Transista Groove FROM PROGRESSIVE ROCK TO JAZZ AND BLUES, TRANSISTA GROOVE ARE BUSTING UP STEREOTYPES!

THIS IS A STORY ABOUT HOW TWO BEAUTIFUL HUMANS FOUND EACH OTHER, AND THROUGH THEIR SHARED LIVED EXPERIENCES AS TRANSWOMEN AND MUTUAL LOVE OF MUSIC, THEY FOUND A WAY TO SHARE THEIR VOICE WITH THE WORLD.

On a day that started like most others, Szusza received a text message saying, “I just saw a trans-women busking on the South Coast. She was amazing; I think you should meet her”.

That seemingly random event resulted in Szusza Ihasz and Glenda Harvey creating the band we now know as ‘Transista Groove’.

“IT’S NEVER TOO LATE TO BECOME WHO YOU ARE.”

SZUSZA IHASZ

Initially, Glenda and Szusza had set out to create an all-trans band, but one fateful weekend at the Canberra Blues Society Jam, a talented musician, David Twyman, asked if he could join them on stage.

The result was three experienced musicians coming together to fuse their mutual love of elements of rock, prog, jazz, blues, grunge and funk to create their own unique sound.

Initially starting as a cover rock/pub band, COVID gave Transista Groove the time and space to write and record their first album, Fantasy to Reality, produced by David Pendragon from Pendragon Studios in Canberra.

The launch party for the album was held at Canberra’s subterranean music venue, The Basement. The night sealed the band’s friendship and has become one of their most treasured memories, especially for Szusza, who’s trans-daughter Ashley joined them on stage for three tracks — including “Gladden Our Heart”, a song the band had written together about a trans-girl from Hungary, Szuszas’ country of origin.

Transista Groove has now finished their second album, titled Transmission Transition. Keep your eyes peeled, as both albums are set to hit streaming services in the next couple of months. Looking forward, Transista Groove is super excited to be part of the line-up performing on the Enlighten Illuminations Festival Hub Main Stage on Saturday 11 March from 6.00pm, showcasing material from their second album. There will also be a swag of other fantastic live music acts — it’s going to be an exciting weekend with plenty of ear candy.

“TRANSISTA GROOVE ARE ONE OF CANBERRA’S BEST… YEARS OF COLLECTIVE EXPERIENCE, SLAMMING OUT RIFF DRIVEN SONGS ABOUT SUBJECTS THAT ARE IMPORTANT TODAY.” DAVID
