Committed to Collaboration
Turner’s philosophy is to work tirelessly to help your team deliver a successful project. As your committed partner, we promise teamwork, integrity and collaboration. Our professional staff are fully committed leaders who bring results. We constantly challenge ourselves to maintain a deep understanding of our clients’ goals and objectives of design, flexibility, and efficiency.
Communication
It is communication, integrity, teamwork, and a fully committed leadership that bring great results, and we challenge ourselves to do what is best for the project and not necessarily what is easiest for construction. With collaborative and motivated teams, we will achieve success for our clients and the patients who are served with results that exceed expectations.
Leveraging Our Experience
Our National Healthcare Group will bring ideas to positively impact the environment of your facility as it relates to infection rates, increasing HCAHPS and satisfaction scores, and encouraging the most efficient work flow for your FTEs resulting in a better performing facility. Ideas we have implemented include patient light fixtures that kill bacteria, antimicrobial hardware, fixtures, and curtains, and clinical process and flow studies that will allow more time for staff to spend with patents. We will help the team evaluate choices that can greatly impact the life cycle costs of your facility that lowers energy cost.
Peer Review Teams
We assemble specific national peer review teams for each project which compliments the local team by sharing best practices and lessons learned, trends in healthcare and construction, constructability reviews, materials and systems studies, and valuable ideas for process flow, patient and staff satisfaction, and building performance.
Turner T-Cost Modeling™
We offer our powerful, interactive cost modeling tool developed from Turner’s vast historical project database used to prepare conceptual budget with immediate feedback of short-term costs and long-term operational consequences of equipment and materials selected. T-Cost Modeling also provides annual energy consumption based on design parameters.
Long Term Cost of Ownership
We provide resources for considering first cost as well as maintenance, repair, replacement and energy costs for materials and systems over the lifetime of the project. We reduces investment risk by projecting a more complete picture of the future.
Integrated Project Delivery
This collaborative approach allows for open and honest communication between all team members and has proven to reduce costs and add value for our clients.

Mitigating Risks On Your Campus
Innovative ILSM, ICRA & risk mitigation measures
The paramount concern for construction at an active healthcare facility is the health and safety of patients, visitors, staff, and workers throughout construction. Understanding and evaluating the Infection Control and Interim Life Safety concerns should be an integral part of the preconstruction and construction phases of the project. Evaluating the impacted areas, risks, and control measures to implement will be an ongoing process throughout each project and early involvement of the infection control practitioner will be paramount to success.
Understanding the daily operations of the facilities, the sensitive nature of each department, and the ICRA policies set forth by the facility, are key to successfully implementing a project plan. Turner’s highly-experienced and knowledgeable team has over 30 years of combined experiencing working in and renovating active healthcare facilities. Through countless successfully completed projects, Turner has gained a reputation as having the ability to complete the most difficult and sensitive projects while remaining virtually invisible within the facility. Turner’s knowledge of how to successfully phase a project, implement infection control measures, and efficiently complete the scope of work will be invaluable to your project’s success.
For each area of construction, the Turner team can use their expertise to assist in the evaluation of risks and appropriate controls to implement including:
Temporary Walls – To ensure separation of construction areas from active facility spaces
Rolling ICRA Carts – Utilized in highly sensitive and critical areas (ICU, OR, NICU, etc.)
Pedestrian Barricades, Tunnels, Fencing & other Routing Controls – Ensures separation of construction areas for safety and better flow of staff and patients
HEPA Filtration Units & Modifications to HVAC Systems – To achieve appropriate conditions within construction space (i.e. isolation, negative pressure)
Monitoring – To include negative pressure, sound/ noise, vibration, dust levels, etc.
Inspections & Documentation – Regularly conducted
ICRA & ILSM inspections by Turner, Facilities, and the infection control practitioner
Material Handling, Trash Removal & Storage Solutions
– To ensure adaptability, eliminate obstructions, minimize impacted areas to site

