Destination wedding……just the two words sound romantic! In the last 10 years destination weddings have become more and more popular. Forget the church or town you grew up in, it’s all about setting the day apart from any other day in a different location making your wedding that much more special, creating that space as your lovers spot, so to speak. I personally had a destination wedding. It was just so much simpler. A 30-minute flight from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, or a 5-hour drive from Orange County. Everything was taken care of; there were no hassles, eezy peezy! And yes, that location is still ‘our spot’ sixteen years later. Would I recommend it? Absolutely! In total I have been to 4 destination weddings. A Santa Barbara, California; Las Vegas, Nevada; the Island of Maui, Hawaii and a beach wedding in Noosa in the Sunshine Coast of Queensland. Every wedding had it’s ambiance that made the day unique and their own. In Santa Barbara, the wedding was held at Fess Parker Wine Country Inn & Spa, considered to be one of the top four star lodging in the heart of Los Olivos, one of 3 small quaint towns that make up the Santa Barbara Wine Country. The inn is a wine estate that consists of only 10 rooms, each with it’s own fireplace reflecting the wine country elegance. Deep, rich and romantic colours, just as you would expect for an evening wedding, on a chilli fall night. A lot of candles and deep red roses. It was simply stunning. The entire es-

tate was booked for the wedding, which was a 2 day event. It turned into a much-needed short holiday that was pampering and luxurious for all the guests. Las Vegas is known for it’s chapel lined streets and “quickie” weddings. Unpredictable can be comical and can be a fairytale as well. You can book a wedding and plan the event in a couple of days, It’s that easy. Valentine’s day weekend in 2003 was the date of Mike and Megan’s Venetian wedding. The ceremony was intimately held on a floating gondola through the canals of The Venetian Las Vegas Resort. Forget flying all the way to Europe! The Venetian is like a little Venice with painted ceilings of the Italian skies above using natural lighting effects that make you feel the sunrise and the pink glow of Venice sunsets, marble columns and corridors lined with shops, designer boutiques and mimes keeping the crowds entertained, all looking over crystal blue canals with floating gondolas operated by Italian opera singers that will at any given moment, belt out an Italian operatic classic while winding through the resort canals, It’s quite amazing. There’s something very intimate and special about having no one else around to witness your vows to one another, other then the celebrant reciting the vows and the person responsible for keeping you afloat while whisking you through the very first moments of being newly wed.

Your guests can watch your ceremony from the bridges and balconies over looking the canals, once they see you kiss they know, it’s a done deal!! Cheers, whistles and bravos echo while welcoming your return from your gondola ceremony. Vegas weddings are always fun, it’s Vegas! Every chapel and resort in Las Vegas has wedding packages. Some can blow a budget as any customized wedding package can do, but it can also be very economical and

keep you under budget. And Vegas is Vegas! It has anything and everything so you can rest assure you, your partner and your guests will have a spectacular time. Destination wedding Hawaii was definitely the most love filled, fun filled and most extravagant destination wedding that I have attended. May 2005 was the date for Mike and Ashley. Located in the small town of Wailea on the island of Maui, Mike and Ashley’s fairytale wedding took place on the beautiful grounds and tropical gardens of the Four Seasons Resort. This wedding was absolutely gorgeous. My husband and I took the kids, one only being 5 months old at the time and had a fabulous time! Having the kids with us, we opted to stay in a self-contained unit just around the corner of the hotel and a small town called Kehei. The unit was 2 stories overlooking the beautiful Hawaiian Ocean. This wedding was so much fun, everyone who attended did the same thing and turned it into a family holiday. It was so neat to be in a completely different location and seeing people you knew wherever you went. The bride and groom treated their guests to a chosen recreational outdoor activity or a spa treatment. For five days you were connected to friends and family that you didn’t see more than maybe a couple of times in a year. The rehearsal dinner was a luau held in the garden that over looks the ocean, the same location where the ceremony took place. By the time you were seated for the ceremony, it was like the grand finale to a spectacular time, re-visiting and connecting with old friends and family, and some you met just the day before. The entire ex-

