BOOTH 16017 In 2020, the big news early in the year—before that other big news—was that Crestron was going to exhibit at that year’s CEDIA Expo, marking the company’s first appearance since 2015. Of course, the in-person reunion with the industry’s largest tradeshow was delayed when Covid-19 took the show virtual. The big comeback would have to wait until 2021.
Not so fast. The pandemic did not give up easily, waylaying Crestron’s return for another year. But the day integrators have been looking forward to has finally arrived at the 2022 CEDIA Expo, and John Clancy, EVP of residential for Crestron, could not be happier.
“My first year at Crestron was our first year not exhibiting at CEDIA Expo,” says Clancy. “It was a goal of mine to get us back into that show. Of course, we never left the community or our dealer base, but now we are back, and we have a lot of news for our dealers and for those who aren’t already Crestron dealers.”
The large, can’t-miss booth is well stocked with the company’s latest and greatest, with an emphasis on game-changing technologies such as Crestron Home and the DM NAX audio distribution plat form. “Everything we show off in the booth has a Crestron Home connection to it,” says Clancy. “We are also talking about how DM NVX and DM NAX work amazingly well together—like no other system out there—and how Crestron Home and the features we continue to add can support our dealers in both in the MDU and hospitality spaces.”
In addition to dealers getting valuable hands-on time with Creston’s products, the company is also using the event to provide training. “We have 10
amazing training sessions, including a great AV-overIP training class that talks about not only our solu tions, but others as well,” says Clancy. “It’s about the linkage between DM NVX and DM NAX streaming audio and video over the network and having the flexibility of placing high-resolution content where you need it at lower resolutions elsewhere without sacrificing the quality of the source content.”
CEDIA Expo also provides many great face-to-face interactions with dealers, giving Crestron and other exhibitors insights into their needs and concerns. No doubt topping the list of this year’s concerns will be the ongoing worldwide supply-chain issues.
“Our biggest issue is more related to demand than it is supply,” says Clancy. “We are starting to see a big uptick in what we’re shipping these days, so that’s refreshing, and our shipments each day get bigger and bigger. When it comes to placing orders, there’s no risk on the dealer side—they can place the order and cancel at any time. We don’t take payment until the product is ready to ship. It’s just making sure that they’re planning ahead and getting in the queue.”
(From left) Brad Hintze, Dan Feldstein, and John Clancy are happy to bring Crestron back to CEDIA Expo. The Innovation Hub (with a dedicated stage!) features emerging brands and presentations over the course of three days. BOOTH 16069 Origin Acoustics is showing how the company has evolved since its inception in 2014. While the brand’s heritage dates back to the first architectural speaker manufacturer, the Origin brand has only been around for eight years and is now one of the top brands used by today’s custom installers.
As the industry has seen many companies get acquired by larger brands, Origin has increased its offerings by putting together a curated approach, which includes building stra tegic partnerships with some of the world’s biggest brands and category leaders. Announced back in 2017, the first brand partnership was with Bang & Olufsen, a recognized world leader in high-design, high-performance audio for nearly 100 years, with worldwide sales approach ing $1 billion dollars. This partnership started with the development of a co-branded line of architectural speakers designed and built by Origin Acoustics, which was then sold by both Origin and Bang & Olufsen worldwide through each company’s respective sales channels.
Just prior to CEDIA Expo 2022, Origin Acoustics announced how its relationship with Bang & Olufsen has evolved by becoming the North American Brand Manager and Master Distribu

BOOTH 14055 Lighting fixtures appear to be on the cusp of having a moment in the custom integration channel. Fixtures are the next logical step in the lighting path that dealers have been following, helped along by manufacturers like DMF Lighting, which have been in the lighting biz for quite some time yet were quick to embrace CI market opportunities.
“CI is the fastest growing seg ment of our overall business,” says Mike Libman, national sales direc tor, residential systems, DMF Lighting. “We were one of the early fixture companies to lean into the space, partnering with HTSA nearly five years ago and then partnering with ProSource a little later. And our team is growing—we pulled out of Lightfair this year, which, as a lighting manufacturer, is typically our biggest event—and we allocated those dollars towards CEDIA Expo. That should give some insight as to how we’re viewing the space—we are very bull ish on it, and we continue it to invest in people and in product for the CI channel. We view it as a critical
part of our future as a company.”
That is a strong statement com ing from a company that has been around for 35 years, primarily work ing with builders. “We understand working with each of the various stakeholders, and builders are obvi ously a huge part of that,” adds Libman. “We understand what their buying criteria is and we understand their pain points. A big reason why we got into the CI space is because integrators are establishing longterm relationships with their trade partners and with their clients. There are technology integration and compatibility issues that, if you’re not thinking about those things on the front end, can lead to a lot of pain on the job site. And we feel that integrators are well equipped to be able to navigate those pieces.”
Reaching CI dealers is important enough to DMF Lighting that the company exhibited at last year’s greatly reduced CEDIA Expo, showing off its modular lighting fixtures. This year’s Expo display will feature more new products—including a tunable lighting solution for its DID line and the new iX

