Parent & Family Schedule of Events  Saturday, August 16, 2014 RESIDENTIAL MOVE-IN: FRIDAY, AUGUST 15, 2014 AT 1 PM

Friday, August 15, 2014 9:00 am Campus Offices Open [Various Locations] 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Campus Offices will be open to assist students and their families during normal business hours. 1:00 pm Residential Student Move-In [Student Assigned Residence Halls] 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm Your student will pick up his/her room key, meet the Resident Advisor (RA), meet his/her roommate(s), and move in to his/her room. Campus community members will be assisting you and your student with move-in. (Student must be present.) 5:00 pm Shopping in Sugar House 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm Head to Shopko or Bed, Bath, & Beyond to pick up those things that your student forgot to pack or did not bring. Your student will be free during this time to meet up with you. Shuttles will be leaving from the Festival Lost (between Jewett & Foster Hall) beginning at 3 p.m. every 30 minutes. Dinner with Family [Off Campus or in the Shaw Student Center] 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm Take your student out to dinner in the Sugar House Community. Our community partners have provided many discounts for our new students and their families. If you choose to eat in the Shaw Dining Hall, your student’s meal plan is activated for their use with our food service provider, Bon Appetit. 8:00 pm Residential Student Floor Meetings (MANDATORY for Student) [Your Residential Floor] 8:00 pm to 9:30 pm Meet your Resident Advisor (RA) and others on your floor. Learn what it means to be a member of the Residential Community and the guidelines for campus living. This is for the student only to attend.

Saturday, August 16, 2014 9:00 am Orientation Check-In [Richer Commons] 9:00 am to 2:00 pm You and your student will check in with the GO Leaders at the Orientation check-in table in the Richer Commons. During this time you will receive all your parent/family materials for the day. The students must be present to pick up their items. Brunch [Richer Commons] 9:00 am to Noon You are invited to have brunch and mingle with other students, parents, and staff. Scrambled Eggs  Sausage Links  Home Fried Potatoes  French Toast w/Syrup  Fruit Mini Danishes, Muffins, Scones  Reg. & Decaf Coffee  Tea  Water Griffin Expo [Payne Gymnasium] 9:00 am to Noon Campus offices and organizations will be showcased in the Payne Gymnasium so you can get to know the Westminster community.

Saturday, August 16, 2014 9:00 am Campus Offices Open [Various Locations) 9:00 am to 3:00 pm The following campus offices will be open to assist students and their families until 3 pm. Some offices will be open later on Saturday. Please see below for those office hours Cashier, Financial Aid, Student Account Services [Bamberger Hall] You and your student will have an opportunity to pay tuition, talk with Student Account Services and talk with Financial Aid staff. (Student must be present and have a photo ID.) START Center [Carleson Hall] You and your student will have an opportunity to ask questions about his/her class schedule, add/drop classes. (Student must be present.) Mail Room [Walker Hall] Open until Noon The mail room will be open for residential students to pick up any packages that were mailed ahead of time. (Student must be present and have a photo ID.) Eccles Health, Wellness, and Athletic Center Open until 2 pm Come take a tour of the Eccles Health, Wellness & Athletic Center. Your student can get a picture taken and receive a Westminster College ID card. A Westminster Student ID card is required for the residential meal plans, access to Eccles HWAC, and renting library materials. Bookstore [Shaw Student Center] The bookstore will be open to purchase books for the semester or pick-up pre-ordered books. You may also choose to purchase some Westminster College merchandise. Computer & Library Services [Giovale Library] Open until 5 pm Take a tour of Giovale Library. Your student’s computer/e-mail account questions can be addressed in the computer lab which is located on the lower level of the library. (Student must be present when asking about computer/email account. Additionally your student will need to bring his/her laptop to be certified for the wireless network.) 10:00 am First in Family to Attend College Student & Parent Meeting [Eccles Health, Wellness, and Athletic Center, Special Events Room] 10:00 am to 11:00 am This session will cover strategies and resources to successfully help students and parents navigate Westminster’s academic and social environment.

Saturday, August 16, 2014 10:00 am Legacy Photo [West Side of Converse Hall] 10 :00 am to 10:15 am If you have attended Westminster College, come take a picture with your student and other legacy families at 10 am on the west side of Converse Hall. 11:00 am Residential Parent Meeting (Parents Only) [Emma Eccles Jones Conservatory, Gore Concert Hall] 11:00 am to 12:30 pm You will have an opportunity to talk with our Residence Life and Student Life staff about life on campus at Westminster College, and mingle with other parents of residential students. Commuter Parent Meeting (Parents Only) [Emma Eccles Jones Conservatory, Courage Theater] 11:00 am to 12:00 pm You will have an opportunity to talk with our Student Development and Student Life staff and current commuter students about what your student may experience as a commuter. You will also have time to mingle with other parents of commuter students. 12:30 pm Parent Information Sessions (Parents Only) – (Your student will be busy in their own sessions.) [Eccles Jones Health, Wellness & Athletic Center - 3rd Floor] 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm Each of the following sessions will be offered three times:   

“Making the Transition: It’s About Us Too!” [Health, Wellness, Athletic Center (HWAC) - Room 351] The focus of the past two days has been about how to help your son or daughter make the transition to college. In this session, Susan Heath, Assistant Provost for Student Retention & Engagement, and Dana Tumpowsky, Director of Parent Fund & Family Programs, will talk about ways to help you make and enjoy the transition as well. In addition to working in this area professionally, both Susan and Dana are parents of current college students or recent graduates. Bring any questions or concerns that haven’t been addressed yet this weekend. (Continued on next page)

Saturday, August 16, 2014 “Student Involvement” [Health, Wellness, Athletic Center - Room 352] Did you know that students that get involved in activities on campus have higher GPAs, better retention rates, and higher school satisfaction according to research? Come visit with Mark Ferne, Dean of Students and Trisha Teig, Assistant Dean of Students, to discuss how to encourage your son or daughter to get involved and learn more about the many opportunities that await him or her here at Westminster! “Academics at Westminster” [Health, Wellness, Athletic Center (HWAC) - Room 353] Deb Vickery, Director of the START Center, and Barbara Smith, Director of Learning Communities and First Year Programs, will present an overview of what is required of students to complete a degree, answer questions about majors and explain the importance of the Liberal Education core requirements. They will also talk about the academic and career resources available to students. “Beyond Westminster: jobs, internships, grad school, and career planning" [Health, Wellness, Athletic Center (HWAC) – Computer Lab] Proactive career planning begins during the first year of college. How will your son or daughter build skills, experience, and professional goals while at Westminster? What resources are available to assist your student in preparation for internships, jobs, or graduate school? Mike Caldwell from the Career Resource Center will discuss resources and opportunities that prepare students for the transition to careers beyond Westminster. The following sessions will be offered only once at the times listed: 12:30 pm “Diversity and Diverse Student Success” [Health, Wellness, Athletic Center (HWAC) – Room 354] Luciano Marzulli, Director, Diversity Student Affairs and Services, will discuss diversity programs and opportunities at Westminster College aimed at supporting historically underrepresented students of color and LGBTQ students. Parents will also have a chance to discuss strategies for supporting their diverse students’ college experiences 1:30 pm “Study Abroad 101” [Health, Wellness, Athletic Center (HWAC) – Room 354] Westminster College students can study abroad almost anywhere in the world. Sara Demko, Assistant Provost of Student International Services will provide information on Westminster’s study abroad opportunities including May Term Study Experiences, semester and academic year options. She will also provide an overview of the financial aspects of study abroad.

[Emma Eccles Jones Conservatory & Jewett Center, Tanner Atrium] 3:30 pm to 4:45 pm Join us for some light refreshments prior to dinner. You will have an opportunity to mingle with other parents, meet the Deans and numerous faculty from each school at the College. 5:00 pm Convocation [Eccles Health, Wellness & Athletic Center - Use West entrance for Behnken Field House] 5:00 pm to 6:15 pm Please come and join Westminster College in inaugurating the 2014-2015 school year and welcoming the incoming freshman class. 6:15 pm Dinner [Richer Commons] 6:15 pm to 7:15 pm You are invited to have dinner with Westminster College President Brian Levin-Stankevich, faculty, staff and students.