www.gcgrapevine.com.au

perience was glorious, and Mike and Ashley created a time and a joyous atmosphere filled with love, friendship & laughter for everyone to remember for the rest of their lives. Just like Vegas, every resort in Hawaii offers wedding packages. But unlike Vegas, Hawaii isn’t in the middle of the desert. You are on a beautiful tropical island with the most picturesque surroundings. And if having a wedding at a resort isn’t what you want, no worries, you can book your own wedding planner that offers all-inclusive wedding packages. You pick your location and you can customise the package to your liking. These packages include photography, number of guests for the catering, flower petals strewn about, absolutely stunning table settings that reflect your chosen wedding colours along with the beauty of the islands. Allinclusive Hawaiian wedding packages begin at about $3,000 and go up from there. The last and most recent destination wedding I attended was Nick and Kate’s wedding held on the Sunshine Coast in Noosa, Queensland in March 2009. This wedding probably had to be the most romantic wedding. The ceremony was held in the late afternoon on the beach. The groom led his bride onto the sand where a heart was carved just at the shoreline and there they stood and exchanged their wedding vows. The smell of the ocean, the sound of the waves breaking and the warmth of the setting sun was the stage for this ceremony. After the ceremony, the guests were shuttled to the newlywed’s parent’s home where the reception took place on the outdoor veranda. By the time you reached the home,

the sun had gone down. And they would have planned it just like that. When you walked into the house, the romantic lighting of candles and paper lanterns strewn above, the fragrance of gourmet canapés being served and the soft music that welcomed you took your breath away. The mood was sophisticated, sexy and elegant. And just like most destination weddings, this too turned into a much-needed short holiday. Just a few hours drive north of the Gold Coast, this lovely little town has a main street lined with gorgeous boutiques and shops situated just off the beach along with many self contained units that overlook the beach. Noosa is one of those towns that you fall in love with and you keep going back to. It’s a great holiday for families and kids and the perfect setting for a romantic wedding. I think destination weddings are a great idea. I know a lot of people think that a destination would cost an arm and a leg, but I think you’d be surprised at how cost effective they can be. Your honeymoon & wedding wrapped in one! Would I do it again? In a heart beat!

Media Release ATTENTION NEW RECRUITS! FALL IN! CAUTION...THIS COURSE WILL HELP YOU TO PLAN THE PERFECT WEDDING. WELCOME TO WEDDING BOOT CAMP!! Listen all you would be Wedding Planners - Fall in Now! At Wedding Boot Camp we don’t whip bodies into shape; we whip weddings into shape! Wedding Boot Camp is run by ‘Major’ Kylie Carlson who is single-handedly revolutionising the wedding industry in Australia. She is the author of the only TAFE course for wedding planners and her Wedding Boot Camp is inundated with brides-to-be who want to learn how to plan their wedding. After working in the UK for ten years as a wedding planner, Kylie moved to Australia where she was shocked to find the wedding industry lags behind the US and UK by a decade. That’s because most Aussies see hiring a wedding planner as a luxury only afforded by Hollywood movie stars. “There is a huge misconception in Australia that using a wedding planner is an ‘American thing.’ However, what’s starting to happen is the X and Y generations are time poor and career oriented, so they don’t have the time that previous generations had. The younger generations are used to having people doing things for them,” said Kylie. “So in the next five years wedding planners are going to be more popular because of the generation that’s coming up. But Aussies also have a DIY mentality, whereas the Brits say, ‘Here’s what I want – you do it!’ So Wedding Boot Camp offers a service where we say it’s still your wedding but we will help you. We will give you the tools to plan your own wedding.” Kylie believes there is a lot more pressure on brides today than twenty years ago. They have seen and heard many horror stories about wedding disasters, that they are going to greater lengths to ensure everything is perfect. The Professional Power Courses in Wedding Planning, Styling & Design are available as a Distance Learning Correspondence Course or via E Learning at the Wedding Boot Camp Academy in Victoria. BULLS BEACH o e d o R

on the

McDonald’s Bulls on the Beach is now an annual event held in the Sea World car park. This was the first time I attended the event. Although the kids had a great time, watching all the bucking bulls, I wasn’t so impressed. Unorganized is the word that comes to mind. When I first walked in I had to find an ATM straight away. I was told to the right. To the right was an elderly man behind a makeshift table, no banner or overhead sign advising you it was the ATM, all he had was a small framed poster the size of an A4 portrait on the table. When I walked up to him, he had a portable eftpos machine. OK, so where was the money going to come from? From the bank bag, on the table next to him! Any person could have knocked him on the head and take off with the bag. I was amazed. Then once inside it was one line after another. Yes, lines are normal at events, but waiting in line

to get a drink, only to wait in another line to buy the tickets for your drinks, to only then wait in another line after you purchase your tickets to hand the ticket over and get your drink. The arena where the bull riders compete didn’t seem to safe. Bulls are pretty big animals. They could easily charge the posts and knock them over. In the end, the kids had a good time and that was the most important part but will I go next year is the remaining unanswered question.

