Gasworks Arts Park is a vibrant arts space producing Performing Arts, Visual Arts and Outdoor Events for all ages. The precinct is home to four hectares of parkland, two theatres, three gallery spaces and a cafĂŠ, as well as function and workshop spaces. Gasworks Arts Park is just three kilometres from the CBD, situated near the beach in Albert Park, Melbourne, on the site of the former South Melbourne Gas plant.

We respectfully acknowledge the Yalukit Willam Clan of the Boon Wurrung as the Traditional Custodians of the land upon which Gasworks Arts Park is located. We pay our respects to ancestors and Elders, past, present and future.

2019 brings six world premiere shows to Gasworks Arts Park, all produced through our artistic development programs and created by independent artists with our support. There is no better time or place to discover fresh new artists with stories to tell.

Gasworks Arts Park is described by those in the know as an enriching community space, a place to embrace the arts, an oasis, a hidden gem, and a little known secret. I think it’s time we let the secret out.

New in 2019 will be an organic picnic for the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, and a talks series Inside Art and Architecture: seminars that will give you the opportunity to meet career experts in art and architecture who will take you inside their work, their projects, and their worlds.

The new Gold Pass (page 38) will allow you the flexibility to enjoy special times with family and friends your way. Dive into the legend of the White Mouse - Nancy Wake - then enjoy comedy, local stars, Australian family drama, and cabaret superstar Yana Alana. We are proud to host our 2019 company in residence, Circus Showdown Alumni, One Fell Swoop, who will be developing a brand-new show with us.

BY CHRISTINE CROYDEN DIRECTED BY SARA GRENFELL Nancy Wake, codename The White Mouse, evaded capture by the Gestapo and was one of only thirteen female special agents to survive World War II. Was the price she paid too high?

In a hallucinatory review of her life, the adventurous Australian icon strips back the layers of gold paint on the legend as she tells her own story, together with her comrades from the forests of France. Among them a mysterious German spy and cabaret singer, who performs Marlene Dietrich’s most beloved songs.

Underground coincides with International Women’s Day, 8 March.

Ever wondered what wine goes best with fairy bread? Why hasn’t the ‘Champagne Spider’ caught on? These questions and many more will be inadequately answered by the selfstyled sommeliers of comedy, Damian Callinan and Paul Calleja.

The Wine Bluffs are here to do what they do best: bullsh*t about wine. Laying spurious claim to a reputation as renowned wine consultants, the duo, fresh from judging the Fruit Wine Section at The Rockhampton Show, will take you through the cellar door with a comedic twist.

STUDIO ARTISTS GASWORKS ARTS PARK Residing within the walls of Gasworks Arts Park are Ceramics, Visual Arts and Sculpture studios where 15 resident artists contibute to a thriving artistic community.

The studios are open to the public on the 3rd Saturday of every month for the Gasworks Farmers’ Market.

Gasworks Arts Park is delighted to present the annual exhibition by these resident artists in July. The exhibition is open to visitors 7 days a week and is free admission; with the final weekend coinciding with Open House Melbourne.

En Plein Air is a French expression that means ‘in the open air’ and is most often used to describe the act of painting outdoors with the artist’s subject in full view.

Gasworks Arts Park is hosting Paint Out in the open air for professional & amateur artists, arty people and nature lovers. The days will be a visual symphony of colour and motion as all park visitors and spectators become part of the landscape scene.

A Pop Up exhibition of the artworks will be displayed in the Foyer Gallery following the blast of the finishing siren.

Priscilla Jones cafe at Gasworks offers a fabulous breakfast and lunch every day, with the very best coffee from Allpress Roastery.

Improve your skills or learn something new in our variety of community classes and workshops.

The courtyard and open green space is the perfect place to bring your favourite people and four legged friends for a little down time.

Enjoy a glass of wine on awarm day, before or after a matinee show.

Classes cover disciplines including: life drawing, painting, travel sketching, clay sculpting, candle making, yoga and music.

Most classes run on a term basis in a friendly environment with knowledgeable and passionate teachers.

PICNIC IN THE PARK GASWORKS FARMERS MARKET MELBOURNE FOOD & WINE FESTIVAL Indulge with your own individually packed picnic hamper overflowing with delicious sustainably sourced local produce. Settle in for a mouthwatering and relaxing afternoon during the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival.

With a focus on ethical farming practices, and plastic free, you will be free of guilt as you enjoy the charm of the Glade while listening to local musicians.

All hampers will be crafted with a curated selection of goods from Gasworks Farmers Market stallholders.

We’re certain you’ll love our gourmet selections and you can pre-order your favourites for collection at the following weekend’s Farmers’ Market.

Spend Saturday mornings on the grass soaking up the vibrant atmosphere and sampling the very best of local Victorian produce, direct from farmers and speciality makers Deep coloured, ripe and delicious fruit and vegetables, aromatic hand-made cakes and jams, freshly laid free range eggs and just cut flowers are only a few of the sumptuous goods you’ll find at our monthly Gasworks Farmers’ Market, held on the third Saturday of each month.

Gasworks Farmers’ Market is accredited by the Victorian Farmers’ Market Association and is proudly plastic-bag free.

The Gasworks Resident Artist Studios are also open during the Farmers’ Market, so make sure you pop in and say hello!

VENUE HIRE Boasting two theatres, three gallery spaces and a fully functioning bar, our heritage industrial buildings provide a creative canvas for artists and event organisers.

Gasworks offers event management services by our team of experienced professionals together with on-site catering, staging and audio suppliers who can create and deliver the perfect event. Our spaces can be used for performances, rehearsals, auditions, functions and meetings.

THE GASWORKS FOUNDATION PATRONS FUND

NEW RETRACTABLE SEATING

The Gasworks Foundation funds projects which have a positive, lasting impact on the Gasworks Arts Park site and the surrounding community. In 2018, the Foundation supported artists through Circus Showdown, a dance battle and an outdoor sculpture exhibition. In addition, two community groups participated in a fun filled outreach program during the school holidays.

We are fundraising for new seating to be installed in our main theatre in early 2020.

A new fully-motorized retractable seating bank will increase our theatre’s capacity while creating a more attractive space with improved accessibility and a better view for everyone.
