liked to think she had seen it all, although she knew she had not. However, she had seen a lot since she and her brother often gallivanted across the United States with their grandparents. Mimi wrote mystery books for kids and often included her grandchildren, their friends, and members of her Carole Marsh Mysteries fan club in the books. They had been a lot of cool places, always having fun . . . and almost always getting in trouble before it was over with. Of course, Mimi usually put all that in the books, so it was ok. She called it “research.” Grant and Christina called it getting out of school with a neat excuse! On this trip to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, they were going to meet up with their Tarheel cousins Alex and Griffin. Alex (short for Alexis) was almost 13 and Griffin was 10. They were a lot of fun to be around. Christina was envious that they got to live at the beach year-round. They always had tans and windblown hair. They knew how to surf and hang glide and all of that beachy keen stuff. Christina hoped they would teach her some of that this year. She was not used to going to the beach in the winter, though. Why couldn’t Orville and Wilbur have made their famous first flight in the summer, she thought.