The Veve Glamour Swimwear launch took place in July at the Gold Coast International. Upon entry, you were greeted with martinis, a flame twirler and a person dressed to theme on stilts. The atmosphere was every bit a circus under a tent. The carnival collection was paraded down the runway starting with the new children’s collection and ending with the finally line up. Vanessa Bryce (pictured below in the centre) is the creator behind the label and was delighted with how the event turned out when I spoke with her briefly after the show. Inspired by Brazilian cut bikini’s, and everything glamorous, these bathing suits have it all, they are HOT, SEXY & full of BLING! With rhinestones, beading and sequence, these bikini’s are definitely not your average bikini and not for the fuller figure! They are itsy bitsy, barely there and definitely eye catching! Veve has set the bar for other swimwear designers sure to follow. They are unique, feminine, and absolutely gorgeous! The event was a great success and I can only see this swimwear line getting more and more popular and with suits being worn at the playboy mansion in Hollywood, I don’t see this sexy collection stopping there! Spring Clean...

Your way to New love!!! by Helen Thomas

Spring rolls in with an air of renewal, revival and that glorious tingling anticipation of the new. For some, renewal and revival occurs in an existing relationship, a deepening or strengthening of commitment to one another—but what about those not in a relationship and still looking for ‘the one’? Harness the energy of spring, its renewal, revival and rebirth, to best prepare for Mr or Ms Right. Just like spring-cleaning the house, spring-cleaning your energy creates room for new love. STEP ONE – Clear and Cleanse Clear out your life as if clearing out your wardrobe. Anything that doesn’t fit anymore—a specific relationship or person, an old way of doing things or just outdated beliefs about relationships—needs to be removed to create way for the new. Sift through your life, beliefs and behaviours to decide which elements are to be thrown out, repaired or kept. Try taking a mental inventory of your life. By writing down your thoughts and feelings, you can quickly become very clear about them. Do they still ring true for you? If not, toss them out! Purging energy is extremely therapeutic. Each person has their own unique energy and this can be transferred to tangible items. If you no lon-

17

_____________ Helen Thomas

ger want someone’s energy hanging around (or energy from a period in your life, for that matter), simply discard any items which hold that energy. So, if your ex’s old clothes, photographs or other reminders are lying around, it may be time to get rid of them. If you can’t quite bring yourself to throw them out just yet, an energetic cleanse is just as good. Energetic cleansing is simple and painless. Just like spending a day at the beach, salt water is effective in washing away old, stale energy from objects or rooms. Wash items which can withstand it in salt water. For those which can’t, place bowls (or buckets, depending on what you need!) of salt water around your home or office. Change the salt water in the bowl every couple of days and keep the bowl in use in the room until you feel cleared of unwanted energy. Music is another great way to disperse stagnant energy. To cleanse your own energy, healing treatments such as Reiki or chakra cleansing can be beneficial. It may pay to find a healer or treatment you feel comfortable with. For a technique done in the comfort and privacy of your own home, guided meditations steer you through the process of releasing and letting go of old emotions. continued on next page

www.gcgrapevine.com.au

STEP TWO: Repair Sifting through your life may unearth some areas requiring a little tender, loving care to bring them back to their former glory. Repair any damage—emotionally, physically, mentally and energetically—that former relationships and beliefs about relationships have caused. Spending time in nature is a free and easy way to restore your energy (another day at the beach, anyone?). Go for a bush walk, sit in a park or simply admire your own back yard—it will do wonders for your psyche. Enjoying activities which make your soul sing are vital. Whether it is cooking, singing, horse riding or simply taking a bubble bath, spend a little time immersed in those things which purely make you feel good. Start small, say 30 minutes a week, and soon your energy will be overflowing, ready to tackle any of life’s bigger problems. This is the perfect stage to begin treating yourself the way you want to be treated in a relationship. Remember the old saying you need to be your own best friend? Rekindle the most important relationship you have in life, the one you have with yourself. STEP THREE: Create This is the fun part! It’s time to go shopping for items which reflect the new you. Be clear about what you are ‘shopping’ for. Who do you want to attract to yourself? While you cannot control every detail of your life or

who will turn up to share it with you, you do have an overall say in the direction of your life and the type of person you’d like to enjoy it with. Help this along by creating a vision board of the kind of partner you want to manifest or make a list of the traits your ideal partner will have. People and situations in your life will begin to mirror your cleansed, more positive energy. Positive affirmations can also bring about positive change—not only in your thoughts and beliefs but in your behaviors and experiences as well. To understand this process more, it may be worth exploring and understanding the Law of Attraction. In short, if you want to attract a loving, giving relationship it’s important you become these qualities first. Look at ways to share love with the people already in your life and soon you’ll find plenty more to share with. In following these simple springcleaning steps, you can bring about major changes to your life and manifest the kind of relationship you are longing for, one that matches you mentally, physically, emotionally and at the soul level.

