Esther Bussink's message is clear:
“Come to Veenendaal on October 28, wear your sports clothes, bring your boxing gloves and let's move together to feel better. I challenge you to join us. Let's prove together that exercise can be a medicine for people with Parkinson's.”
Esther Bussink is a 57-year-old woman who received her Parkinson's diagnosis four years ago on July 16, 2019. Her Parkinson's symptoms actually began much earlier.
"I had problems on my left side since 2011/2012, and I thought it was due to my car accident just before that", Esther says. "Getting up, writing, cutting, dressing, turning, even doing the dishes - everything took more and more time. I was getting slower. My symptoms were concentrated in my shoulders, neck and back, and though they were vague, they were definitely there. I went to the neurologist till up to five times, but they couldn't find anything."
In the summer of 2019, Esther reached a low point. She couldnot write anymore and her thinking seemed to disappear. She sat apathetically in her chair, wondering why she felt this way.

Fortunately, her GP referred her to a neurologist at St. Antonius Hospital, who immediately suspected Parkinson's. “He gave me a prescription for medication and it worked and I felt like the 'old Essie' again. My energy returned, I could do everything again, and the fatigue disappeared."
The neurologist advised Esther not to drink alcohol, and to exercise every day, including intensive training three times a week. She was already a member of Van der Velde Sports School in Veenendaal and exercised there regularly. But now she started exercising even more, including aerobics, boxing, high-intensity interval training (HIIT), spinning and yoga. "If I exercise less for a day, I notice this immediately," says Esther. Despite the occasional dips between medication doses, Esther remains positive and full of energy. “For me the glass is always half full,” she says with a smile. “I get the most out of life, even when I didn't know I had Parkinson's. I am super positive and love to share that positivity with others.”
Esther is closely involved in the "Sports as Medicine" initiative that will take place on October 28, 2023 at Sport School Van der Velde in Veenendaal. "It's an afternoon to discover different sports and enjoy together," she says enthusiastically. “We want to give people the opportunity to experience how exercise can change their lives.”

The anniversary was celebrated with a festive gathering, decorated with balloons and streamers, and there was delicious cake to enjoy.
In addition, 3 fascinating workshops were offered:
1. Positive health
2. Work and income, presented by UwVerzuimRegisseur
3. Assistive devices / Cue2walk
It all began 6 years ago when Danny Geldtmeijer and Marc Smulders met during an event organized by Simone Rensen, young Parkinson's inn in Helmond. During their conversations along the way, the idea of organising meetings for young people with Parkinson's in their own region emerged. Thus, Yoppers West Brabant was born. Over the years, a new working group formed, and together they set a positive course for the future.
If you'd like to attend a Yoppers Café West Brabant meeting sometime: the next one is scheduled for December 9th!

Do you already know Shaky Radio?
John Scotter: “I now own and run Shaky Radio which helps others with Parkinson's and spreads the awareness of the disease. We have listeners and visitors to our websites from all over the world.
My thoughts are that if just one person in the world gets some info or comfort from it. Then it's all worth it. “
On shaky radio you can find a lot of information about Parkinson's, listen to music on the radio via the website 24 hours a day, listen to a podcast, even watch Parkinson's videos and you can find videos for exercise. Els responds to her TV appearance on Op1 and Hart van Nederland Els Haring
Els's response: "To my surprise, on Tuesday, September 19th, I received a phone call asking if I wanted to come on the program 'Hart van Nederland' to tell my story about living with Parkinson and the period when I peeled tulip bulbs in the northern part of Holland for six consecutive years. Of course, I didn't have to think twice about it. I see it as my mission to make the connection between pesticides and Parkinson's visible. On Thursday, September 21st, they came to our home for the interview."
"On Wednesday morning, September 20th, I received another call, asking if I wanted to tell my story on NPO1. That was quite a challenge, as it was a live broadcast at 22:45 on the same evening. Phew, take a deep breath and go for it! My Kees manager and I were even picked up and dropped off by a taxi. I was pleasantly surprised to see that Bas and Robin were there too; we've known each other for a while."

“I was able to tell my story in both broadcasts and what touched me most is that so many young people are affected by Parkinson's. I myself am probably approx Got infected 50 years ago. It may not have been known at the time what the consequences would be for health, but now, with the knowledge that this pesticide is really very dangerous, the decision is made to place economic interests above public health. I find this worrying and sad, and I will continue to promote my mission wherever and whenever. “
Be sure to watch the Zembla broadcast for clarification. Zembla: “The Dutch court recently reached a remarkable decision: a bulb grower in Boterveen in Drenthe must stop using pesticides. The case was brought by concerned residents who fear for their health...” www.wendysparkinson.com

And then one day something happens. You are young and busy with work, family, friends, planning fun things.
And then you first feel pain in your wrist. It goes away after 24 hours. But then the tremors remain.
Well, it will go away. But no, it won't go away. What could it be? Go to the doctor anyway.
And then it eventually turns out that you have Parkinson's disease. Then you stand there as a mother of 2 children aged 8 and 9. That turns your life upside down. And what does the future hold for me?
Well, let's make the best of it. As long as it goes, it goes
And so it is now 6 years later and I have my own magazine. Who would have thought that possible?

But I am not the only one who is young and hears about this disease.
Today, young people hear this every day. People who still want to have children or who also have young children. Or a career that they had planned for themselves. How long will this be possible?
Or this doesn't work at all anymore
You don't have Parkinson's alone. Your partner, your children, your family, your friends. They all got affected by it
We are all trying to do our part to stop this disease for God's sake.
I hope this message gets through now. It is a disease you don't want to have. But you have no choice.
The people who have to vote against glyphosate do have a choice.
A choice that concerns our health.
You don't want this disease, do you?
We want to make the world better instead of sicker, right?

How can one still use this product?
All life in the ground dies, but not only that, many people also become ill. Stop this misery
That would be quite a relief. And I can continue on my mission.
Inspire people to remain positive in life. Continue to enjoy the things we can still do. To continue to do everything that will keep us feeling better for a long time.
Parkinson's is not just anything You take medication but it only helps to s uppress the symptoms
So you have to find other natural ways that help you Yes that is exercise, but that becomes difficult if you break your leg

And I firmly believe in doing something that is good for you and that gives you appreciation. Doing something based on your passion. You cannot describe it. It is deep inside you that gives you that joy. The bond with other people. The connecting conversations with fellow sufferers.
For me, making something creative on the computer i s great every time. I say every time
Oh, look what I made this time.
And then organize an event for my fellow sufferers. What appreciation and what an indescribably beautiful day. The sun couldn't stay away from seeing all this beauty. Keep seeing the Silver Lining. In this way we can make each other stronger. Be there for each other. And make the best of it.

Wendy: “I received my Parkinson's diagnosis in May 2017. It is so special to share the stories of people with Parkinson's in a magazine that everyone can read. It provides positivity, connection, advice and it shows the possibilities of what you can still do. It is an eye-opener for newly diagnosed patients. And a good way to get to know other people living with this disease and how they deal with specific symptoms. You can find the complete stories in the magazine. What do they do in life to stay positive, what makes them happy and what advice does the person have for you. Stories that can inspire you to do things differently, but also strengthen the feeling among each other to be there for each other. A magazine where we can stand up for each other and connect. Share the stories with each other, feel connected and getting more understanding.” www.wendysparkinson.com
