Rooted in an All-American lifestyle, the founder, Devin VanderMaas, prides herself on creating effortless yet enduring separates; utopian for a morning meeting while seamlessly transitioning into the ideal look for an evening out. The Designer

C

oming from an old American, mid-west family of craftsmen and entrepreneurs, Devin VanderMaas was taught to sew by her grandmother (Elaine) and write a business plan by her grandfather (George II) and uncle (George II) at an exceptionally young age. It was only natural for her to bridge the gap between art and commerce. After studying business, art and the humanities in college, Devin became interested in telling meaningful stories and celebrating social practices through the art of making clothes. She recently finished her Master’s dissertation on The Democratization of Personal Brands and prior to that, she has written about Style as Communicative Authority. Devin has acquired experience in nearly every facet of the fashion industry from Mood Designer Fabrics to Harper’s Bazaar Magazine and most recently designing private label for specialty retailers in New York City. Devin has received her Master’s degree from Kings College London in Cultural and Creative Industries as well as her BA from New York University in The Psychology of Aesthetics and Fashion Business. She is a member of Fashion Group International.

Georgie & Elaine is proud to be part of the growing design philosophy of ethical fashion. By incorporating non-violent fabrics such as vegan leather and Ahimsa ‘peace’ silk, as well as eco-friendly fabrics such as no-waste novelty fabrics, soy based prints and soy knits, Devin believes sustainability is not simply a trend, it is the future. Through this concerted effort of building a foundation rooted in ethical designs and concious business practices, Devin is please to provide more options of contemporary fashion to a generation who live passionately and care.

Georgie & Elaine has been gaining media attention during their soft launch phase. While designer, Ms. Devin VanderMaas has been featured in Cleveland Magazine and Shop Uniques Magazine, G&E also received coverage on prominent national fashion blogs including Shore Society, Vegan American Princess, The Style Letters (which ended up in RedBook Magazine) and many more. Our goal for 2014-2015 is to continue to build relationships with relevant fashion bloggers as well as gain editorial coverage from prominent magazines in an effort to send a cohesive brand message to our target audience; which consists of primarily 25 - 40 year old, socially / ethically conscious, ambitious American women.

Social Responsibility

Make A Wish Foundation G&E participated in the Fordham University charity fashion show to raise money for the Make A Wish Foundation. G&E donated several items from the spring 2013 collection for auction.

PETA G&E's vegan leather skirts and 'ahimsa' peace silk blouses from the Fall 2014 collection are PETA approved. G&E does not condone animal abuse or cruelty for the sake of fashion.

UTC Unite this City is a community based organization launched with engaging local residents, businesses and charities to work together in order to build and grow sustainable and vibrant communities. G&E lent several items from the Spring 2013 line to the organization for a fashion show where all proceeds would benefit kidnap victims in Cleveland, Ohio.

Five Star Sentation Charity Benefit for the Seidman Cancer Center G&E donated $1,000 in merchandise to be auctioned off. The proceeds directly benefited the Seidman Cancer Center based in Cleveland, Ohio.
