Not all art is drawing and painting as we have shown over the last year. Cublington also boasts several crafters and this month we feature Amy Morgan who can certainly draw, but her real passion is textiles. She dyes her own wool and creates beautiful items by crocheting and knitting. Amy Morgan

l a i r o t i d E As we move into Spring, the season of new beginnings, it seems apt that Rebecca and I are guest editors this month prior to us moving on from the village. We have spent a little over eight wonderful years in this special community, which means I guess; we are still classed as ‘newbies’ Our children have had the privilege of growing up in this wonderful place, surrounded by the beautiful countryside and a lot of jolly nice people to boot. We are sure they will look back on their childhood with very fond memories for many years to come. As with many families, life moves on at a rate of knots, our children have matured into young adults and have begun their journey into working life. It is therefore the right time for us to move on as the needs of our family changes. As we reflect back on our time living here in Cublington it is often too easy to overlook or even take for granted what our village has to offer. As with most things in life it is the people you share it with that makes it special. Just a few stand out moments for us include the wonderful team at the Unicorn, tending the sheep at Michael’s small holding, being able to let the children run wild (literally) around the countryside, Jacob and I sneaking off to the Lakeside Fishery for the day, the facilities at Biggs Pavilion, the list is extensive and could certainly go on. We have been amazed at the community spirit in our little village and the time residents commit to it year after year. Again, there are many examples of this and everyone who contributes should be very proud of the part they play. As we write this, we have just received a call to action from Gary, announcing the Summer Fete is going ahead on the 1st August! Rebecca and I have supported this vital fund raiser since we move to Cublington. A quintessential part of any village life is the annual fete, where else would our children ever had learnt how to ‘splat a rat’ or ‘wang a wellie’ The village fete really is a vital contributor to the coffers, if you are new to the village or indeed have lived here for some time, please do get involved and support the community we are sure you love as much as we do. Rebecca and I would lastly like to take this opportunity to thank our neighbour Maggie, we have had the privilege of getting to know you over the past 8 years Maggie, they say you need good neighbours to make a great home and you certainly have been amazing. Thank you so much, we will miss you All the best, Vernon & Rebecca.

More help needed for the fete please! It takes an enormous amount of effort by a loyal army of people to make village events like this happen. Everyone enjoys them and says that it’s what makes Cublington such a great place to live. That being so, I have received many offers of help for the fete on Sunday August 1st, but still need more please. Volunteers in any capacity please to me, Gary at the following email: gary@cublingtoncrier.co.uk See list of proposed stalls further inside.

Goodbye and good luck To the Lovatt family who have sold and are moving to Grendon Underwood. Also to the Cox family who as explained opposite are off to pastures new. Thank you Vernon for your vast help, contributions and support at the village fete over the last number of years - your burgers will be sorely missed! Also to Amy Morgan - moving from the village into her own home. Good luck one and all.

Thanks

To the Crafters & Co everyone who contributed to the bunting, festooning the churchyard and showing that we can still have fun, even in Lockdown. The strings will be available for use at village events, and can be borrowed for other occasions too! See photos on the front cover.

Thanks once again

for all the messages saying how you have enjoyed the Crier over the last few months. It really helps that people have sent in photos and articles of interest and are really engaging with the Crier. It makes all the hard work everyone puts in worthwhile. From guest editors to “spots”, Gill who proofreads and chases up the advertisers, to the small army of deliverers each month. Keep it coming please!

Cublington Crier

Keeping you up to date on village life, news and events since 1984

The monthly magazine of the Buckinghamshire village of Cublington - the village that moved.

Need anything? Dog walking? Shopping? Collecting medicines? Help is at hand. The village support network is still there if anyone needs any help of whatever, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We will keep going until it is deemed safe to stop. The mass vaccination programme is continuing apace and record numbers are being vaccinated. The Government achieved their target of vaccinating the first nine groups. News is that the next tiers - even those in their 40’s are being invited will start shortly. So far the pathway out of lockdown Boris announced is going smoothly so far and whilst we all want it to be over more quickly, as I’m writing this there are only 54 more days until all social distancing measures are lifted. Hooray! Can we remind you to keep looking at the www.cublington.com website for up to date information about Covid and other items of general interest from Bucks Council and the Parish Council. In these unusual times, we urge you to please use the Crier as a forum and interact with it. Write a letter to someone or everyone, write a poem or an article. We love getting your spotteds, your letters, photos, articles and ideas, so please keep them coming. We are particularly in need of WHO AM I? volunteers. It’s simple and just a bit of fun.

