FREtt MEREditH Georgia ’97
La’Keshia Frett Meredith, the 1993 National Prep Player of the Year, a fourtime All-SEC performer for Georgia and seven-year standout in the WNBA, joined the Lady Bulldog Basketball staff as an assistant coach in October 2005. Frett Meredith enjoyed remarkable success at each of the aforementioned levels. She became the nation’s most coveted prep prospect before leading Georgia to back-to-back Final Four appearances and consecutive SEC titles. Within the professional ranks, Frett’s teams advanced to the WNBA playoffs in six of her seven seasons in the league. headlined one of the most celebrated recruiting classes in women’s hoops history. While at Georgia, Frett was the 1994 SEC Freshman of the Year and was named All-SEC by league coaches each of her four years, earning first-team recognition as a sophomore, junior and senior. She was a Naismith All-America pick as a junior and earned All-America recognition from Naismith, the U.S. Basketball Writers Association and the Associated Press (third team) as a senior in 1997. All told, Frett helped lead Georgia to a combined 98-27 (.784) record from 1993-97. “Frett” is still a frequent name within the Georgia records section of this Media Guide. in scoring (1,980) and No. 9 in rebounds (842) among careeer leaders. In 1997, Frett was a first-round draft pick in the ABL. In fact, Frett and classmates Kedra Holland-Corn and Tracy Henderson were three of the top-15 overall picks in the 1997 ABL Draft. After two seasons with the ABL’s Philadelphia Rage, Frett was drafted by the Los Angeles Sparks. Over the next seven summers, she played for the Sparks (1999-00), Sacramento (2001-03), Charlotte (2004) and New York (2004-05). All but one of the teams reached the playoffs. Frett received her degree in consumer economics from UGA in 1997. In August 2009, La’Keshia married Dion Meredith, a City of Atlanta policeman.
