support staff Doug Saylor

Graduate Assistant, Offense Doug Saylor, a native of Newnan, Ga., and graduate of East Coweta HS, was named a graduate assistant for the offense in 2013 after serving a year as an offensive program coordinator. Saylor has been associated with the program since joining the staff as a student assistant in November 2007 working with the offense (mainly receivers) and special teams. He continued his work with the offense over the next four years, serving primarily as the signal caller to the QBs during games. A qualifier for the 2011 Georgia Amateur Golf Championship, Saylor lettered in football, basketball, baseball and golf at ECHS. Saylor also helped East Coweta finish second at the GHSA 5A state golf tournament in 2007. The son of Darrell and Kathy, Saylor graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in Sport Management in December, 2011.

Buddy Collins

Quality Control, Special Teams Buddy Collins, a native of DeLand, Fla., and graduate of DeLand HS, was named to the quality control staff for special teams in 2014, after serving as the program coordinator on defense during the spring of 2013. Collins had served as a Graduate Assistant for defense at Bethune-Cookman since January 2011. In that position, he mainly worked with the defensive line. A 2010 graduate of Mid-America Nazarene University, Collins was a three-year letterwinner on the football team. He helped his team to three NAIA National Playoff appearances and the HAAC Conference Championship game. He graduated in 2010 with a Bachelors degree in Biology. Collins married the former Tennille Bevill in June 2012.

George Helow

Quality Control, Defense George Helow was named quality control assistant on defense for the coaching staff in January before the start of spring practice. Helow comes to Georgia after serving as a graduate assistant for new defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt at Florida State. Helow also served as defensive intern for Pruitt at Alabama in 2012. Under Pruitt, Helow was part of two national championship coaching staffs before coming to UGA. Prior to joining Alabama’s defensive staff, Helow attended Ole Miss, where he earned a spot on the football team as a walk-on from 2006 to 2010. Helow saw action in every game for the Rebels from 2008-10 and earned a scholarship prior to the 2010 campaign. A member of the U.M.A.A. Spring Honor Roll in 2008, Helow graduated from from the Ole Miss in December of 2010 with a degree in marketing. He is the son of Joe and Julie Helow.

Alex Jackson

Quality Control, Offense Alex Jackson, a native of Quincy, Fla., and former offensive lineman for Georgia was hired as a quality control assistant for the offensive coaching staff in early spring of 2014. Most recently, Jackson served three years on the staff at Mississippi Valley State, where he saw time as offensive line coach and offensive coordinator. Prior to joining the Delta Devils, Jackson spent a year as offensive quality control assistant at Arkansas. Jackson also spent time at Langston University where he held the positions of tight ends and tackles coach before moving to co-offensive coordinator. Jackson started 22 games on the offensive line for Georgia during the 2001-02 seasons. He was a member of the 2002 SEC Championship team that set a school record for most victories in a season with 13. This is Jackson’s second stint as a member of the Georgia coaching staff, having served as a student assistant to the offense from 2005 to 2006. Jackson worked primarily with the offensive line and helped the Bulldogs capture the 2005 SEC Championship and two bowl appearances. Jackson returned to the University of Georgia and earned a degree in speech communications in 2006 after a brief professional career with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Jon Richt

Quality Control, Offense Jon Richt, a native of Watkinsville, Ga., was named offensive volunteer quality control assistant for the UGA football team in February 2014. Richt graduated from Prince Avenue Christian School in 2008 where he played quarterback. He played collegiately at Mars Hill (N.C), where he set multiple records for the Lions including 567 completions, 1,109 attempts, 8,169 yards and 69 touchdown passes. Richt was a participant in the Raycom All-Star Classic, an event featuring top seniors of college football competing and being coached by former-NFL head coaches. Prior to joining the Georgia staff, Richt was the quarterback coach at D1 Nashville, a personal training and sports performance facility in Franklin, Tenn. Richt is the son of Mark and Katharyn Richt, and he is married to the former Anna Cearley. He graduated from Mars Hill (N.C.) College with a degree in physical education in spring, 2013.

Andrew Wood

Quality Control, Offense Andrew Wood, a native of Rising Fawn, Ga., was named a quality control offensive assistant for the coaching staff prior to fall camp in July of 2013. Most recently, Wood served as a volunteer coach at Ridgeland High School in Rossville, Ga., during the 2012 season. At Ridgeland, he primarily coached quarterbacks and defensive backs. During Wood’s year at Ridgeland, the Panthers compiled a 13-2 record en route to the Georgia High School Association AAAA State Championship Final. Wood is in his second stint at Georgia after completing his undergraduate degree in 2012 in psychology. Wood returns to Athens as a graduate student seeking a master’s degree in sport management.