Stay safe and most of all, use your common sense! If you are willing to help with the Crier in any way... whether it be delivering, writing the odd letter, or sending an article you think might be of interest or any sort of regular contributions like Who Am I? Please do it as The Crier only survives with content. The editororial team really can't be expected to do everything every month. The guest editor list is now being compiled 2022. Yes! We really do plan that far ahead! If asked, please do your bit for the community and join in... it’s actually a bit of fun!

1.What did you want to be when you grew up? I had absolutely no idea! But my friends told me I should be a teacher, because I was (allegedly) very bossy. What was your first job? General dogsbody on a free range egg farm, at the weekends. I walked the barns to collect any stray eggs (the chickens would follow me!), then sorted the eggs as they came down the conveyor belt to be boxed. It was hard work, and often disgusting! But I learned a lot. A perfect first job. Who (alive or dead) would you like to have dinner with and why? (You can have more than one!) At the moment, I would just choose my friends! We are all scattered around the world, so getting everyone into one room for an evening would be an incredible thing, especially after the last year. What historical era would you like to have lived in and why? As a queer woman I’m not sure I would have enjoyed the past very much! Perhaps I would have made a good eccentric, reclusive Victorian spinster? Where would you want to live if not where you live now and why? I spent a year living in Aberystwyth while I was studying for my master’s degree, and would love to go back to live in Wales eventually. What is the temptation you wish you could resist? Naps! What is your favourite book and why? Peter Pan by JM Barrie. I collect different editions of it and have over thirty so far! It’s such a dark, twisted story compared to how people generally think of it, and I’m fascinated by it. What is your favourite song and why? If She Wants Me’ by Belle and Sebastian. It’s an upbeat tune with such beautiful, uplifting lyrics, I’m always happy to hear it again. What is the pet hate that makes your hackles rise? People rocking on their chairs. I’m just picturing you falling flat backwards! What is the unlikely interest that engages your curiosity? Fountain pens – I have a small but growing collection of fancy inks in lots of lovely colours, and several pens with different nibs. How long have you lived in Cublington? A little over five years now. It’s nice here!

Don’t be a lockdown statistic!

It’s reported that we have been 40% less active during this last winter lockdown period. We are now seeing more neck and back injuries often associated with increased sitting. There is now no walking to the office, just to the kitchen instead! So, if you don’t want to be a statistic, here a few tips from St Judes: 1. Take regular breaks, get up and move away from your desk. Do another task, rather than just waiting for the kettle to boil, load the dishwasher, the washing machine, fold up the washing. Move little and often. 2. Consider if you can work at different heights - think of your kitchen worktop or chest of drawers as your new standing desk. 3. S et your alarm on your phone to schedule regular breaks and move! 4. Try some simple stretches at your desk: • Sideways neck stretches. • Stretching up and lifting the breastbone up whilst bringing your arms out to your sides, bent at the elbows, palms facing forward to stretch across your chest muscles. • Twisting from the waist (NB never push into pain or pins and needles.) 5. Get up and walk around during a phone call. 6. Get out of the house – walking, running, even if it means wrapping up well, you will be pleased you did. 7. Consider some online fitness after work - yoga, Pilates or a more aerobic workout. (St Judes offer online rehab Pilates classes.) 8. Household tasks such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, all get the heart rate up too. Don’t’: • Ignore this article! • Don’t put off till later what you need to now i.e. move. • Slouch. With the golf courses now allowed to open it’s a great time to get back to golf - 18 holes of golf amount to 6 - 8 km of walking and burns around 1,500 calories! However, it requires strength, endurance, power, flexibility and repetitive action. It can generate large forces in the body and so we see injuries; commonly affecting the wrists, elbows, shoulders and back. Back pain accounts for roughly 30% of all golfing injuries. * Poor technique and inflexibility in the spine and hips can be contributing factors, as is the repetitive nature of the golf swing, making technique very important. Core stability exercises, specific to golf, can help improve strength and posture. Massaging affected muscles and electrotherapy may also be beneficial as well as expert advice and guidance from a Physiotherapist. Sometimes we see clients who may not be in pain but are aware of a stiff back and poor mobility affecting their swing. It’s good to take action at this time before there is a problem as prevention is better than cure. Here are a few tips to help prevent injuries: 1. Do a proper warm up - include stretching the muscles of your shoulder, neck and back. 2. Perform regular core conditioning exercises - to improve your core strength in your back and shoulders. 3. Ensure you are using the correct equipment including the right club grip - to help prevent development of wrist and elbow injuries. 4. Watch your swing technique - poor swing mechanics and over-swinging can all lead to injury. (These can be addressed by a golf Professional.) 5. Listen to your body - decrease your play time at the first sign of aches and pains. By improving your technique, warming up and carrying out specific exercises, you can improve your golf performance and significantly reduce the risk of injuries. Our experienced Physiotherapists at St Judes can help you reach your true potential and provide effective treatment should you require it. *(Chartered Society of Physiotherapists).

