Concept The concept of the animation is to explore childhood to adulthood in a way in which focuses on whether we truly ever grow up?. or why there is a pressure or prejudice of being childlike as an adult. The intention is to form some kind of relatable feelings to the audience with what they may have loved as a kid and still love or what they love now in terms of childlike nature. etc. a film a cartoon a game, a board game, toys, being a collector. Because hobbies and interests make people happy and have a value even as an adult and stay with you forever/make you who you are.

Script Why do we need to grow up? When I was younger I didn’t understand why I couldn’t dress up as Buzz Lightyear and go to the family wedding., I didn’t know that a grown up wedding wasn't a place I could do that., I just wanted to show off what I loved. Now I am older I play a tabletop game called Warhammer which has miniature armies, dice, rules and most importantly escapism into an imaginative world I love., a world where I can be a fantasy character just like when I was a young Buzz. Warhammer helps me realize I don’t need to let go of my inner child. Some people find it childish that I paint miniatures for hours and hours..i think it takes care and skill., which makes it more rewarding for me., its relaxing and makes me feel like I am in control of my own world. I think its BORING to be an adult., why should I conform to a certain adult lifestyle?, what exactly is being an adult anyway?, why cant we just do what makes us happy, creative and take pride in ourselves?, besides does anyone ever grow up really?.

MODELLING-character

Orthographs were used for polygon modelling and keeping smooth and equally spread geometry makes the modelling better. The main character was made in separate parts.

MODELLING-Props

Rigging

The toppers have a spine rig they have controls such as twist, forward and back and also side to side, with a maximum of 30. They all have a global control. This is so the toppers could have more character. The main character has a full body rig with a 2d face rig.

Rigging

The F is the control for the face control and there is a drop down list I created by doing a set driven key this is to select from to change it these are all shapes I did on photoshop that follow a sequence that Maya recognizes: same file name.(number in sequence).tif file so that they all load up correctly.

Rigging

Here you can see the eye control for the pupils they have been limited so the CTRL, pupil cannot go any further past the eye so that they stay in the right place. The layer order of the face textures are really important so they show up correctly and are all connected via the connection editor with nodes.

Face Textures

By using a UV snapshot and taking it into photoshop I had to then make layers organized of each facial expression shape and position them correctly according to the UV. This required creating a layer mask to create a cut out of each part which I then had to use alpha channel delete the previous layer mask and then flatten the image with the one desired matching alpha channel on to get the shape I needed to be able to go in a folder sequence to go in the node plug in on Maya.

BODY TEXTURE UV

When doing the UV texturing it was important to fit each piece with enough room to not encourage a ‘bleed’ and also to make the most of the space, although most of the armor has a shader on some parts are textured like the shoulder pieces. I also learnt about what parts needed to be unfolded and sewn back together for example I needed the iron warriors symbol right in the Centre which required the UV to be correct so it was more accurate when texturing.

Paint Pot Textures I made various labels for the Warhammer/Citadel Paint Pots for various color's. Labels:

Each label had a matt version for the texture as-well to complete the texture.

Topper Textures-CHILD

Topper Textures-Child

These are all textures I did trying to show off the iconic characters I loved/still love growing up and were used for the topper characters which are designed based on wedding toppers/board game figures/meeples. Etc. Hopefully some people can relate to some of the characters.

Topper Textures-ADULT

These are the adult toppers which include the wedding bride, groom and a version of my older/main character as a Warhammer iron warrior and an iron warrior.
