The comic piece titled, ‘Speak Up’, is inspired by the reflections of the nuances of my Vietnamese-Australian identity navigating through my childhood. When I was young I always believed that we should talk only when spoken to or asked to. I believed this way of living until high school. My perspective shifted when I saw other Vietnamese-Australians on Youtube such as Natalie Tran or Mychonny. I felt that we had a voice and opinion in the world. By seeing representation online, this inspired me to be confident to take up space online and in real life to say what I want!