The best reason to get up early Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity is asking everyone to set their alarm clocks for 5am on Saturday 10th July and join hundreds of others (virtually) for a dawn walk to raise crucial funds to support the Hospice. “Whilst we are disappointed not to be able to go ahead with our traditional Midnight Walk, we had such an overwhelmingly positive reaction to last year’s event that we are confident that it will be a great success and raise a fantastic amount of money to help fund local hospice care again” says Julie Chittie, Events Manager at the Charity. This year Walkers are again be asked to walk a minimum of 5 miles, wherever they want, starting at 5am on Saturday 10th July. The event is open to all, whatever your age and wherever you are in the world - last year saw lots of children (and dogs) join in so this year the Charity are offering children's T-shirts and dog bandanas so everyone can be a part of the event. The Midnight Walk is a long-standing and major fundraiser for the Charity, and with their income hit so badly over the past year, they are hoping everyone will get behind them by signing up to this year’s virtual event and help to raise the thousands of pounds needed to help secure the future of local hospice care. For more information and to sign up, please visit www.fnhospice.org.uk/notthemidnightwalk or call 01296 429975.

Lambing has gone well, however, COULD DOG OWNERS PLEASE KEEP THEIR DOGS ON LEADS WHEN IN ANY FIELD WITH SHEEP IN IT.... even if the sheep are up the far end. Dogs can run faster than their humans and damage can be done in a flash.

The Vales on farming in the Vale #7 March/April Following on from last month we successfully installed the bottom panels and poured the concrete floor. We had a local firm from Littlecote assist us with this and they used their power tamp to help level the surface and ride on power floats to polish the surface to give a smooth durable surface which is very easy to keep clean. The ride on power floats are quite a unique machine, they are two sets of four paddles, imagine a ceiling aeration fan and that is what they are. You put a disc over the paddle to start with and once the concrete is nearly dry you whizz round on the top till its smooth, then lift the float up remove the disc and whizz round again with just the paddles on the surface until the surface is completely shiny. I started an Instagram account a little while ago to post some pictures to accompany these articles if any one wishes to see them, search for hullcombe. I started seeding the Spring oats at the beginning of the month and these have emerged and received their first dose of fertiliser. I then moved on to the first split of the main application of nitrogen to the Winter cereals. I would normally follow this up two weeks later with the remainder but with the drought we are now experiencing this may be delayed. The lack of rain has stunted growth in all our crops and I fear may have finished off the oilseed rape crop in the Cublington parish. Hopefully May will bring some much needed rain. March also saw me take on the tenancy of the 5 acre field behind Roses Close. We have installed a new drainage scheme which will hopefully help keep the soil in good condition and benefit the crops we grow and the soil organisms present there. We have our own mechanical trencher for installing perforated pipe which is then backfilled with stone to a foot from the surface. We do this by using a trailer with a rubber conveyor which sticks out the side. We then follow this operation with the mole plough. This machine consists of a disc to cut a slot in the surface followed by a leg with a 3” tubular foot with a 4” expander behind it. We run the foot approx 15” deep and the machine creates hollow channels in the soil at this depth. We then mole plough at an angle to the plastic drain network so the channels run through the stone backfill and the water drains from the channels into the plastic pipe. I also this week (19th April) helped with another bovine tuberculosis test this time at my father in law's farm in Stewkley, thankfully we had no reactors and the herd are all happy and healthy. Orchard Ground & North Field Latest news...

