GIANNI PETTENA Nato a Bolzano nel 1940, si laurea all’Università di Firenze dove è ora professore di storia dell’architettura contemporanea. Tra i fondatori del radicale fiorentino, conduceva la sua sperimentazione in modo sia operativo/progettuale che teorico. Il suo primo libro L’anarchitetto (1972) può essere considerato opera “radicale” quanto gli interventi sull’ambiente condotti negli Stati Uniti o le performances compiute con amici artisti anche in occasione di Triennali o Biennali.

Caratteristica costante del suo operare era l’interesse per quanto si andava registrando nell’ambito delle altre arti e la derivazione da queste di linguaggi critico-espressivi, in particolare durante i numerosi soggiorni negli USA all’inizio degli anni Settanta.

Pettena, con la sua opera di docente e di critico, ha notevolmente contribuito a mantenere vitali l’interesse e il dibattito sul periodo radicale.

Born in Bolzano in 1940, he graduated from the University of Florence where he is now professor of history of contemporary architetture. Among the founders of Florentine radicalism, he conducted his experimentation in both operative/projectual and theoretical ways. His first book “L’anarchitetto” (“The An-architect”) (1972) can be considered a “radical” work as much as his interventions on the environment conducted in the United States, and the performances given with artist friends including those at the Milan Triennial and Venice Biennial. A constant characteristic of his work has been his interest in taking note of the happenings of other arts and the derivation from these arts of critical and expressive languages, particularly during his numerous stays in the U.S.A. at the beginning of the 1970’s. Pettena, with his work as professor and critic, has contributed noticeably to mantaining vital both the interest in and the debate on the radical period.
