The main is rich and mouthwatering; the slow cooked ox cheek just falls apart as the knife cuts through. It is served with crispy tongue and smoked potato mash which melts in the mouth. There is hardly room for the Blackberry and Apple dessert which is zingy and fires off the taste buds once more. There are staples on the menu which Steve is renowned for that stay but there is plenty of variety in the dishes and the menu changes dependent upon the freshest of locally sourced produce available and what’s in season. Along with great food is the warmth of the hosts and owners Steve and Claire Love. Food and wine are at the very heart of their being and this oozes through their enthusiasm. Claire pairs her husband’s dishes with handpicked wines. Her knowledge is outstanding and she’ll happily offer her recommendations and advice to accompany the food. Love’s is one of the restaurants that is helping to turn Birmingham in to a hot culinary destination and put the city on the map for foodie experimentalists and explorers and long may it do so.