• TheNorth Field: a guided walk on Friday 21st May: 7.00pm - All villagers welcome! There is still no decision as to the planning application for the change of use for North Field although Pippa has received an acknowledgement to her chasing for a decision from the Planning Officer at Buckinghamshire Council. I understand that they are concentrating on housing planning applications at present, but a decision has been offered by the end of April. A guided walk around North Field has been planned for the evening of Friday 21st May, meeting at 7.00pm in the Biggs Pavilion carpark. The next phase of the lockdown is due to be lifted on 17th May when most legal restrictions on meeting people outdoors should be lifted. However, the walk will be socially distances and Orchard Ground has hand sanitiser, face masks etc which will be available. The walk will cover what is planned for North Field in the shorter and longer terms. Copies of the planning diagram will be made available, copies have previously been circulated in The Crier. I do hope you will be able to join us on this walk. • Charitable Status for Orchard Ground, The Biggs Pavilion and North Field The proposed charitable status was briefly reported on in the last edition of The Crier and information has previously appeared in this village magazine. It is hoped that the granting of a lease from Cublington Parish Council and the registration of the new charity can happen at the same time. The new charity will be call the Cublington Orchard Ground Association, a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO). The current Orchard Ground Committee which includes representatives from the various village clubs and societies will continue with its important work much as it does now organising events and activities, fundraising, undertaking maintenance and upkeep, undertaking bookings and rentals etc. The new charity will provide a ‘charity wrapper’ helping to secure these very important facilities which lay at the heart of the the village of Cublington. The new charity will need a number of trustees, several people in the village have expressed an interest in becoming a trustee, there is still an opportunity for you to offer your help or to ask for further information. Trustees need to act in the charity’s best interests, manage resources responsibly including finances, and act with reasonable care and skill. Trustees must be aged at least 16. People cannot act as trustees if they are disqualified by certain criminal convictions or bankruptcy. There is more information about the role of charitable trustees on the following web site; https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/the-essential-trustee-what-you-need-to-know-cc3 or please feel free to contact Martyn Waters on 07973754356. To help ensure that this new charity works for the benefit of the community here in Cublington, all bar one of the trustees must be a resident within the parish of Cublington. •1 00 Club 2021/22: a new round of draws start this month. Saturday 4th September 8.30am Things are looking good for a CUBLINGTON HORTICULTURAL SHOW this year, though we are planning a smaller event without the domestic category at present, so if necessary we can hold it all outside. We are not looking to have sponsorship for every category but if anyone would like to sponsor that would be great and we are grateful to those of you who have carried over the sponsorship from last years cancelled event. All money raised goes towards Friends of St Nicholas to maintain our lovely church building. Please contact Sandie Joy 01296 682446 if you would like to sponsor. This is a fun event and having honed your skills last year in lockdown we are hoping for record entries this time around. From the Reverend

Greetings and warm wishes to you all in this season of Eastertide. At the point at which I was writing this contribution we were on the eve of the mid-April landmark for the new wave of restriction lifting, and there was clearly a strong sense of déjà vu. My mind was therefore drawn to something that was written back in May 2020 as the restrictions from the first lockdown were being lifted. The writing in question was from a book written by former Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, in a book called Candles in the Dark: Faith, Hope and Love in a Time of Pandemic (the book that our Benefice Lent Group was focussing on back in February and March). Writing on the eve of the 75th anniversary of VE Day Williams notes that, after six years of the deprivation and uncertainty of war, a sense of rest, a return to ‘normality’ and to something people could ‘cope with’ was clearly a top priority. However, it didn’t stop there, because many people did not consider it sufficient simply that the immediate threat was over. As Williams puts it, ‘for them, victory was about opportunity: something new had become thinkable.’ He notes the big changes that resulted in the social landscape of Britain as a consequence and speculates on what the modern-day possibilities for such a sense of opportunity might be, not least given the ongoing environmental urgency of our time. As he too was writing in Eastertide, he was sure to relate this important focus on opportunity to an emphasis on Easter as a new beginning and not as an end – what he calls ‘an event that changes forever the landscape in which we live’. The key question, for him, is then whether we are ready and willing to take part in ‘whatever creative newness lies ahead’ so that we triumph not just over past dangers but also over our own longing for a restored sense of the usual and familiar. We can be liberated from a dependence on past comfort zones and open to new possibilities looking forward not backwards. As this seems to ring true just as much, if not more, this year than last, it seemed only right to mention it again here – and I commend the book in question to any who may be interested in reading it. With prayers and best wishes as we move forward together Revd Dr Andrew Krauss

