FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 19 CHSS Fifth Annual Distinguished Alumni Reception 5 to 7 p.m. Johnson Center, George’s Restaurant By invitation only Every year, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences recognizes a distinguished alumnus from each of its academic departments. These alumni are selected based on professional accomplishments in their field; service and contributions to their department, their college, and the university; philanthropic activities; and enhancement of alumni and community engagement at Mason.

Mason Alumni at The Park 5 to 10 p.m. The Park at Fourteenth 920 14th Street NW, Washington, D.C. Cost: $10 The Black Alumni Chapter will kick off Alumni Weekend with a fund-raising event at The Park at Fourteenth with great socializing and good Ole Skool mix music. The Park, among the best nightclubs in Washington, D.C., with its amazing food and drinks (available for purchase), will make for an exciting Mason event on the third floor. Everyone 21 and over is welcome. Happy hour specials run from 5 to 7 p.m., and entry by 8 p.m. is required. You must register by noon, September 19. Register at alumniweekend.gmu.edu. | 1


Alumni Shabbat 5:45 to 8 p.m. Location: Johnson Center, Ground floor, Gold Room Cost: $10; Free to children under 12 Mason Hillel invites our Jewish alumni, families, and friends to join us for our weekly ritual of sharing stories and celebrating our tradition, while eating great food. Friday night Shabbat dinners are the highlight of the week for Mason’s Jewish student community, and we want to share it with you. Meet our new Israel Fellow, Yakir Daniel, who works with students to engage them in Jewish life and learning, and with Israel.

Annual Business Alumni Celebration 6 to 9:30 p.m. Sheraton Premiere at Tysons Corner Tysons Corner, Virginia Cost: $125 The School of Business invites its alumni and friends to the annual Business Alumni Celebration. With a history of attracting our most prestigious alumni, we hope you will join the group for a night of reconnecting with friends, faculty, and staff over dinner and drinks as we celebrate the accomplishments of the School of Business and its alumni.

What a Drag! The Second Annual Alumni Weekend Drag Show 8 to 10 p.m. Johnson Center Bistro Cost: $5 Ever seen a drag show? Well, you’ve never seen one like Mason’s! Come dance and sing along to some of your favorite songs, while you watch fellow alumni perform as drag queens and kings. Hosted by D.C.’s own Ophelia Bottoms, this show is not to be missed.

An Evening under the Stars 8:30 p.m. Research Hall, Observatory Cost: $5 Come visit the College of Science’s observatory for a tour and viewing of the night sky through our 0.8-meter telescope (weather permitting). See stars, planets, galaxies, and more.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 20 CEHD Alumni Coffee and Alumni Council Meet-Up 9 to 11 a.m. Hampton Roads Residence Hall/ The Pilot House Cost: $5 Join Dean Mark Ginsberg and your favorite College of Education and Human Development faculty and staff for coffee and networking, as we kick off our inaugural Alumni Council Meeting.

The Fairfax Campus Turns 50 This Fall 10 to 11 a.m. Fenwick Library, Conference Room A-202 Cost: $5 So, you have walked the grounds of the Fairfax Campus for years and think you know the campus like the back of your hand. Have you ever wondered how Mason got here in the first place? What was the first day of school in Fairfax like? If you are a Mason trivia junkie and have even the slightest bit of curiosity regarding these and many other burning questions, join the University Libraries team for coffee, conversation, and light refreshments. We Want You! The Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Office of Alumni Relations are looking to expand the Mason Admissions Volunteer Network program. As a Mason alumnus with a range of experiences, you are uniquely suited for this exciting opportunity!
