The Glen Breeze SPRING 2025

Cherishing the Past
Nurturing the Present
Seeding the Future
Nurturing the Present
Seeding the Future
We’re filled with excitement and anticipation for what’s ahead at Geneva Glen as we prepare for another unforgettable summer. We’re thrilled to welcome back old friends and equally excited to introduce new faces who will experience the Magic of the Glen for the first time. And while the world outside may seem uncertain, one thing remains true: camp will always be a place of stability, growth, and joy.
Coming into this year, we’re reminded of the “basics” that have made Geneva Glen special for over a century—fun, character, and friendships. These timeless principles continue to guide us as we hire and train our counselors, improve our programs, and update our facilities. No need to complicate things—let’s keep GG a place where our campers can genuinely be themselves, safe and free to grow!
Our commitment to every camper’s complete development is at the heart of what we do. Camp offers something special—an opportunity to unplug, find peace in nature, and explore what makes each of us unique. It’s a place where campers aren’t just learning skills; they’re learning life lessons that will stay with them long after the summer ends. Whether it’s stepping out of your comfort zone to try a new activity, facing a challenge with your friends by your side, or discovering what it means to be part of an awesome community, these moments stick with you long after camp ends. So, campers, get ready for an epic time with new friends and moments that will have a life long impact.
Also this summer, we are planting seeds for the future and evolving in new ways, and we’re thrilled to share updates that showcase our ongoing development! Our outreach is expanding to welcome more new and returning campers, with increased tuition assistance to ensure better accessibility. We’re prioritizing both the preservation of our land and forests and upgrading our facilities—from enhancing buildings to improving outdoor program areas—ensuring a safe, welcoming, and inspiring environment. We’re introducing fresh ideas, especially in well-being, to align with the evolving needs of children. This holistic approach to quality improvement encompasses every facet of GG: the community, the land, and the program.
Enjoy this edition of the Spring Breeze and remember that as we continue to grow and evolve, we remain rooted in resilience—ensuring that Geneva Glen is a place where generations of campers, staff, and alumni can thrive and create lasting memories. We can’t wait to share the magic of camp with you this summer!
On the Upward Trail,
Executive Directors, Geneva Glen Camp
Woof! Hey there, future campers! It’s your favorite pups, Gus and Maisie, here to give you the scoop on all the paw-some things you’ll get to do at Geneva Glen this summer! We’ve been sniffing around and can’t wait to tell you about the super-duper adventures that await you!
First things first, you can’t do these things at home—trust us, we tried. Magical creatures? Yep, we’re talking about those! Whether it’s spotting a gnome or fairy (shhh, don’t tell anyone) or hiking through our enchanted woods, GG has some seriously magical spots. We’ve even seen a baby bobcat this winter—how cool is that?!
And if you’re into Ropes (not the chew toys we get), you’re in for a high-flying treat! Get ready to swing, climb, and scale all sorts of fun obstacles. Plus, there’s Archery, where you can shoot arrows like a superhero (or a dog-hero, which is the best kind of hero). Did someone say Horses? While we can’t ride them (we’re not quite tall enough), we sure love to watch campers ride and bond with these big, beautiful animals.
Speaking of bonding, camp is ALL about friendships—new buddies who will stick with you through thick and thin, just like us pups! Whether you’re joining a skit, playing dodgeball, or sliding into the swimming pool, GG is the perfect place to make pals and have LOTS of laughs. Oh, and don’t even get us started on the new Frisbee golf course! It’s coming together and looks like a blast. We might even join in with our paws, just to make it even more fun.
But hey, we know it’s totally normal to feel a little nervous or miss home. It happens to us too! But guess what? We’re all in this together! The counselors are super-duper caring and friendly— they were once first-time campers too, so they know what it’s like. Whether you need a high-five, a friendly chat, or a buddy for your first hike, we’ve got your back.
And did we mention the snacks?! Our chef friends, Les and Heather from Craven Station, are cooking up some tasty treats that’ll make your tail wag! And don’t worry, there’s room for everyone in the cabins—yup, we’re building even more beds to squeeze in as many campers as we can!
This spring, we’ve been watching all the fun changes getting ready for the summer—the new “Alpenglow Cottage” across from the Lodge, landscaping around North Hill, trails getting re-done (thanks, Pendragons!), and even a rebuilt Oh Mama Giant Swing! Camp looks better than ever, and we’re so excited for you to come and check it out!
So get ready for a tail-waggin’ good time. We can’t wait to meet you and show you all the wonders of Geneva Glen!
See you soon,
Executive Dogs, Geneva Glen Camp
It takes a lot to put together a high-quality summer camp experience. Luckily, here at GG we have all we need to build a successful and sturdy summer. Check out our functional, versitile, and chic staff returning this year!

The May Work day is a favorite annual tradition. The Pendragon Society, GG’s beloved volunteer force, helps to make the camp world go ‘round. Anyone can join the Pendragons Society, and the May Work Day is a great way to start! We wake up the buildings, and make everything spick, span, and ready to receive the staff and kids. It’s an extravaganza of sweeping, stocking, decorating, planting, dusting, and more.
All are welcome to come as work days are planned for all skill levels. Volunteers under 16 must have a parent present. Lunch will be provided!
Reach out to emily@genevaglen.org to RSVP or to be added to the Pendragon mailing list!