URGENT NOTICE!

We thought it had gone awfully quiet! Not so... Urgent action required. Bucks County Planning Portal contains yet another application for the Lockharts waste plant on Wing Airfield.

https://publicaccess.buckscc.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?keyVal=QR5A09DS04N00&activeTab=summary

A local resident comments: “Bulk Transfer have put in another planning application. It does not mention lorry numbers but includes a sound barrier wall, netting and a water sprayer. These items are intended to reduce sound from crushers and a screener, the lorries will then be required in vast numbers. We need everyone who objected to these huge lorries recently to object in a similar manner otherwise the lorry numbers could return or even be increased, why else would Bulk Transfer need the wall ”

The Crier & the Wing Aircrew Memorial Fund The memorial site is now finally fixed, and we are working very hard to get everything done for the end of May despite every type and size of hurdle being put in front of us by the pandemic. Above is a marked airfield map, and a picture of the site itself as it sits today. Basically, it’s at the top of the road where the Lancaster Business Park is, and sits right on the perimeter track, by the old hangers and staring straight out at the main runway itself. It’s therefore closer to Cublington than Wing. We have been told that because of the current Govt rules, our unveiling is limited to an absolute maximum of 30 people, so with time running away for planning, we are having to look at operating a virtual unveil, and then look to do a wider community commemoration once we can legally have larger numbers. The interest for a gathering has been huge, including requests from official representatives from the main Commonwealth air forces and re-enactment organisations wanting to bring original vehicles and uniforms to show people. The Aircrew Remembrance Society I am working with are building a virtual Cenotaph that will go on their website at unveiling time, and it will mark all those who flew at RAF Wing and then lost their lives there. I am then working with the Royal New Zealand Air Force, Royal Canadian Air Force and Royal Australian Air Force to identify the aircrew who trained at RAF Wing but then went on to operational squadrons to apply what they learned. The human stories emerging range from almost instant loss of life in action within days of leaving RAF Wing, through to amazing escapades and mischief in the air and great escapes back across the Pyrenees using the French resistance. The airfields history is huge, and keeps revealing more and more as I research it. Regards Nick

The Crier has donated £200 on the village’s behalf to the Wing RAF Aircrew Memorial Fund . Articles regarding the Wing Airfield history will continue to appear in the next few editions of the Cublington Crier. Our thanks to Nick Ellins of the Memorial Fund for providing these. Any questions please ask me and I’ll try and point you in the right direction to the right person. Ed

An American legend in Kemsall Wood by Nick Ellins

Lt. Colonel Immanuel Klette, or ‘Manny’ as he was known, flew more bomber combat missions than any other American pilot, and nearly lost his life just a few hundred feet short of Wing Airfield. Manny arrived in England, aged 27, at a point where American bomber crew had a life expectancy of just fifteen missions and new recruits were immediately required to fly against the toughest targets. On 23rd September 1943, he was piloting a B17 Flying Fortress when it was on a late afternoon mission to Nantes, France.

the situation deteriorated his crew called to make an emergency airfield landing at RAF Wing, put on their landing lights and took up their crash landing positions. As he came in to land, more problems forced him to close down a third engine leaving just one. Just then he lost sight of the ground as he entered low cloud. Flying only on instruments and bleeding heavily from his wound, Manny regained visibility at just 100 feet altitude

While leading his part of the squadron, a flak shell burst below his aircraft and a fragment of metal badly damaged Manny’s left shin bone. The plane was damaged too. The bomb bay doors were stuck open slowing the plane, one of the fuel tanks was holed and fuel was leaking away fast enough that by the time they neared the English coast it was clear that making their home airfield was not possible. It was also now dusk and the light was fading fast. To save fuel, Manny shut down two of the engines. As

and it was clear he would not quite make the runway. With few options left, no speed and no power, Manny saw Kemsall Wood coming up fast, and decided to stall the plane in to the tops of the trees in the hope of a softer crash.

