Cory Kopaniasz joined the Athletic Association in January of 1999 and became a full-time employee in July of 2000 as a member of the academic counseling staff. He had served as the academic center’s intern and graduate assistant before taking over full-time duties.

STAFF STAFF

Sean Hayes joined the Athletic Association in August of 2010 as Assistant Strength & Conditioning Director. In that capacity, he oversees all aspects of the Bulldogs’ strength and conditioning program, and he also works with the Georgia volleyball and women’s golf programs. Hayes came to Georgia after four seasons in a similar capacity with the Buffalo Bills of the NFL. Before his tenure in pro football, he had spent over a decade in college athletics. Kopaniasz is in his second stint as head academic counselor for the men’s basketball team, having previously worked in the same capacity during the 2001-03 seasons. He also currently advises the women’s basketball team and he has previously worked with both Georgia tennis teams, both swimming programs, baseball, gymnastics, as well as the football squad. As the team’s counselor, Kopaniasz assists the Bulldogs in a variety of academic issues, including classroom performance, progression toward degrees, arranging of tutors and mentors, and the improvement of their study skills and strategies. Because of his father’s employment for NATO, Kopaniasz lived for a short time in Brussels, Belgium, where he graduated from Brussels American High School. He received his bachelor’s degree in Economics from UGA in 2000, and two years later, he earned his Master’s degree in Sport Studies from Georgia. Kopaniasz served as Associate Director for Academic Support at the University of Mississippi from January until June of 2008 before returning to his alma mater. Kopaniasz is married to the former Candace Waters of Watkinsville, Ga., and they have one son, 9-year-old Caden.

conditioning coach for the Clemson University basketball team from 2004-2006. For over two years (2002-04) Hayes was the Director of Strength and Conditioning for the entire 41-sport program at Harvard University, with concentrated work for the Crimson’s football team, both basketball teams, as well as both ice hockey squads. His other collegiate stops included the University of Tulsa, his alma mater Springfield College, Yale University and Boston University. Hayes earned his Bachelor of Science degree in health fitness from Springfield College in 1996, then completed a Master of Education in Applied Exercise Science from Springfield in 1999. Hayes is married to the former Susanne Esteban, and the couple has two daughters Kaylie (8) and Ella (5).