Safety

Our
top priority is to maintain the integrity of your facility and the safety of your staff, patients, and families.
Environmental, Health, & Safety (EH&S)
We are committed to safety, active caring, and improvement
Building L.I.F.E.TM
Safety is our first priority. Across all of our project sites, in our offices, and throughout our daily lives, safety shapes who we are as construction professionals. And under no circumstances will safety ever be compromised. We continuously improve and manage risks through best practices, guidelines, and policies. This ensures our safety standards align with on-site operations, reinforcing safety for all field and project staff.
Our Building L.I.F.E.™ (Living Injury Free Everyday) program fosters a holistic safety system that includes those closest to risks in decision-making. It promotes mutual support between management and staff and drives continuous improvement in every work process for world-class safety performance.
Active Caring
We strive to transform our company into an environment of active caring, where we take care of each other with the same consideration and concern as we would our own families to ensure the safety and well-being of all people on our sites. We believe this collective shift in both mindset and behavior will lead us to an environment absent of harm where people can be their very best selves.

A Culture of Continuous Improvement
We have built our reputation around the principles of lean, which maximizes customer value by eliminating waste through continuous improvement and respect for people. All of our projects utilize lean to the fullest extent possible.
We use the latest technologies and implement lean construction techniques. We are focused on the growth of best practices and leveraging the latest technologies to continue to shorten schedules, minimize risk, reduce cost, and improve safety for workers and clients.
As part of lean, we utilize virtual design tools such as Building Information Modeling (BIM) and construction strategies such as prefabrication and modularization to maximize value to our clients by optimizing the schedule and allowing for a safer work environment.
Lean Learning
We create our own culture of learning and continuous improvement by increasing our focus on the principles and processes of Lean. This year, nearly 500 Turner staff will participate in our Advancing Lean workshops, learning the principles of scientific experimentation, continuous improvement, and problem solving - all in service of providing more value to our customers.
Visual Management
Used to provide our clients and partners with clear visual indicators depicting the status of our work at a quick glance. When work it is easier to see, it is easier to understand and to improve upon.
Continuous Improvement
We use the lessons learned on every project through the Plan Do Check Adjust (PDCA) process and utilization of A3 Problem Solving. Our lean philosophy looks beyond the immediate project toward the future of the construction industry.
Collaboration
A “Big Room” environment encourages collaboration amongst stakeholders to develop, design, build, and operate the facility.
Building Information Modeling
A multi-dimensional interactive model of the building for use in coordination, scheduling, planning, and detailing.
Last Planner System®
Used for schedule optimization, this process creates a workflow sequence based on contract milestones while providing feedback to improve performance. It uses the expertise of trade foreman to plan and monitor work.
Integrated Design-Build Subcontracting
Key trade partners are brought on early as part of the design process to help mitigate risk.
3D Laser Scanning
A device that analyzes an object or environment to collect data on shape and appearance. The scan ensures no clash conflicts happen with the existing structure or systems, helping to mitigate costly delays.
5S Program
A system referring to five steps in a cycle of improvement (Sort, Straighten, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain) to enhance organization, efficiency, and promote a safer environment.
Virtual & Augmented Reality
An immersive environment in which model content can be experienced as if the viewer was inserted into the model.
Prefabrication & Modularization
Building components are assembled off-site then delivered and assembled in place, saving space and increasing quality. Modularization creates a standard unitization of prefabricated elements.

Prefabrication
Prefabrication strategies reduce project costs by as much as 12%. Owners realize benefits of prefabrication a handful of ways including:
Safety: Performing more work away from the job site decreases the amount of activity happening onsite.
Time: Prefabricated items can be installed much quicker than building from unassembled materials.
Mobility: Diversion of people and materials away from the jobsite allows the activities that need to be done onsite to have more room.
Quality: Being able to work at their own controlled site can be very attractive to subcontractors. They are able to work in their own space without concern of getting in the way of other trade partners.
Cost: The costs for prefabrication and onsite fabrication should be estimated and analyzed to help determine which method will be the most beneficial.
