DEAR SCORECARD READER, Board of Directors Nick Moraitakis Chair Chan Caudell Vice Chair Brian Buckelew Treasurer Charlie Tanksley Political Chair Frank Burns Bertis Downs Josh Marks Jim Mathis Rutherford Seydel

Actions taken by the General Assembly during the past two years have helped, but stopped short of being comprehensive solutions for, the environmental challenges we face. This is reflected throughout our 2007-08 edition of the Georgia Conservation Voters (GCV) Legislative Scorecard. GCV is proud to serve as the political voice of the conservation community. We not only advocate for responsible environmental policy, but also campaign vigorously to elect pro-conservation leaders to public office. This scorecard tells a story about conservation priorities and legislative successes. It rewards legislators who are champions of our natural resources and it calls out those who are clearly out of step with the communities they are elected to represent. The scorecard does not include every bill or resolution lobbied by the conservation community, but we believe it to be the best synopsis available of key votes in the General Assembly important to Georgians concerned about the environment. Throughout this past biennium, GCV has worked closely with environmental, sportsmen, health and community organizations to pass the conservation community’s legislative agenda. These efforts resulted in steps forward on biofuels, land conservation, protection of Jekyll Island and more. Progress could not have been possible without the leadership of both Republican and Democratic legislators who have distinguished themselves as environmental champions. Now, with this record in mind, GCV turns its attention toward the 2008 political campaign season, where we will work to reward those who have stood up for the environment and hold accountable those who have not. This cycle of accountability only works with your interest and active participation – both during campaign season and the 2009-10 legislative session. GCV looks forward to working closely with you so, together, we can share in the celebration of more environmental victories during the next two years.
