2015 Game Summaries
Georgia 23, Georgia Southern 17 (OT)
Georgia 13, Georgia Tech 7
Nov. 21, 2015 • Sanford Stadium - Athens, Ga.
Nov. 28, 2015 • Bobby Dodd Stadium - Atlanta, Ga.
• Sophomore running back Sony Michel ran untouched for a 25-yard touchdown on Georgia’s first play of overtime to give UGA a narrow victory over Georgia Southern in Sanford Stadium. • After going 18 seasons without an overtime game at Sanford Stadium, Georgia has now played two in successive years. Bulldog teams are now 7-5 in overtime games, including 1-1 in their own stadium. • The Eagles entered the game leading the nation in rushing offense, with a per-game average of 278.9 yards. Georgia’s defense held Southern to 233 yards on 53 carries and, most important, stopped it on its last drive in regulation time. GSU took possession on its own 37 with 2:48 left and reached the Georgia 40-yard line before stalling and punting with 33 seconds left. • The Bulldog defense met its final challenge, too, when it stopped Southern on downs in its only overtime possession. Leonard Floyd (twice) and Jordan Jenkins (on fourth down) contributed tackles for lost yardage. • Senior C Hunter Long started for the first time this season. Junior Brandon Kublanow moved over to RG after starting the first 10 games of the season at C. • Uga X, known affectionately as “Que,” officially assumed the role as the Bulldogs’ mascot during a pregame ceremony. The transition was made when the collar was taken off of Uga IX, known as “Russ,” and switched to Uga X. Uga IX finished with a record of 44-19 (ending with the 2014 season).
• Georgia’s defense shut down Georgia Tech for over 56 minutes and the Bulldogs forged just enough offense to post a hard-fought victory in the two rivals’ annual meeting. • Sony Michel, who got Georgia on the board with a touchdown run on its first possession, became the 13th Bulldog to hit the 1,000-yard mark in a single season. He finished the day with 24 carries and 149 yards as well as a touchdown. • Sophomore Dominick Sanders set a school record for interception return yards in a season after his team-leading fifth pick. His 22-yard return gave him 205 yards for the year, breaking the previous mark of 189 by Eli Maricich in 1948 on eight INTs. Sanders eventually got his ninth career interception, his sixth for the season, in Georgia’s Taxslayer Bowl win over Penn State. • Freshman Terry Godwin compiled eight catches for 78 yards, both career highs. His previous career high was six catches for 78 yards in the win over Missouri on Oct. 17. • Freshman inside linebacker Natrez Patrick made his first career start. He became the 22nd first-time starter this year. He was credited with a careerhigh four tackles, one sack and 2 TFL • For the first time this season, Georgia’s defense pitched a shutout in the first half, and it was the first time that Tech has been shut out through the first two periods. Overall, Tech was held to a season-low 7 points today and had just 194 yards on the ground after averaging 31 points/game and 261 rushing yards/game.