The oak tree he hit is still thought to stand, and it cut through the left wing and brought the plane to a dramatic halt, dropping the fuselage down hard on to the ground and crushing the cockpit area. On top of his badly damaged shin and other cuts and bruising, Manny now had another five fractures to his upper legs and pelvis but still managed to drag himself clear of the aircraft. His navigator, who had stayed in the bomb aiming area of the nose of the plane to help Manny find the Wing airfield runway, was trapped inside and had eight fractures. Amazingly the rest of the crew escaped with minor injuries. Fortunately Kemsall Wood is literally opposite the Wing airfield on the Stewkley to Wing Road, and very quickly RAF personnel got the aircrew to safety and away to RAF Halton Hospital, near Wendover. Fire crews from Linslade, Leighton Buzzard and Aylesbury got to site reportedly within 12 minutes of the crash.

Book Corner

Recommendations from Jane Hill (your local librarian!)

The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie by Muriel Spark This has been on my ‘to read’ list for at least a decade, but I finally found the right time! I got it as an audiobook from the public library, and listened to it while commuting in to school to work in our COVID test centre during the first week back. Its wry, dark humour was exactly what I needed, and the audio (read by the effervescent Miriam Margolyes) was fantastic! Set in the 1930s and published in the 1960s, this story still has a lot to say about education, teaching, charm, and manipulation, whilst also being deeply funny, and absolutely engrossing.

Exciting New Books! Arctic Star by Tom Palmer (7+ years Fiction) Winter 1943. Teenagers Frank, Joseph and Stephen are Royal Navy recruits on their first mission at sea during the Second World War. Their ship is part of an Arctic Convoy sailing to Russia to deliver supplies to the Soviets. The convoys have to navigate treacherous waters, sailing through a narrow channel between the Arctic ice pack and German bases on the Norwegian coast. Will all three boys make it home again?

Felix Ever After by Kacen Callender (Teen Fiction) Felix Love has never been in love - and, yes, he's painfully aware of the irony. What's worse is that, even though he is proud of his identity, Felix also secretly fears that he's one marginalisation too many - Black, queer and transgender - to ever get his own happily-ever-after. When an anonymous student begins sending him transphobic messages - after publicly posting Felix's deadname alongside images of him before he transitioned - Felix comes up with a plan for revenge... A Vertical Art: Oxford Lectures by Simon Armitage (Adult Non-Fiction) Gathers the expansive and spirited public lectures delivered by Simon Armitage during his acclaimed four-year tenure as Oxford University Professor of Poetry. Armitage tries to identify a 'common sense' approach to an artform that can lend itself to grand statements and vacuous gestures, questioning both the facile and obscure ends of the poetry spectrum, examining who poetry is written for and its values and use in contemporary society.

