n i C n Ci In Italy, the toast “Cin Cin” is of Chinese origin and made its way into Italian usage in the 18th century. The Chinese phrase “ch’ ing ch’ ing” means, “your welcome”, but was transformed into Cin Cin by European merchants and sailors who traded with China during the Victorian period. It became a cordial and playful greeting, especially to Italians, and took root in the Italian language due to the onomatopoeic sound of the word, similar to the sound of two glasses touching during a toast.

! I A P M KA Drinkin plays an important role in Japanese society. Drinking at parties, typically held at restaurants and izakaua, are common activity that are used to strengthen both social and business ties. At the beginning of a meal or drinking party you should not start drinking until everybody at the table is served and the glasses are raised for a toast, which is usually “kampai”.
