1319. Ormolu and champlevé enamel mantel clock, circa 1890, the gilt dial with enamel centre, the bell striking S. Marti movement with lever escapement contained in a globe case decorated with blue and cream enamel and surmounted by a dove and ribbon-tied garlands of flowers, the whole supported by three putti standing on similarly enamelled circular plinth with paw feet and raised on an onyx plinth, 15.75" high £800-1200 1320. Ormolu mounted porphyry revolving chapter ring urn clock, French, circa 1870, the bell striking Vincenti movement with later lever escapement driving two enamel chapter rings contained in the urn with leaf mounted cover and berried finial, applied heraldic shields at the front and rear, the sides with leaf cast handles above bearded masks, truncated fluted column socle hung with garlands of flowers and square plinth inset with foliate mounts, all mounts crisply cast and chased, 14.25" high *This clock was purchased from Sotheby's on 6/3/1997 for £6000 (lot 262) £3000-4000

French exhibition giant gilt-bronze and porcelain mounted striking carriage clock, Japy Freres et Cie, no. 237, circa 1870, the rococo case with pineapple finials to the angles above scroll mounts trailing to pal fronds held by clambering amorini, the top centred by a porcelain cupola with pineapple finial below the foliate cast scroll handle, with cherub mount seated holding book and pen to the fore, with pink porcelain side panels painted en grisaille with cherubs supporting fruiting baskets, within leafy borders, the dial similarly painted with cherubs and with two-tone gilt Roman chapters against individual white reserves, steel moon and crescent hands, on base cast in relief with leaves and ribbons and with scroll cartouche mount to the front inset with a porcelain panel painted with musical trophies, platform lever escapement, strike on bell to the back plate with stamp for Japy Freres et Cie within an Exposition d'Honneur stamp for 1855, 10 2/3" high to top of handle *Provenance: purchased by Mary Louise Campbell wife of the 2nd Earl of Ellesmere, when she accompanied Queen Victoria to one of the Paris Exhibitions Literature: illustrated Derek Roberts (op cit), page 152, figure 9-28