This Course is uncertified, but receives all the skills. They also receive a magnet, with all the tips required should they need to utilise in the event of an emergency. If there are other people requiring the Certified training, please feel free to contact me for a quote. My prices are very affordable for quality First Aid training. This is the greatest gift of all…Life! What are you waiting for? I saved a life…YUCAN2!

for a

GORGEOUS wedding body!

You have a gorgeous fiancé, set the date but now let’s get you into shape for that honeymoon bikini body and to feel great on your big day! Speaking from experience, my wedding was 12 months ago. Here are my top 10 tips to get you shape, maintain your energy levels prior to your wedding, and ensure you look your best.

1

Weddings can be stressful. When we stress, generally we crave sugar, which then sends us on an emotional rollercoaster. Balance your day with small snacks of complex carbohydrates, fats and proteins. This will maintain your blood sugar levels and reduce the need to grab something naughty. A great snack is a small handful of raw, mixed organic nuts with a few pieces of dried (preservative free) fruit. Prunes are great as they are high in magnesium which is depleted when stressed. Magnesium assists with muscle relaxation. But beware, too many can have a laxative effect. A healthy alternative to chocolate is Cacao (Raw, chocolate). Cacao is extremely nutritious, no sugar and is high in magnesium!

Beat cellulite and have gorgeous skin! Contrary to popular belief, chocolate does not cause cellulite. Cellulite is usually a result of poor hydration levels. Increase your water intake to at least 2 litres daily. This will flush out toxins, plump up your skin and is by far the BEST beauty product in the world! Sprinkle some organic celtic sea salt in your water to assist with hydration which contains trace minerals, great for your body!

3

2

Eat Clean. This means reduce your chemical load in your food. Toxicity can cause headaches, fatigue, irritability, stress, bowel conditions like constipation or diarrhea, skin outbreaks and the list goes on. Symptoms you don’t want when preparing for your wedding! Choose organic whole food where possible, find out the source of your food and make a conscious decision about all your food choices.

Do not crash diet. Any diet that cannot be considered long term, shouldn’t be considered at all. Crash dieting will lower your BMR (basal metabolic rate) and you will gain weight shortly after dieting. Choose long term, clean food plans.

5

4

Train the correct way and correct amount. Over training can be just as detrimental as under training. Overtraining can cause stress on the joints, adrenal fatigue, muscle pain and injury. Plan your training program around the FITT Principle specific for your needs. Frequency, Intensity, Time and Type. www.gcgrapevine.com.au

6

Do not choose diet shakes, protein shakes or diet bars pre wedding to shift those extra kilos. Some of these products contact artificial sweeteners, toxins and other nasties that will load your liver and cause toxicity. Some artificial sweeteners are also neurotoxins. Choose good clean food over ‘fake’ bars and shakes.

Resist the urge to use detox kits from the chemist. Some of these kits can do more harm than good and the testimonials may not be as good as they say. Your body has a great way of detoxing itself, if given the chance. Try drinking more water, less coffee and switching to organic food. That’s a simple detox in itself. There are many more food options that assist with the detox process.

______________ Top 10 Tips by Katlyn Martin

Being a personal trainer, of course I’m going to recommend a training program too. Choose functional, compound exercises over isolated exercises. This means choosing squats over a hamstring curl. This will save you time in the gym which is something of great value leading up to your wedding and provide strength and movement that is relative for daily life. Try a squat or a lunge combined with a bicep curl or a push up with a pike and tuck crunch. Always activate your core with EVERY exercise you choose. Try and limit your training to 45 minutes.

Sparkle on your wedding day! Choose a variety of nutritious foods that are good for your skin, your nails, your hair and your energy. Load your body with antioxidants like fresh berries, good fats like avocados, foods containing silica which builds strong nails and hair like celery and asparagus, and plenty of rest for sparkling fresh bright eyes.

9

Enjoy yourself. Nutrition and exercise programs should be for life not just for your big day, therefore they should be enjoyable and long term.
