2016 ArtsWest Auction Catalog

Page 1

Welcome to our 2016 Annual Gala & Auction: Verge. I’ve always been obsessed with horizons. Growing up spending summers on the Jersey shore teaches you that there’s nothing more beautiful and full of possibility than the line where sea meets sky. It’s full of perfection in its form, and mystery in its content. “What lies beyond that horizon?” is the question that has driven mankind’s voyages through the millennia. When we meet characters in plays, they are almost always on the verge. On the verge of discovery, revelation, realization. On the verge of madness – on the verge of euphoria. They begin a journey which is largely uncharted, and by watching, we take it with them. One of my favorite poets, John O’Donohue, often writes about thresholds. The thresholds of our lives are what art probes and investigates. Art allows us to live in those thresholds for awhile, and hopefully, to learn from them. Tonight we celebrate being on the verge. We’ve laid foundations, we’ve built a community, we’ve begun creating a body of work and making decisions about what we stand for as theater makers. We’ve begun investigating edges and seeing what happens when we dare to journey beyond. Thank you for being with us tonight, and joining us as we forge a path into places unknown. We remain, as always, honored by your companionship and your support.

Get ready to dash your way to our dessert table & grab one of the fabulous desserts donated by area restaurants, bakeries and friends of ArtsWest. You’ll return to your table triumphantly bearing a dozen cupcakes, jumbleberry pie or a chocolate raspberry cheesecake (to name just a few).

HOW IT WORKS: 1. You will find a Dessert Dash card on your table. 2. Write your bid number on the card, along with the amount you wish to donate. 3. We will collect these cards during the live auction. 4. We’ll do some quick tabulating, and then the auctioneer will call out the table with the highest collective total. 5. That table will send a runner to choose a sweet treat for the whole table. We’ll keep calling out table numbers in descending order based on the total bid amount, so bid high and get your runner ready to snatch up a dessert!

NEW THIS YEAR: ALMOST LIVE! Don’t forget to visit our “Almost LIVE” table, where the crèmede-la-crème of our silent auction now resides. Bidding is open later than our silent tables, but it will end before the live auction starts. Don’t miss out on these fantastic experiences and items!

NEW THIS YEAR: PRODUCTION DONATIONS Throughout tonight’s venue, you may notice production photos from our past 2015-16 Mainstage Season. These are a great way to make a direct donation to ArtsWest in support of theater production. Simply write in your bid number next to a donation amount, and your generous donation will directly impact ArtsWest’s work. The best part? You can’t be “outbid” since these are direct donation write-ins!

ARTSWEST GALLERY ART Bid on beautiful original art pieces created by artists who have been featured or will be featured in ArtsWest’s gallery. Half of the minimum bid will support these artists so they can continue producing compelling works of art.

END OF EVENING GRAB BAGS Outbid on an item, or didn’t quite see something that called out to you? At the end of the evening, you will have a chance to raise your paddle and win your pick of our Grab Bags. Your prize may be left to chance, but your support of ArtsWest will not be. This is an amazing way to “pay-what-you-can” in support of our compelling, provocative works. GRAB BAG ITEMS GENEROUSLY PROVIDED BY: Red Baloon Company
