. These are personal life issues because every one of us will come to our wits end over some physical and emotional life issues at some point, and all these emotions are understandable especially in these dire periods of human anguish and uncertainty. But Lady Terry and I want to recommend a remedy, and that remedy is to PRAY incessantly to God for much needed divine reprieve. The word of the Lord during these times of uncertainty is to Pray without ceasing 1 Thessalonians 5:17 and remember the fervent Prayers of the righteous availeth much.
