Pam Gauld Administrative Secretary Pam Gauld joined the University of Georgia Athletic Association in May of 2004 as the administrative secretary in the men’s basketball office. Prior to joining UGA, Gauld was an Administrative Secretary for Oconee County Schools. She is also active in her community and is especially proud of her volunteer work with The UGA Catholic Center 5K Human Race and Relay for Life. Gauld currently serves on the Athletic Association’s Professional Support Staff. In that role she coordinates monthly volunteers that service the Athens Emergency Food Bank. Gauld and her husband John have lived in the Athens area since 1997. They have three children: Patrick, a UGA alumnus working in Chicago; Andrea, a 4th-year doctoral pharmacy major at Mercer University in Atlanta; and Emily, a senior Music/German major at UGA.

Tim Hix

Associate Director Sports Communications Tim Hix begins his 15th season as Associate Director of Sports Communications, also his 15th as the primary information contact for men’s basketball. In addition to his duties with the basketball team, Hix is also the school’s primary information contact for its

Equestrian program. He also supervises operation of the press box staff at all UGA home football games. From 1984 until 1995, Hix served first as Assistant SID and later as Senior Assistant. He handled all publicity for the nationallysuccessful women’s basketball program, as well as a number of other Bulldog and Lady Bulldog sports, including track & field, golf and swimming. During the 1996 Olympics, Hix worked as the Press Chief at the rhythmic gymnastics competition in the Coliseum and assisted the Press Chief during the early-round volleyball matches. Hix has authored a pair of books, “Hoop Tales” and “Stadium Stories,” both depicting the greatest players, coaches and seasons in the history of Georgia basketball and football. Hix completed his B.S. Degree in Journalism at the University of Tennessee in 1984. During his undergraduate days he worked four years as a student assistant in the UT sports information office. Hix has a son,14-year-old Grant.

Georgia Basketball

Academic Counselor Cory Kopaniasz joined the Athletic Association in January of 1999 and became a full-time employee in July of 2000 as a member of the academic counseling staff. He had served as the academic center’s intern and graduate assistant before taking over full-time duties. Kopaniasz is in his second stint as head academic counselor for the men’s basketball team, having previously worked in the same capacity during the 2001-03 seasons. He also currently advises the baseball and gymnastics teams and he has previously worked with both Georgia tennis teams, both swimming programs, as well as the football squad. As the team’s counselor, Kopaniasz assists the Bulldogs in a variety of academic issues, including classroom performance, progression toward degrees, arranging of tutors and mentors, and the improvement of their study skills and strategies. Because of his father’s employment for NATO, Kopaniasz lived for a short time in Brussels, Belgium, where he graduated from Brussels American High School. He received his bachelor’s degree in Economics from UGA in 2000, and two years later, he earned his Master’s degree in Sport Studies from Georgia. Kopaniasz served as Associate Director for Academic Support at the University of Mississippi from January until June of 2008 before returning to his alma mater. Kopaniasz is married to the former Candace Waters of Watkinsville, Ga., and they have one son, 7-year-old Caden.

Mike Schweigert Strength & Conditioning Mike Schweigert is in his fourth full year as Georgia’s strength and conditioning coach. He was hired in 2005 as a graduate assistant strength coach for the Bulldogs’ Olympic sports teams, and he was promoted to full-time status in January 2006. He currently works with the Georgia basketball team, as well as the women’s volleyball and track & field teams. He will finish his master’s degree at UGA in December 2009. A native of the suburban Chicago town of Niles, Ill., Schweigert is a 2003 graduate of Indiana University. While earning his bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, with an emphasis as a Fitness Specialist, he served an internship in the Hoosiers’ athletic department. He worked directly with IU’s men’s basketball, volleyball and track & field teams. Upon graduation from Indiana, Schweigert returned close to home for eight months as a strength & conditioning intern with the Chicago Bulls basketball club, where he worked with former head strength coach Al Vermeil and current coach Erik Helland. In August of 2004, he left the Bulls to become a strength & conditioning graduate assistant at Northern Illinois University. While in DeKalb, Schweigert supervised the training of several Huskie sports, including soccer, men’s & women’s tennis, as well as men’s & women’s golf.