Power View+ uses Smart Power Supplies that connect to the home network via Eth ernet and leverage a hardwired communication protocol for two-way, accurate communication to the shades.
Series 2-inch fixtures—as well as a full team on hand to answer any questions dealers may have about working with the company.
“We want to support the channel and grow our dealer base, but we want to do that in a healthy way,” says Libman. “We want to make sure we’re partnering with the right dealers. With the products, we want a successful launch by connecting with our existing dealer base and rep network and make sure they understand not only the shiny new thing, but also our thinking process behind the new gear and the business case they can be successful with. We thought about that extensively in designing these new products.”
To help clarify the company’s vision and what lighting fixtures can mean for a CI business, Libman will speak on a panel today at 3:30 p.m. discuss ing “The Business of Selling Lighting and Lighting Systems.” He says the panel will cover the fixture industry as a whole as it relates to the dealer base.
“When we started in this space, a lot of the con versations were about ‘why lighting’ and now it’s far more about ‘how’ and has moved beyond the prod uct itself,” he explains. “My team is focused on how we can get people to be successful in the category as a whole and in the business case for lighting in general. The benefits of our product become apparent once you have the basic framework of how to navigate a lighting project.”

The Airgloss ProSense air quality monitoring system offered by VOC Instrumentation features cutting-edge sensing technology developed in 2011 for NASA, to monitor the health and safety of the astronauts on the ISS, and later adapted for use on Earth.
Specifically designed for indoor environmental monitoring, it provides real time detection and identification of a wide range of indoor airborne pollutants, and potentially dangerous chemicals, using artificial intelligence algorithms and pattern recognition.
All information and notifications is continuously sent via the cloud to a phone app or tablet using its own dashboard. It can also be integrated into a customer’s API.

BOOTH 14041 LG Electronics USA has formed a new national network of third-party sales representatives to bring the magic of the direct-view LED (DVLED) “Extreme Home Cinema” displays to resellers and luxury homeowners across the United States. The territories of the 13 rep firms cover the majority of the country.
Featured in LG’s booth, the LG DVLED Extreme Home Cinema is the company’s first direct-view light-emitting diode display series designed specifically for high-end residential installations, providing homeowners with impressive viewing angles and a very high color gamut even in rooms with lots of windows and high ambient light. Using 2-33 million individual diodes (depending on resolution), the new LG DVLED Extreme Home Cinema series includes 16:9 displays that range from 81 inches to 325 inches measured diagonally.

tor. Origin is now responsible for expanding the Bang & Olufsen CTI (Custom Technology Installers) pro gram by bringing on new resellers to grow the Bang & Olufsen presence in the United States. Together, they will be making a special new product announcement at CEDIA, which you can learn more about by visiting either of their booths.
Over the past eight years, Origin has continued its curation approach by partnering with companies such as Audio Control, Artnovion, Amina Sound, Crestron and, most recently, Austere and Flush Mount. In addition, they acquired Ambisonic, a high-performance line of outdoor and commercial speakers from Jeffrey James Coombs, best known as the founder of James Audio. Each partnership has its own special value, but what they all have in com mon is a focus on performance and design, as well as being some of the industry’s finest brands.

The latest product releases showcasing this design philosophy are with their Minimal Opening System line of products, which provides outstanding sound from a 4-inch opening that blends in with today’s high-design lighting fixtures. Other products include the Bollard outdoor speakers and new line of sound bars, with their patented InstaWidth design to match most TVs on the market. Every year, hundreds of customers experience the full line of Origin Acous tics products, and those of its partners, on display at the Las Vegas Design Center, which also includes an Experience and Training Center for Bang & Olufsen, and later this year will feature a Crestron Experience Center as well.

While Origin may evolve into a larger and more design-centric organization, it still stays true to its authenticity, focusing on customer experience and building relationships that transcend just a transac tion. Through additional strategic partnerships and acquisitions, they feel they will continue to be rec ognized as one of the most influential brands in the industry, with hopes of continuing to provide their loyal customers with the best solutions and greatest support.
