Black Violin is led by classically trained string players Wil B. (viola) and Kev Marcus (violin). Joining them onstage are DJ SPS and drummer Nat Stokes. The band uses their unique blend of classical and hip-hop music, often described as “classical boom,” to overcome stereotypes and encourage people of all ages, races, and economic backgrounds to join together to break down cultural barriers. Their latest studio album, Take the Stairs, dominated Classical, Classical Crossover, Top New Artist, Hip Hop and R&B record charts. NPR praised the album and the band, saying “their music will keep classical music alive for the next generation.” Some of their creative collaborations include Kanye West, Wu-Tang Clan, Wyclef Jean, Lil Wayne, and Alicia Keys.

Scheduled for a concert at the Gallo Center last October, Amy Grant was unfortunately sidelined by injuries sustained in a bicycling accident. Fully recovered, she is performing again and on her way to the Center. We can’t wait!
Conventional wisdom has it that Amy put Contemporary Christian Music on the map, becoming the first CCM artist to have a platinum record, the first to hit No. 1 on the Pop charts, and the first to perform at the Grammy Awards. Since then, Grant has been strumming her way through a 30-plus year adventure as a singer-songwriter, author, television host, and speaker. Early on, Grant’s iconic voice became instantly recognizable in both the Christian and pop worlds.

With a repertoire running the gamut from swing to bebop to the Great American Songbook, Veronica Swift is a young but fully-fledged star on the international jazz scene. Boasting a clear and lilting tone and radiant stage presence, she is also a master of rigorous vocal techniques like vocalese and scat.
Having first gained widespread attention in high-profile collaborations with the likes of Wynton Marsalis and Chris Botti—she was enthusiastically received by Gallo Center patrons at Botti's appearance here in September 2021— Veronica has developed a devoted following. On stage, accompanied by an 8-member band, she will be performing selections from her 2021 album, This Bitter Earth, along with additional jazz standards, rock classics, and more.

BY JOHN STEINBECK
DIRECTED BY MICHAEL LYNCH
SPONSORED BY:
The Gallo Center Repertory Company stages John Steinbeck’s brilliant novellaturned-play about two drifters, George and his friend Lennie, with delusions of living off the “fat of the land.” They have just arrived at a California ranch to work for enough money to buy their own place. Lennie is a man-child, a little boy in the body of a dangerously powerful man. When a ranch boss’ promiscuous wife is found dead with a broken neck, it’s obvious that Lennie, albeit accidentally, has killed her. George, now worried about his own safety, knows exactly where Lennie has gone to hide, and he meets him there. Realizing they can’t run away, George is faced with a moral question: How should he deal with Lennie before the ranchers find him and take matters into their own hands?
FREE EVENT! Ticket holders from all performances are invited to participate in a free one-hour talkback after the Sunday, March 19 performance. You’ll join with local community leaders plus creative team members and actors from Of Mice and Men to discuss the play’s continuing relevance, artistic impact and historical significance.
Of Mice and Men contains mature themes and content, including elements of violence, profanity and racist language from the original story that is considered true to the era in which it is set. Leaders from the local African American community recommended retaining the racist language in the interest of historical accuracy. If you are offended by its inclusion, you may not wish to attend the play.

DIRECTED BY TANIKA BAPTISTE
Ten seasons ago, Sankofa Theatre Company got its start at the Center with The Piano Lesson, a haunting and dramatic work by August Wilson. Now Sankofa is presenting a fresh take on his Pulitzer Prize-winner to celebrate the company’s 10th anniversary as the region’s only African American theater organization.
At the heart of this story stands the ornately carved upright piano that has been gathering dust in the parlor of Berniece Charles’ Pittsburg home. When Boy Willie, her exuberant brother, bursts into her life with his dream of buying the same Mississippi land that their family had worked as slaves, he plans to sell the antique piano for the cash needs to stake his future. Berniece refuses to sell, clinging to the piano as a reminder of the history that is their family legacy.

TICKETS: $39/49/59/69
All four gentlemen of the MozART Group are well educated instrumentalists who graduated from prestigious academies of music in Warsaw and Łódz, Poland, but they decided to play classical music in a humorous way. Touring together worldwide since 1995, the MozART Group created a musical cabaret uniquely their own, where the music, not the words, are the source of joy and laughter. They take a classical composition as canvas, analyze its structure and theme, and then surround it with musical associations and brilliant, outstanding ideas. Listeners are inevitably surprised, amazed, laughing and moved to tears.
