Q. Lynda, this is a selection of special songs. What caused you to want to create this album at this time? A. “So many people are hurting today and I believe more-so than ever. The old classics are life-giving! They are full of hope, and the lyrics still hold true to the promises of God; and they are still relevant, even today.” Q. “God on the Mountain” continues to be a signature song for you. How did you first come to hear this song, and what made you decide to record it initially?

A. “Bill Gaither sent me this song in 1998! I wasn’t at all interested in recording it initially because I wasn’t big on the country sound of the song, but my husband asked me to really listen to the lyrics and I did! I had been in a deep valley of grief and depression at the time I got the song from Bill. So I recorded it, and I’ve never looked back.” Q. I would imagine that singing such classic selections brings back childhood memories for you as you grew up in a singing family. Can you tell us about a special memory that comes to mind surrounding one of these songs? A. “’Walking Up the King’s Highway’ is one of the songs the choirs used to sing in the black church, and they still do in a lot of them. I loved seeing choir members in their beautiful robes, marching in on a Sunday morning or a special concert event to that song! Until you’ve seen a black gospel choir marching on a lively song like ‘Walking Up the King’s Highway,’ I’m not sure you’ve really been to ‘church’ (smile)!” Q. You have been through many different seasons of life. Is there a particular song on this collection that has “seen you through” the various seasons of life? A.“It would have to be the song that I wrote, ‘Keep on Pressing On.’ There have been times that I’ve felt like giving up because I was a bit overwhelmed with life and all of its trouble, trials and times of testing. But by the grace of God and by the strength and power of the Holy Spirit, I’ve been able to push through and press on, no matter what the enemy has tried to throw my way! If God delivered me before, He can do it again, so I press!”

REWIND the Classics This Is My Story Lynda Randle “When Bill first asked me to join HOMECOMING, I was unaware that the song he asks you to sing could change based on how everything is flowing. I was so nervous. He never called my name and I was actually relieved. He then called me to my next taping. This time I decided to just go with the flow and not get so nervous! Three days of taping were ending. As we left for lunch I saw a piece of paper on the floor. I was one of the artists who would be singing soon! I nearly passed out and thought, ‘Oh, what am I going to sing?’ I was going with the flow with no plan! I saw Geron Davis and frantically asked him if he knew ‘One Day Jesus.’ He had never heard it, but it didn’t take long for him to play a few notes as I sang the chorus to him. “That afternoon Bill called me up to sing! It was like an ’out-of-body’ experience! I heard the band playing the intro to ‘One Day Jesus.’ Geron had charted a song for them that he hadn’t even heard in its entirety. This frightened kid felt that ‘special’ anointing only God can give, and I began to sing to the top of my lungs! It seemed like Bill jumped a couple feet off the floor. He had never heard that song, and he loved it! He had me sing it for years in concert. This monumental, pivotal, lifechanging moment greatly impacted my music ministry!”
