Gasworks Arts Park is a vibrant arts space producing Performing Arts, Visual Arts and Outdoor Events for all ages. The precinct is home to four hectares of parkland, two theatres, three gallery spaces and a cafĂŠ, as well as function and workshop spaces. Gasworks Arts Park is just three kilometres from the CBD, situated near the beach in Albert Park, Melbourne, on the site of the former South Melbourne Gas plant. We respectfully acknowledge the Yalukit Willam Clan of the Boon Wurrung as the Traditional Custodians of the land upon which Gasworks Arts Park is located. Gasworks Arts Park is described by those in the know as an enriching community space, a place to embrace the arts, an oasis, a hidden gem, and a little known secret. I think it’s time we let the secret out.

New in 2019 will be an organic picnic for the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, and a talks series Inside Art and Architecture: seminars that will give you the opportunity to meet career experts in art and architecture who will take you inside their work, their projects, and their worlds. The new Gold Pass (page 38) will allow you the flexibility to enjoy special times with family and friends your way. Dive into the legend of the White Mouse - Nancy Wake - then enjoy comedy, local stars, Australian family drama, and cabaret superstar Yana Alana. We are proud to host our 2019 company in residence, Circus Showdown Alumni, One Fell Swoop, who will be developing a brand-new show with us. Heartfelt thanks to all the artists that make Gasworks Arts Park a wonderful incubator and meeting place, to our major funding partner the City of Port Phillip, to our board and talented staff, and to all our private donors and supporters. You all make amazing things happen.

UNDERGROUND BY CHRISTINE CROYDEN DIRECTED BY SARA GRENFELL Nancy Wake, codename The White Mouse, evaded capture by the Gestapo and was one of only thirteen female special agents to survive World War II. Was the price she paid too high? In a hallucinatory review of her life, the adventurous Australian icon strips back the layers of gold paint on the legend as she tells her own story, together with her comrades from the forests of France. Among them a mysterious German spy and cabaret singer, who performs Marlene Dietrich’s most beloved songs.

STUDIO ARTISTS GASWORKS ARTS PARK Residing within the walls of Gasworks Arts Park are Ceramics, Visual Arts and Sculpture studios where 15 resident artists contibute to a thriving artistic community. The studios are open to the public on the 3rd Saturday of every month for the Gasworks Farmers’ Market. Gasworks Arts Park is delighted to present the annual exhibition by these resident artists in July. The exhibition is open to visitors 7 days a week and is free admission; with the final weekend coinciding with Open House Melbourne.

En Plein Air is a French expression that means ‘in the open air’ and is most often used to describe the act of painting outdoors with the artist’s subject in full view. Gasworks Arts Park is hosting Paint Out in the open air for professional & amateur artists, arty people and nature lovers. The days will be a visual symphony of colour and motion as all park visitors and spectators become part of the landscape scene. A Pop Up exhibition of the artworks will be displayed in the Foyer Gallery following the blast of the finishing siren.

NEW RETRACTABLE SEATING
The Gasworks Foundation funds projects which have a positive, lasting impact on the Gasworks Arts Park site and the surrounding community. In 2018, the Foundation supported artists through Circus Showdown, a dance battle and an outdoor sculpture exhibition. In addition, two community groups participated in a fun filled outreach program during the school holidays.
We are fundraising for new seating to be installed in our main theatre in early 2020. A new fully-motorized retractable seating bank will increase our theatre’s capacity while creating a more attractive space with improved accessibility and a better view for everyone.