Dear Resident, Over a million people have now received a COVID-19 vaccine dose in our health region of Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire, including 270,000 first doses and 70,000 second doses in Buckinghamshire. We are now into Phase 2 of the national vaccination programme. This means that everyone in the groups most vulnerable to COVID-19 has been offered a vaccine, and the roll out will continue down the age groups until everyone over the age of 18 has been offered an appointment. Anyone aged 42 and over, or who turns 42 before 1 July can now book a vaccine appointment online or by calling 119. If you’re in an older or more vulnerable group and haven’t had your first dose yet, please do come forward to book your appointment. The vaccines approved for use in the UK are safe and effective; if you want to read more about the COVID-19 vaccine go to the NHS website. Vaccine sites and managing your appointment Vaccines are being offered at sites across Buckinghamshire, including via GPs, mass vaccination sites and local pharmacies, meaning there is somewhere locally where residents will be able to get an appointment. Wherever you choose to have your vaccine, if you decide to change the date or location for any reason, you must cancel your original appointment. This helps all the providers and sites manage vaccine supply efficiently, ultimately allowing more people to get vaccinated sooner. The Mass Vaccination Site in Buckinghamshire has moved from Buckinghamshire New University (BNU) to a new home at the indoor bowls centre at the Stoke Mandeville Stadium, Guttmann Road, HP21 9PP. Anyone due their second dose and who may be affected by the move is being contacted by phone or text so they know their appointment will be at the stadium site now. Second doses The NHS has been planning meticulously to make sure people can get their second dose when it is the right time for them to do so. The same vaccine should be used for both doses and to get maximum protection from COVID-19, everyone will need to get a second dose. We are therefore urging people to come forward for their second dose of the vaccine when they are contacted or if they have an appointment booked. Questions about COVID-19 vaccination? A panel of specialists will cover topics at this session like COVID-19 vaccine facts and how the vaccine is being delivered in Buckinghamshire. There will also be chance to ask any questions you’ve got about the vaccine - you can join by clicking here. We also have a dedicated COVID-19 area on the council website which includes a vaccine FAQ page and local testing info which we do update regularly. There is also news on local vaccine sites, weekly figures and other updates.

Roadmap and rules We’re now onto Step Two of the Government’s roadmap out of lockdown and we hope you’re enjoying long-awaited reunions with family and friends. When you do meet up, it’s essential to stay outside and to stick to the rules on numbers – two households or follow the rule of six. For the full detail on what we currently can and cannot do, please refer to the Government’s website. We have seen a small rise in cases in Buckinghamshire in the last week which reminds us all not to let our guard down at this vital stage – we all want to keep progressing through the roadmap and opening things back up again. Please also take advantage of the chance to get tested regularly if you don’t have symptoms of COVID-19. You can go to a local site to get tested or pick up kits to do at home, or have kits sent out to you if it’s hard to get to a test site. Regular testing is one of the ways we can keep on top of the virus and keep getting life back to normal. Check our website for the latest local COVID-19 data.

#WelcomeBackBucks! It’s absolutely fantastic to see our local shops, cafes, restaurants, hairdressers, pubs and other businesses back open again. Please support them by shopping local and seeing what’s on offer in your local area. Check the ‘Shop Local’ page on our website. We’re also offering free parking for the whole of this first month of reopening – meaning parking is free at all our car parks until Tuesday 11 May to make it even easier to visit your local high street. Please remember at all times to adhere to social distancing and wear your face covering indoors. Remember - Hands, Face, Space and Fresh Air – let’s all keep going!

SPOTTED!

PLEASE keep your eyes peeled ... If you spot

anything, and we really do mean anything of interest (silly or serious or even just slightly interesting) in the village - please let us know.

Spotted - many volunteers helping the tidy up at Orchard Ground early in April.

Spotted - Work well underway for the new house next to New Dairy Farm.

Spotted - the

conversions and development at Roses Close finished and on the market!

The carpark has started to be weeded, part of ongoing improvements over the next few months we hope. Many, many thanks to all who took part from the cricket. tennis, allotment clubs and Orchard Ground committee.

Spotted - A novel

way to excercise the dog! Spotted on the Aston Abbotts Road.

Spotted - all the lovely

crafted bunting at the church. A celebration of the community spirit in Cublington. Well done to all concerned.

Spotted - Howes Fish &

Chip van visits the village at approximately 1.30-145 on a Saturday lunchtime. Stops at Ridings Way, Bell Close and possibly Silver Street? Eds Tip - I buy mine and reheat in the oven in the evening!

Spotted - a little Hoglet in a back garden. How many others have been seen in the village?

Spotted - a very cold dog

- or was it the owner? Mutual benefit! Seen in the Unicorn garden.

Spotted - a beautiful pair

of mating Red Kites seen (yes actually seen mating) in the trees and gardens behind Ridings Way - does anyone know where they are nesting?

Spotted - the

Easter bonnet on the postbox - very original!

Spotted - cruel to take a picture I know

- but dad going down in the mud in mound field. Boy did I laugh!

Spotted - beautiful dawn over Cublington...
