2017-2018 MEMBERSHIP GUIDE
Hello Mountaineer Team! I’m so fortunate to work with a first-class athletics staff and coaches who put our student-athletes first. We are working hard to provide opportunities for these student-athletes, our leaders of tomorrow, both academically and athletically, that will have a long-lasting, positive impact on their lives. I read a quote recently that I just love… “You don't climb mountains without a team, you don't climb mountains without being fit, you don't climb mountains without being prepared and you don't climb mountains without balancing the risks and rewards. And you never climb a mountain on accident - it has to be intentional.” This quote just fits perfectly for what we are trying to do here in Mountaineer athletics. We are one team working together to #ClimbTheMountain. With your support we can be all that much more prepared and intentional in getting to the top! Whether you have given for many years or are considering making a gift for the first time, I want to thank you for your interest in the Mountaineer Athletic Association. You are helping pave the way for all of our studentathletes to realize their full potential.
Let’s #ClimbTheMountain together!

The Mountaineer Athletic Association has been the official booster club of Western State Colorado University Athletics for 55 years. Western State and your Mountaineers would not be one of the most successful programs in NCAA Division II without the support of the MAA, and you can directly benefit the Mountaineers this season. Almost all the funds collected go to the scholarship needs of the most successful student-athletes in the nation.

2016-17 ... A year for the history books 2017 was a year for the record books, as the Mountaineers placed top10 in the nation four times, won four national titles and had an athlete move on to the National Football League. Western kicked off the year with the first winning season in volleyball in a decade. This was closely followed by the first winning season in football in nearly 15 years. The fall continued with women's soccer earning its first RMAC Tournament bid. The women's cross country team capped off the fall with a return to the national podium with a third place finish. Into the winter, Randi Yarnell finished the season off as a three-time RMAC Champion, being named the RMAC Swimmer of the Year. Four Mountaineers headed to nationals in wrestling for Miles Van Hee's last trip.

Alicja Konieczek began a tear on the national level, winning two indoor track and field national championships. She would continue on to break the NCAA record in the steeplechase and win two more outdoor national championships. Mountaineer standout Austin Ekeler, the first Harlon Hill Trophy finalist in school history, signed a free-agent deal with Los Angeles Chargers following the conclusion of the NFL Draft.