The Pendragons are a group of volunteers at GG who assist with stewardship of camp facilities and property. The group provides service in helping to keep camp maintained and is a significant source of labor that would otherwise need to be hired.
All are welcome to come and work days are planned for all skill levels. Participation does not require attendance at all work days, come when you can! For more information visit: www.genevaglen.org/pendragons
From fresh trails to magical huts, it’s been a busy off-season at Geneva Glen! We’re excited to share a few of the updates some big, some small all made with love, a lot of sweat, and the hope of making camp even more welcoming, functional, and fun!
One of the biggest projects this year has been the transformation of the CRC/Tumes a space that’s worn many hats over the decades: office, crafts cabin, costume closet, staff hangout... it’s finally getting its moment to shine! We’re proud to introduce the Jeanie Albright Lowry Alpenglow Cottage, a refreshed and cozy home base for our seasonal staff. Complete with two private rooms for rest or work and a big, comfy communal area; this space will be a welcome retreat during the hustle and bustle of summer.
We’re also delighted to welcome the Alchemy program into its brand-new home inside the cottage. It’s a significant upgrade from its previous location, the old shed next to Wellhouse #3—also home to a few too many curious camp critters. The new space offers improved storage and room to grow, especially with fun new programming for our youngest Seedlings & Stardust and Myths & Magic campers.
With the Alpenglow Cottage no longer serving as the costume room, our beloved collection of capes, crowns, and curious wigs is being relocated to a brand-new shed near the Council Ring. We hope this handy new location makes it easier to return costumes after our curiously-themed Council Fires! (fingers crossed!).
This spring, Dorms G, B, and H got some much-needed TLC with a beautiful new stone patio, walkways, and seating areas. The fresh landscaping doesn’t just look good it also helps with drainage and gives campers more space to hang out. Knighthood attachment talks just got a major upgrade, and rumor has it the new patio outside Dorm H is already the envy of the hill.
Our resident hobbit and magical creature expert, Umlaut Took, is moving into a brand-new home: a shire-style Hobbit Hut with rounded doors and cozy nooks just the right size for our youngest campers. He’s even agreed to share his new digs with the Magicology program this summer what a guy!
Our dirt-whispering friend, Joe Walton, has been hard at work upgrading the Sky View Trail and Wildflower Lane— two key paths that lead to the Shrine and the Outlook. These improvements will reduce erosion and improve access, especially as we open up trails to the GGIII Forestry Project zone.
If Geneva Glen is good at one thing, it’s inspiring great conversations. That’s why we’ve been on a bench-building spree! Look for new spots to sit and chat across camp, from built-in benches at Bears Corner, to elegant teak benches in the Centennial Brick Garden, to fresh seating at the Ron Williamson Sound Garden, Treehouse, and more. Wherever you’re headed, there’s a place to pause and soak it all in.
Thanks to the help of our friend Sonny Adkins from Camp Shady Brook, our ropes course got a serious tune-up. The Zipline is zippier; the Giant’s Ladder now features a winch system to make setup and takedown smoother, and best of all… Oh Mama is BACK! Named after the legendary moment when longtime former Director and camp legend Ken Atkinson took one look at the valley, soared on the swing, and shouted “Oh Mama!” at the top of his lungs. This fan favorite is ready to launch campers skyward again this summer!
Finally, a shoutout to Alum and Board Member Jacob Hartung, who helped coordinate new roofs for Ashgrove and Mackenzie. It’s not flashy work, but it is critical to keeping camp comfortable, dry, and looking sharp.
Alums will be glad to hear we’re continuing to spruce up the Outlook House with new siding, windows, doors, and deck repairs. It remains a reliable backup spot for rainy overnights, and we’re looking ahead to other creative uses, especially with the new GGIII Forestry Project area opening up nearby this summer.
More than just buildings and trails, these updates reflect our continued investment in the legacy and story of Geneva Glen. Whether you’re returning this summer, sending your kids, or reminiscing from afar, we can’t wait for you to see what’s new at the Glen.
We are bear-y proud of these recent GG Graduates!

As the pages of generations turn in the camp memory book, we lament the passing of friends. We gratefully acknowledge the lives touched by Geneva Glen as well as the individual character etched into the substance of our heritage. We will miss these members of our GG Camp Family.

Carol Duvall, who served as co-director of Geneva Glen Camp alongside her husband Bob in the 1970s, played a pivotal role during a formative chapter in the camp’s history. As the second pair of directors following Harold and Iris Gilmore, Bob and Carol were a bridge between generations, leading with resilience and a commitment to the camp’s spirit at a time when the Director of GG was not even a full-time job. As described by their son Jim, “They both had a dream to someday be in a situation where they could teach and help develop young adults and children.”
In the wake of the devastating 1973 fire that destroyed the Lodge, Carol was at the forefront of the effort to keep camp running. She and Bob fought to ensure Geneva Glen remained open that summer, even as some advocated for closure. It was Carol who oversaw the kitchen’s temporary relocation to the Chapel and helped launch a preschool program whose proceeds supported the construction of a brand-new Lodge.
Carol’s contributions were both practical and profound. She was instrumental in the sale of the “Outpost” (known now as the Outlook and Carosella House) to fund the new Lodge, and she led hiring efforts with an inclusive spirit that brought in several staff members who might not have been afforded that opportunity in that day and age. Her warmth and care left lasting impressions on campers and staff alike, especially on those far from home, who remembered her quiet support and steady presence. Though much of her work happened behind the scenes, Carol’s legacy lives on in the enduring values, infrastructure, and spirit of Geneva Glen. “The camp was their dream fulfilled and truly their Camelot.” We remember her with reverence and deep gratitude.
