CHAPTER 3 MY ARCHITECTURAL SPACE

‘Success is a journey, not a destination. The doing is often more important than the outcome.‘ Arthur Ashe

Arthur Ash‘s words are very important for my architectural space. But before this course I have never thougt about it. To understand my place in architecture and the space I created during many years it is necessary to know that I started with practice. During about 20 years I was able to transform (togehter with my husband!) a very old farmhouse with it‘s outbuildings, yard and garden to a comfortable and extraordinary place to live. During this time theory never mattered to me. The background for the transformation was the wish to respect „the feelings“ of this old house, to make all changes in an adequate way and the tools for this have been our eyes and our empathy.

Nature build this wonderful palace. It looks like a dome supported by several columns . I found this special feature in the Sandstone formations in Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany.

The last six month with ARCHITECTURE 1o1 I have leard so much about the architectural way to look at things. I learned that nature is a great architect. I can understand now much better the context between light and shaddow, simplicity and clarity. I see that in my archetectural practice I did many things in the right way without knowing why. That makes me happy. I enjoy having a better background knowledge now. But I also know that there is so much more to learn. It was always very important to follow the other students in their work. To see how they solve problems, how they work with the different APPs, to compare and to find similar or totally different answers.

So at the end let me say thank you to the guides who led me on this facinating way through Architecture 101, Giulia Camedda, Anne Sopie Gauvin and Stefano Mirti. And thank you very much to „Lola“ who was always patient, to the whole team, to Design1o1Community and to all the other students who gave me a lot of inspiration with their works..and our communication on Instagram.………………………………………………………………………………….
