The Tigers scrimmaged Kirbyville on Saturday, Aug. 15 and Little Cypress-Mauriceville on Friday, Aug. 21. Several all-district players return on defense, including Todd McKee, a senior, was named honorable mention inside linebacker a year ago but moves to nose guard this season, battling for that spot with Jarius Angelle. Other linemen are Kendal Harmon and Steven Tanton at the tackle spots. The defensive ends, or outside linebackers, are Caleb Henry, Leroy Simmons with Josh Porter factoring into the equation. He had 23 unassisted and 16 assisted tackles with one fumble recovery. Tommy Barnett will roam around as the strong safety while Ronald Barnett stands in at free safety. McDaniel and Trey Singleton will play cornerback for the Tigers this season. McGallion said that Rhone and Lane could both see time in the secondary, as could QB Johnson. nents made the playoffs in 2008. “It’s going to be a challenge, but it’s the kind of challenge we need in order to get ready for district play,” McGallion said. Silsbee opens play against Houston Davis on Aug. 28 and while victory is what the Tigers hope to find as they host the Panthers, the real goal is to get ready for the District 21-3A opener against West OrangeStark that will take place on Oct. 9 in Silsbee. “Every week the goal is to get a little better, to move a little closer to your goals,” said McGallion. “We’re going to work hard every week to get better.”
