February is Library Lovers Month. Now, you may ask yourself what this has to do with the Gallo Center. Stay with me.

Over the last year, the Center has made strides toward a stronger commitment to establish the Modesto Rotary Music Garden as an accessible space to offer free public arts programming and community engagement activities throughout the year. You may have noticed, for example, an enthusiastic group of Christmas carolers providing festive entertainment before various performances throughout the recent holiday season—all part of a collaboration with the Modesto Symphony Orchestra Chorus!

So to celebrate Library Lovers Month, we are pleased to announce a new partnership with the Stanislaus County Library as they bring their wonderful Story Time program outdoors to the Music Garden beginning February 8 at 10:30 am. We invite you to come and hear new and classic picture books, make music, dance, and participate in other fun activities during this time, every second Wednesday, Feb-May. Story Time events are open to preschoolers aged 3-5 and their caregivers.

We also encourage you to visit the Stanislaus County Library next month to see their display for the Gallo Center Repertory Company’s production of John Steinbeck’s classic Of Mice and Men playing March 17-19. The Center is proud to participate in the

MUSIC

library’s Discover & Go program, wherein members can use their library card to reserve limited free tickets (less facility fee) to Gallo Center Repertory Company productions through the Discover & Go online portal.

And this is just the beginning! From community drum circles, to pet adoption events, to outdoor fitness programming, you can expect to see a lot more life in front of the Center in the coming months, and we invite you to check it out! All upcoming free community events will be listed on our website. Use the QR code below to find out more.

Did you know you can also reserve the Music Garden for a special event? Please contact Kara Chiesa at kchiesa@galloarts.org for more information!

WORKING MAN IN SHOW BUSINESS

RETURNS

Acclaimed TV late night show host, admired stand-up comedian, best-selling children’s book author, much-in-demand corporate speaker, TV and movie voice-over artist, pioneering car builder and mechanic, and philanthropist…Jay Leno is widely characterized as “the hardest working man in show business.” His late night television ratings domination included two decades as the host of the #1-rated The Tonight Show with Jay Leno after the first two years Jay Leno never lost a single ratings year in which he served as host. Jay opened the 2015/16 season at the Center. His two shows sold out then, and these two are already on their way.

The eclectic, acoustic-oriented sounds of Pink Martini have never been easy to categorize, but that hasn’t prevented the band from acquiring a loyal, enthusiastic cult following. The musical group was formed in 1994 by pianist Thomas Lauderdale in Portland, Oregon. Describing itself as a “little orchestra,” its music crosses genres such as classical, Latin, jazz and classic pop. The group’s debut album, Sympathique, was released in 1997 and quickly became an international phenomenon. Pink Martini has also found success in film appearances (Nurse Betty, Mr. and Mrs. Smith) and on television (The Sopranos, West Wing)

Beautiful simply does not describe the incomparable force known to the world as Patti LaBelle. Known as the “godmother of soul,” this Grammy winner and legendary hit-maker has given the world many memorable songs over her career of 60+ years, including “Lady Marmalade,” “When You Talk About Love,” “New Attitude,” “If Only You Knew,” and “On My Own.” Her name has become synonymous with grace, style, elegance and class. Belting out classic rhythm and blues renditions, pop standards and spiritual sonnets have created the unique platform of versatility she is known and revered for. Thrilled simply does not describe how we feel to welcome Miss LaBelle for her debut performance at the Gallo Center.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 2023, 7:30 PM TICKETS: $29/39/49/59

Girls Night: The Musical has been thrilling audiences since its sensational Off-Broadway debut. This touching and hilarious tell-it-like-it-is musical takes audiences on a journey into the lives of a group of five female friends. It is bursting with energy and packed with hits including “Lady Marmalade,” “It’s Raining Men,” “Man I Feel Like a Woman,” and “I Will Survive.” Audience members can’t help but laugh, cry and sing and dance in the aisles! Bring your girlfriends. Have a glass of wine. Or two.

The focus of this masterclass is rap and spoken word. Students will learn about Hitting New Heights performers Mandy Gonzalez and Javier Muñoz, their history with Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning artist Lin Manuel Miranda, and their experiences as understudies on Broadway. Students will get to attend Hitting New Heights with a special discounted ticket, and in the masterclass will craft, write, and perform their own raps on topics that matter to them! Recommended for grades 7+. MASTERCLASS: FEBRUARY 27, 2023, 5 – 6:30 PM
