The ArthurMitchell Collection Arthur sadly passed away in April last year. He was a regular follower of the Specialist Clock Auctions at Gardiner Houlgate, always eager to view the sales in his unassuming way. He will be sadly missed.
Arthur’s interest in clocks emerged back in 1944, while still at school, he was inspired by a family friend who was a watch and clock repairer. His love of clocks remained for the rest of his life and he became an avid collector, primarily of electric clocks. He was a founding member of the Electrical Horology Group in 1970, as a sub group of the Antiquarian Horology Society, where he served as secretary for 25 years until 1995, sharing his expertise amongst fellow electrical horologists.
His vast knowledge was undoubted and is further highlighted with some rare and exceptional pieces from his entire collection coming up for sale, ‘Part I’ was in October 2018, ‘Part II’ in February 2019 and ‘Part III’ in this auction. The lots listed below are from the collection:
