Passing the Falcon Spirit Year after year, Fort Worth Country Day admissions staff develops unique ways to showcase what the FWCD community has to offer its prospective families. In the fall of 2009 the Catch the Spirit, Pass It On red baton campaign began. The FWCD community was asked to take batons containing admissions dates and contact information and pass them to future Falcon Families. Over 110 FWCD families were credited as being responsible for encouraging 85 applications. Current FWCD families who were named by new families that enrolled this fall were entered in drawings conducted at each of the three divisions’ Parents Night to receive a Catch the Spirit $500 tuition credit. The winning families were Dr. and Mrs. Stephen D. Maberry ’84 who encouraged Mr. and Mrs. Dax Symonds to enroll their son and daughter, Turner ’18 and Taylor ’19; Mr. and Mrs. Clint Lax who encouraged Mr. and Mrs. Michael N. Johnston to enroll their daughter, Isabelle ’23; and Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Madrid who encouraged Mr. and Mrs. Joseph D. Fowler to enroll their daughter, Hannah ’14. In addition to families referring applicants, our feeder programs are also key players in encouraging new families to consider FWCD. “Attracting our preschool teachers and directors to our campus to meet our fabulous faculty called for a new plan of action,” Barbara Jiongo, director of Admissions, said. On September 1, FWCD held its first annual Make It and Take It Preschool Teachers Open House. This was an opportunity for preschool teachers and directors to create great lesson plans and prototypes based on Frank Asche’s book, Popcorn. “It is extremely important for us to work closely with preschools because these are our greatest source for potential young families,” Jiongo said. fall/WINTER 2010

The Make It and Take It Open House, planned by Kindergarten teachers Meg Rubin and Lucy Biggs, left preschool teachers with only one question at the end of the workshop: “When can we come back and do this next year?” The Admissions team is working hard coming up with new plans for reaching Future Falcon Families. How many Future Falcon Families do you know? Batons and information are available in the Schwartz Administration Building. Pick up one and take your Falcon Spirit and “Pass It On.”
